Brian May is Astro phycisist and my all time favorite guitarist (personal reasons), but when it comes to this kind of self reflection and understanding the human mind, and apply it to not only guitar playing but seeing the underlying mechanisms and apply them to your life, Steve Vai is very, very lonely at the top.

Hes a seeker and he is on his journey- he USED to be into esoteric and now hes not so much- like all of us he is thinking and sharing what he believes truth is. Hes faithful to his wife, he left ego behind, he honors his existence and other peoples perspectives. I think we all grow and change and admit that we are all “in process”. God bless him...

Steve Vai has a similar outlook to my own. There is no chance that everything we observe, even here on Earth, is the result of random chance. Just a blade of grass is incredible enough, insects, animals, human-beings that are fully aware and creating things out of nothing but our creativity and the resources around us that could never have existed.... A car, or a computer... the fact that we have created these are just incredible - and then music, film, painted art etc... What incredible beings we are, and the spark of divinity has allowed us to become gods ourselves in this reality.

Some logical holes: 1. What is your objective basis for morality? It must come from a transcendent being outside of humanity so its not based on human opinion. 2. If the universe only cares that I feel joy when I do stuff, and feel joy waging war and killing people, won't the universe appreciate and respect that? 3. If you cant give what you dont have, if this is the hard line principle, how would the big bang work. How can you get the everything from nothing? That is the ultimate in giving what you dont have. 4. You CAN give love if you dont have it.
@johngrunwell6101
@johngrunwell6101 7 лет назад
Vai is definitely projecting a bit and anthropomorphizing the Universe's "desires," which probably isn't warranted, which your simple logical quandary in #3 outlines. To address a few of your points though: 1. There is absolutely no reason to assume that moral thought and behavior requires anything more than adaptations that come from successfully living in this world as a social species (e.g. worms don't have rules, whereas cows, elephants, wolves, chimps, etc., any social species, do). There need not be, nor CAN there be an objective basis to morality. Even if there is a God, what you call "morality" would be different depending on ones species or historical context. For instance, it was ostensibly moral for the Israelites to mercilessly slaughter their enemies, or execute infidels and idolators, since Yahweh, the arbiter of morality, told them to do so. Personally, I find it exceedingly unlikely that there is a discretely unique and conscious "transcendent being" behind the Universe. It seems like a disgusting and childish idea. 3. The Big Bang was not the creation of matter/energy. It was the beginning of Time-Space, as the matter/energy "singularity" that IS our universe expanded, cooled, and congealed in various configurations. Since "before" the Big Bang is not thought to have any meaning, since the event marks the beginning of Time from our perspective, it's tough to verbalize or conceptualize. However, I've read a lot about the Big Bang, and one of the primary reasons that there is a growing contemporary mythos about a "multiverse" or "cyclical universe" is because the whole shebang must have existed in some form/state prior the Big Bang. We now seek to understand what this singularity is, how it came to be in that state, etc. Matter is neither created nor destroyed, and that Law goes for the universe itself. The matter/energy that comprises our universe is thought to be eternally existent, without need for a creator. It has always existed, and has perhaps gone through infinite reiterations. Considering an infinitude of universes expanding and contracting or dissipating, never having been created, eternally existent in some guise or another, without true beginnings and endings, and suddenly "God" becomes a very tiny and unnecessary concept altogether. 4. Wrong. You cannot give love without love. If you don't "have" love, how can you give love? If you give love, then how were you not in possession of love already?

