As I read some of these comments I couldn't help but notice a few negative comments that were uncalled for and very disrespectful. Steven Watts is a true pioneer and a good friend and he deserves nothing but respect. Some of you need to either grow up or get a life.
You Tube has plenty of fine Bush Craft content but I also very much enjoy 'classic camping' equipment and techniques, including the period clothing. Where are the other classic camping channels?
Chad, if I may where did you find the brass lighter you show in your camp set up video. Really like your videos but as someone else mentioned - too short.
Ed I'm not sure where Watts got that but it was a popular item for troops in the Great War. I'll ask him at Rabbitstick where he got it and get back to ya!
It's called a 'trench lighter'. They are readily available on e-bay. Both original vintage models and brass reproductions. There are also two common versions. The type you see in the video that looks like a small zippo variant and the type I have with the flint and spark-wheel housing mounted to the exterior of the combustion chamber and a small hinged cap covering the wick.
Wow that's really cool. I always find the ways of previous generations really interesting to watch. In some ways we've gained some really nice efficiencies, but I think on the other hand we've perhaps lost a few things along the way as well. At least if we're not careful we will ;-)
im going to camp for 2 weeks in the forest im barley going to be 18 im nerves but im doing it because looking for gold is my absolute passion.what should i take beside my prospecting gear how much food what type of food?how much water etc.

+Chad Nech Yep, a good old Model A or Model T would have taken you more places than any modern Honda. Those old narrow tire, 40hp Fords would do some things that only a modern 4wd Jeep will do today. Check out some of the old videos sometime.
Like Claude suggests some would have used pack animals. Canoes were also widely available. Also available for most of the Golden Age was the car. If you were tramping then obviously a canvas whelen lean to was out of the question. keep in mind they would have used balloon silk which is even lighter than some ripstop nylons today.
The yeti cooler for $400 also keeps ice in solid form 3 to 4 days......hope you have your reciepts lol...unless your just trendy and looking to waste money.
The Romanian Log Fire is soooo much better and won't go out in the rain!!! I guess living in the past is ok, but if SHTF, bet you will be in deep dodo trying to haul all that old stuff.
After 46 seconds I turned it off. I thought the fire was too far away. And any fire with a wall behind it IS a reflector fire. I almost wasted 5 minutes of my life.
First time watcher. Your cameraman needs to learn to keep the camera still. All that movement makes it very difficult to watch. I got vertigo from watching this video.
spaaggetii stolen from Steve Watts? How do you work that out. He filmed it and clearly Steve was happy with that so it's his content. Would you say the same of other youtubers who just talk about stories in the news? At least this guy was there experiencing it and talking with Steve. If he hadn't of done that this content wouldn't exist for you to watch so exactly how has he stolen it?
It's the leaves everywhere, all the way and all around and even point blanking the fire-place too, The 2nd thing l noticed, he looks lazy to buy himself a rake to prevent the leaves from morphing into a big-time bushfire.
