Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak discusses his lawsuit against RU-vid, the outlook for Apple and his views on TikTok and artificial intelligence. He speaks with Alix Steel and Scarlet Fu on Bloomberg Television.
It is great to hear Steve Wozniak saying how tech is not intuitive or user friendly anymore, and how we don't own anything anymore and it's subscriptions and all these updates all the time, and how things were simpler before. So it's not just me!!! I was feeling like I'm getting so behind the times or something, and all these people putting their noses up at me loving all the updates or something, and to me things are getting worse. If Wozniak is saying the same thing as me, I share good company when it comes to complaining about tech.

So much crud and cruft now. If I can't Download locally onto storage I control and OWN the software and content and control exactly IF AND WHEN it updates I will not use it.
They are trying to get him to respond as if he’s an Apple spokesman but he’s just a technology enthusiast and concerned citizen in his retirement age 😂😅 😂
He is far more than a technology enthusiast. He is a pioneer of the computer age. Top respects to the man. You rarely hear any intelligence on the box these days, so well worth listening to. As the presenter admitted, she does not think anything.
@@Andrew-rc3vhYes!! I did a search for any comments on the matter and when I had seen Woz I knew I was going to get some viable information. Woz and Jobs created Apple years ago in a garage.
@@Andrew-rc3vh I know, I'm half joking when I say he's just a concerned citizen who is just a technology enthusiast and enjoying his retirement. He is practically one of the inventor of modern personal computer, and I got mad respect. My frustration is with people who, unable to get Apple to address their issues, will manipulate a statement from Woz into an anti-Apple soundbite. This kind of sensationalism isn't new.
And from Jobs. You listen to Wozniak speech and the philosophy behind the birth of Apple. Innovation, simplicity and optimization. But still brought by hackers. Real hackers, in the true and good sense. That's why Apple products of their time had Hackintosh as alternative, RAM and any parts upgradable without firmware locks. Now Apple innovation is how to make believe they innovate while they're offered next to no evolution.
Even if youtube doesnt have "responsibility" for the scam they have a duty of care to protect consumer who use their platform. Not sure why the interviewer doesnt get this concept.
Not sure if you are gullible, someone else is responsible. I have been scammed in couple ways in couple of things. Who do I blame? The govt cos they have let this guy be born? His parents for making him?
@@pavanbk15589 jeff is referring to a fundamental base of law. If you have a business that involves public use you have a duty of care to protect the public against malicious use of your service. This doesn't mean they're going to catch every attacker, but they must prove they are putting in reasonable effort to protect the consumer. I have reported many scams to youtube and they politely thank me for my report, but there's no assurance they've dealt with the issue.
@@pavanbk15589 There are kids, there are old people. Get it. You can't go with the argument to blame the people for being ignorant. RU-vid should not offer a service to this degree, unless they can properly run it. Get it? They got plenty of profits to cover these things.