The mind is the battle ground. As men & woman think so are they. To be or not to be? That is the question. The kingdom of God is within. Thought manifestation, what we think in the universe of our minds, we can create, perhaps not in its entirety but cause to bring about in the outside 3D world. A simple example of thought manifestation is choice, will it be coffee or tea this morning, a long sleeve shirt or a T-shirt. You have the thoughts, organize them and choose your action in 3D. What do we call the area of the mind? What Steve says; "of infinite possibilities". Choice is direction, momentum from whatever the stimulation is, catalyzes the thought and once we finalize it, we take from the inside of the mind and manifest it into the outside world in 3D. My new catch phrase for this is 'VISION TO FRUISION". It refers me back to the teaching of the gospels where we are instructed that if we think it, we may as well consider it done. (just a couple of Bible references to highlight a point, I'm sure there are better passages, but still these help to organize my thoughts.) These thoughts I'm writing are another example of inside my mind to outside my mind and into our shared 3D reality ...now sharing my thoughts, who knows perhaps effecting the entire fabric of the universe, whoa! We can say that Steve Vai has shared the inside world of his mind or organized musical thoughts that he has manifested from inside the thought realm and brought if forth in our shared 3D reality, arguably changing the reality for all of us, powerful. That makes you appreciate the importance of positive and negative. Steve is a fantastic example of positive, music is such a great call for that. Examples of negative, just pick one out there that has proven to effect us all. Inward and outward, expansion and contraction ...there's something here, it is interesting how we are told something from the outside of ourselves to teach us things about the workings of our realm and it has to get into our heads to learn about then it becomes part of your 'THOUGHT-VERSE' aka the universe of our minds and again to formulate a thought to bring forth into our shared space. It becomes apparent that allowing lies to enter your thought-verse, would corrupt the manifestation into our shared universe built in truth. Because of the vulnerable system we have of understanding we can be easily manipulated to have false truths catalyze our thoughts, it seems almost hypnotic the way allow practically any information into the inside of our underestimated thought-verse. Kinda funny how the sub-word 'verse' is in universe, makes me think of 'The Word, God.' Speaking creation into existence, so we are told and taught is truth. Belief, could be argued is the precursor to what kind of thoughts we formulate, believe in falseness (neg) and you build a house of cards, believe in correctness (pos) manifest an alignment with truth. Mark 11:23 New American Standard Bible Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted to him. 1 John 1:8 New International Version If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. I was thinking about that recently, inside, outside. We (the originals) are inside the garden, then outside. We are outside the womb, then inside. After we are outside the womb and inside this reality (Earth) then after we are on the outside again. After that it seems clear inside something else again to be outside it eventually. Light exists outside a black hole then as far as we know goes inside the black hole and we have no idea what actually happens but using this logic perhaps we can hypothesise that it will lead to an outside somewhere. We can call it the Brundlefly theory, I would argue that George Costanza was right; "it's all pipes!"

I have no problem with what Steve Vai said as long as he says that he feels this way because of this and it is perpetuated by so and so thoughts moving forward through his creative journey. I disagree when he applies it to other people, like you me or the other person. Context matters, and I think he has a great approach for himself and how to deal and cope with those influences that he seems to be able to control. However, other people may not be in a situation to say, "hey, if he hits me again, or ridicules me again I know that it is all in my head, and can just walk away and live another day until it happens again." Except that person is trapped and does not have the intellect, situation or resources as someone like Steve has to realize those things.
@StratMatt777
@StratMatt777 4 года назад
Your reaction to ridicule is all in your head. Your reaction to other people's thoughts about you is ONLY in your head. However, someone hitting you is physical... start lifting weights (safely- don't hurt your back) or learn kung-fu and defend yourself the next time someone hits you. That is your right as a human.

Is the Universe so stupid that it couldn't simply enjoy itself without producing suffering and harm? LOL "Universe" and "God" - nonsense. And do you *really* control the thoughts in your head? All of mine are a response to stimulus in the environment. That said, I very much enjoy Steve Vai's guitar work. Brilliant musician. A hero!
@sudonim9108
@sudonim9108 7 лет назад
+CodeStation Universe, God, whatever you want to think is ok. You can *really* control the thoughts in your head though, whenever you want. Just takes practice, and in the same way you can choose your response to most stimuli.
@aleatoriac7356
@aleatoriac7356 7 лет назад
I've studied meditation. I can even do it. And it never happens in a vacuum / isolation from some form of percept. Nothing we do does. The assertion that I'm somehow controlling anything is baseless. What is the mechanism? How does the uncaused cause exert this magical force on my brain? I'd love for there to be some truth to the idea of a soul. Heck, even a God, then I'd have somebody to point to as the arbitrary moron who started all of our suffering. These ideas all reduce to contradictory propositions and require unnecessary assumptions. Can a contradictory proposition ever be a true statement about reality?
@sudonim9108
@sudonim9108 7 лет назад
+CodeStation Probably not. If this reply was directed at me, I was only referring to your point that you made about controlling the thoughts in your head, which I am sure is possible to a large degree, if you are in good mental health. Your response seems to be a tangent to that. If you are now saying there might be some external force acting on you, then with our current knowledge that's in the realm of a faith belief system, which is something I wouldn't like to influence you in any direction. That would be for you to work out. For the other point, try reading The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle.

Sudo Nim Thanks, that is a good book. I see what Steve is saying. And the answer to my own question is: yes, the Universe is too stupid to enjoy itself without producing suffering and harm. And while that is tragic, there's no reason it can't learn to stop doing that. The solution to Zeno's paradox is that existence is quantized, not that motion is impossible. We are all this quantized energy. Any boundaries between us and the rest of the Universe are linguistic. In other words, arbitrary. The label is not the thing. We are the Universe experiencing itself, trying to figure out what it is. So of course it's going to be stupid. We are all stupid. And that's OK. I get what he's saying now.
