Cree re-watched scenes from Seasons 1, 2, and 3 and gave some behind-the-scenes commentary. From his friendship with Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe, to his favorite scenes, to the his proudest moment on "Outlander," he shares it all! He also talks about his new show, "The Diplomat" premiering soon in the UK.
Cree lets us in on the story behind bloopers with Balfe and Heughan. Plus, he says how it felt to return for "Outlander" Season 7, his past work with Laura Donnelly who played Jenny, and how it was to act with Kristin Atherton who joins Outlander as the new Jenny.

When "Outlander" premiered 8 years ago, Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan brought author Diana Gabaldon’s iconic book couple Jamie and Claire Fraser to life across televisions everywhere. The hit Starz show, now entering its seventh season, changed the lives of the actors and fans alike. Steven Cree joined halfway through the first season as Jamie and Claire’s brother-in-law, Ian Murray. He last appeared in the show in season 4 and is now slated to return for season 7. After that, "Outlander" will have its eighth and final season.
Cree sat down with SheKnows for a little Droughtlander chat, to look back on his time on the show, re-watch some scenes from earlier seasons, and give Cree commentary in a way only he can. He also reveals what his proudest moment on Outlander is (it involves his on-screen sister-in-law, Balfe). He shares stories about his friendship with Heughan and Balfe, and how it felt to return to the show that changed his life. The news about the end of Outlander dropped the day before Cree spoke with us, so he let us in on how he felt about the show ending, and of course, how he would write Jamie and Claire’s happy ending.

I love the story behind the reunion of Ian and Claire… it is one of my favorite scenes, he portrays how genuine Ian is as a person so brilliantly and I am so thankful that Steven stood his ground on that scene because it is so memorable. He is one of those pure, genuine and nice characters. And THEN he had to stand up for that scene alone with Laura! That was also very memorable and was super important to the story and added to the Jame and Jenny relationship to see Ian standing up to Jenny and pointing out that she’s in the wrong. I think it was critical for her to be told that for her to reconcile with Claire. Yes it’s important for Ian as a character but it’s important to that storyline.

Love Steven Cree. He is a great "original" Ian, and loved him as Gallowglass. Can't wait to see his latest. I hope we can get The Diplomat here in the US but Outlander, ughh, surviving the droughtlander is hard but we sure have a lot to look forward to. I'm a book reader so as always, it's never without joy and pain.

Great interview again! Thank you! Stuffed cabbage is absolutely delicious (usually with minced meat, herbs, seasoning). Eastern European and Middle Eastern cuisine have it, with variations of stuffed vine leaves or chard. Sarma is the name for it usually.

Calling someone old or young Ian, is how the cast and crew differentiate between the two!

If Tobias Menzies can play Frank Randall and his great great great... grand uncle Black Jack Randall, then why can't Sam Heughan play his character's father. He looks a lot like him and could certainly have gotten those muscles from farming if Jamie could. But Starz might be twisted up into Oedipus complexes.

Controversial comment but imo Jenny was spot on about Claire when she called her a trollop considering whats coming up in the show.

He is the only actor, in this show, that looks *nothing* like his character. Also, not sure who has the best natural accent, him or Rankin. Either one could read the books, on audio, and I'd sit there, enraptured, with my head propped on my hand. 🥰