Holy shit. He’s so well media trained. He doesn’t shy away from answering their questions but he’s clear that his opinions are his own and are based on his experience and perspective. It’s pretty clear that he’s still very protective of big tech but not above criticising it. And he should be criticising it. He’s had his hand in leading tech for years. He has the expertise and knowledge. So for him to say “many other companies are as bad as TikTok” was so refreshing. His view on AI is also quite progressive. AI is good in computing and language but unreliable in content generation. I just hope he had said the words “regulation” but I guess that’s a scary word for any big tech.
Is it just me, or did that interviewer have one hell of a makeover mid interview? I have a very simple view of this: if you edit content you are an editor, not just a carrier. Just like Bloomberg is responsible for edited content, so is RU-vid and so are all the other 'social media' platforms. It you composite content with advertising that is editing. If you selectively push particular content to particular audiences, that is editing. If you attribute particular content as coming from particular authors, you are responsible for ensuring that attribution is correct. The carrier argument (by analogy with a telephone company) only works if you (the carrier) are not making ANY editorial decisions.
Gov’t has become a perfect representation of the people for whom they stand, by a startlingly vast majority: STUPID AND GREEDY, DOING IT FOR THE LIKES.
This is what happens when diversity hires who know nothing about the topic which they’re asking questions, really put forward solid proof that DIVERSITY YIELDS STRENGTH & QUALITY. Experts yield quality. Funny that the majority of RU-vid comments are made by people who get it but special interest bloomberg doesn’t get it (prolly the Alphabet snausages in their rearsides distracting them.)
I think that's obvious to everyone, not monopoly in itself, but they force you into an ecosystem that's like a prison. Getting Apple products to work with Linux or Windows is difficult. Everything that Apple sells is overpriced too. Their products are of high quality though.
I wished they talked more about the lawsuit because it could (and should) have big implications for these sites and their verification processes. If a medical board certified a doctor who turned out to be underqualified and nefariously was looking to harm their patients, that medical board would be partially responsible. These social media sites now have these verification processes that aren't stringent. And bad actors can exploit that to scam. And that should be talked about more.
This guy has integrity, he answered all of the questions truthfully. You would think he would be all behind Apple but instead he speaks the truth about how software is created today, also the fact that all of the other big tech companies are doing exactly what TikTok is doing but they aren't being forced to shut down.
Absolutely wonderful update from Woz, great topics, I am so glad he is 100% since his stroke last year. Apple needs to heal the relationship and welcome him back as a Principal Engineer or a member of the Board of Directors. His clarity is needed in today's increasingly complex technologies.
Steve Wozniak is right on so many levels. The beauty of simplicity and ease of use are far gone and have been replaced by very ugly laziness and half assed afterthoughts.
He's right. As someone who's watched bitcoin-related content on RU-vid, their algorithm pushed countless bitcoin scams to me. Others weren't targeted and were never pushed the scam content. It was RU-vid doing the targeting in service of the scam promoters who were paying Google. Think of it this way: if a scammer pays me to participate in promoting their illegal fraud and I make lots of money by finding & referring to them those most likely to become victims of the scam, shouldn't I as a promoter of that fraud also be liable for my participation?
Jobs was the visionary charismatic leader and marketing genius. Woz was the actual nitty gritty engineer / extreme computer nerd / scientist. Both were critical to those Apple seeds growing.
If RU-vid is recommending a scam the person/corporation of RU-vid is using their speech to recommend a scam they're using their speech to recommend a crime so they are an accessory to a crime that's what he's trying to say
RU-vid has a responsibility to not look like it's endorsing the scams on its platform in any way -- I think that's the point Wozniak was making, and it's a good point. Another way RU-vid could deal with this is eliminate the obvious scams. The more subtle ones might still be there, because you don't want to kick off people where there are "false positives" for scammy behavior, but at least get the obvious ones.
This guy hit the nail on the head with TikTok. Unfortunately we seem to only find people who make any logical, rational, sense in our country ONLY when they are completely outside of our own captured Congress or mainstream medias. Sheesh!! Good for him!

Steve is venting about his frustration on the apps, nothing make sense to him and most of consumer, yet big tech sucking more and more of the money. It's weird that earning lots of money doesn't correlate with user experience anymore. He seems to has nostalgia on old days when everything is so simple and feel useful. The complexity of the software overrun even the once great developer's mental capacity.
What is he even suing for? This is the first i'm hearing of it and have nfi wtf this is about. Whoever decided to clip this midway through and omitting the start of the interview did a terrible job.
11:57 Abusing your power because of your size is a problem. No company should be afraid of competition that they are willing to sabotage smaller companies or startups to remain on top.
The threat is that China owns the data and data is king. How many military and other national security personnel use Tik Tok? They can track all of their movements and possibly gain information from photos etc.

I have so much respect for Steve Wozniak, such a humble and wise person. I agree with other comments, please don't interrupt the chain of thought of this legend that is not afraid to say good and bad things about any company including his own, apple. Such a blessed figure.
Due respect to Woz: A sticky, compelling ecosystem does not define a monopoly. A monopoly is about exclusive control over the market or the availability of choices for anyone in the market looking to engage those choices. You are not a monopoly if, for instance, the use of your product or service creates such strong customer loyalty that customers are willing to pay a premium for it. So, to say, “To its users, Apple is a monopoly,” tends to turn the concept of monopoly on its head. IMO: The need for government to step in and protect the public from antitrust or similar behaviour should arise because there’s no serious competition. Once there is, merely charging a premium for the convenience afforded by its ecosystem does not in itself make out an antitrust or anticompetitive practice. Once there is competition, you are free to set any price you want, or any rules you want, in a free market. And consumers are free to treat as they see fit. Also, the view that those locked into the Apple ecosystem have nowhere to go is not correct. There’s hardly any digital resource I have on the Apple ecosystem that cannot be migrated to Android or Windows. People switch platforms everyday. People use both systems side by side, and easily share data across them. Government is going to have a hard time making this case. Especially since, for instance, the install capacity of Android and Windows each individually exceeds that of iOS and MacOS respectively.
Apple have created a monopoly - but not in the traditional sense. Thats why guys like you fail to understand the notion of which Woz is defining a monopoly. Consumers choice is Apple. But why? Because Apple through innovation and strategy created an ecosystem for which once a consumer buys one device, they will buy the whole suite. Their whole life becomes APPLE. Now what this means is they can just be stagnant on innovation whilst maximising dollar return from each consumer -> which is exactly what they've done. Well done Apple. What does this mean for competition? They literally have no way in - zero. People won't switch if the fundamentals of their life is locked into a whole suite of devices. This means the consumer is paralysed and can't actually make a CHOICE! It is no longer a 'free market'. Unless Apple royally fcks things up, consumer's aren't changing. Even if there are better alternatives for them on the market. P>S> I'm a big apple advocate and have been for many years. However, I have a balanced perspective and can cut through the BS.
Apps can come with virus also a phishing virus a fact, and hackers can get into every gadget break firewalls , yet they can be outsmarted and that shall be shared with only the ones who have right intentions of doing good for all
i called this out the second this scam happened. i still have the screenshots of the youtube, QR code, and screen shot if the "twitter" msg. ya, that was a scary moment! almost fell for it!
well. he is right.. at least on a logical level, i dont know if the law is on his side, but logically his reasoning is sound. google/RU-vid did not their do diligence, but affirmed the account with the "real" badge, so some people had a legitimate notion that the account was legit and not a scam account ( you would think if google/youtube affirms with a blue check that its trustworthy). many would not fall for it cos being smarter, and smell bs when you see it. but some will, and its not that they are dumb, they are just easier to fool then others, and cos they seen the affirmed account badge, they were thinking it will be fine.
Great to hear Woz stick it to the tech world. Btw, those oneliners at the bottom repeating every other thing Woz says. Are they for the hearing impaired?
Steve is doing the right thing here. The scams on RU-vid is out of hand and there needs to be an incentive for google to do something (since doing the right thing is no more their thing).

Amazing how the anchor is asking questions that have Captain Obvious answers. The greats of journalism like Walter Cronkite and Ed Murrow were truly the last of their kind :(
I reported many of these scams as I was presented with a lot of them, however Woz is wrong on one point - RU-vid did not give them a checkmark, they were 99.99% big channels already and were Hacked due to RU-vids / Google's cookie system, which over rode 2 factor authentication, if it could be obtained (usually with an email offering sponsership. Continuing with that system is / was the issue RU-vid was responsible for.
Woz is absolutely right. Check marks and any certification icons are misleading everyone if the certification means nothing but “paid extra to get this icon”. We demand these icons mean real, legit identification and business practices.
