Me too The best Champions league final he was there The greatest UEL final, he lit it up, The greatest Fa cup final he was there.. Gerrard was my favourite player... and probably is
@NAATH KABOOTREE Yea. That's how much he was liverpool, even his error was the club's downfall. You have forgotten so soon, that he was the reason for a long time liverpool remain afloat mediocrity
1:40 "You beauty... what a hit son, what a hit!" This legendary goal with the legendary commentator always be my fave. It leads us to our 5th CL trophy.
It's really hard to choose in this Era... They also got Beckham who was a monster in passing and assists. Lampard was more the goalscoring midfielder. Scholes and gerrard more for the long shots. If I Have to choose I would prefer Beckham the most personally, cause I think his passing ability is unreachable. Gerrard would be my 2nd, he was just brilliant
I completely agree with you. Lampard scored more goals if I am not mistaken, Scholes had the best range of passing, Giggs the the best dribbling and pace, Beckham with the best crossing and dead ball delivery, Carrick had defense but Gerrard did all of those at a 90 percent level compared to those players where the other players completely lacked other skills. Like Beckham couldn’t defend and Carrick couldn’t shoot but Stevie G could do it all at such a high level. Since I started watching football he is perhaps the most complete player to ever play. I never saw Koeman, Gullit or Platini play but I heard they were very complete players too. Such a shame he never won a PL. Oh well, the UCL in my opinion is the hardest and most prestigious trophy even though he beat my AC Milan. I still miss his genius.
Most overhyped player of recent times. Had 1 good game every 5 matches and was called "the best". Championship player. Theres a reason he never won the league. Consistency. He consistently under performed. Fact.
Stanley Hudson no that’s a TEAM trophy silly boy! Maybe look at his FWA and PFA Player of the year trophies, or his selection for the UEFA Team of the CENTURY!!! But yeah you make a great point 🤪😂
From an Inter Milan fan, I think Gerrard was the most complete midfielder of his decade: tackling, dribbling, passing, shooting, leading the team...this guy had it all! That shot at 4:13, getting past Cambiasso, Stankovic, Chivu and Cesar to strike in the only possible space in the goal, still haunts me to this day. A snooker shot. Cheers :)
These goals alone would make some argue that they are the best English midfielder of all time. Add the rest of his goals, assists, passing, Defensive ability. Absolutely the best.
@@felina7849 How is he supposed to do that when he's always surrounded by bang-average players. Whenever he had good players with him, they left. The rebuilding and signing during that time was terrible
Even though I'm an Arsenal fan, that day when he slipped and Liverpool missed out on the title I was sad for weeks because Gerrard REALLY deserved a league title in the red shirt. #Legend
He didn't deserve anything. The team with the most points at the end of the season deserves it. Every club can say a player in their team who puts in effort deserves the title too. Thats your logic not mine. He slipped because he is a loser. Couple of cups and the CL that they got into without actually being champions 😆
@@KENNYPAUL2 I genuinely don't care if you think the truth is a low blow. Just man up and say it how it is. No participation trophies for losers. Winners only. Do you think Gerrard was telling the Rangers players that 2nd in the league was fine? No he wasn't so its not fine for him either.
Fairplay mate, he had you lot on toast and there's not much you could've done about it, I actually felt sorry for Everton eventually....he had the mentality, the vision, the power, the technique and the will to win...one of the biggest crimes in football was that he never won the premier league, that will always blight his copybook and it's a crying shame for the best English central midfield player to ever play the game to have never won 1
2:45 This goal was one of his most special. 2-0 down in FA Final, came upto 3-2 with one assist and goal and then this monster Goal at 90+ min. What a Legend!
No fella.. 2 níl down.. Cisse bagged one back before half time.. Then 2 all.. 3..2 Our mob West Ham.. Enter the champion.. Stevie G.. All in the best possible taste..
One of his most memorable strikes. But you weren't 3- nil down. You were initially 2 -nil down; brought it back to 2-2, then 3-2 down again before his wonder strike.
Im a ac milan fan since 1990 but this player still gives me goosebumps. What a man.. He didn’t play football he played for people .. Liverpool has won CL also and above all this wonderful player. Thank you for this video and FORZA MILN 🖤 ❤
When I watch and remember these goals I shake my head in disbelief. His bravery in attacking the ball when defenders are lunging at him to try and block the shot ......well, it was unbelievable. His iron will. His technique! Bloody hell, he was a gem. Plus, he was more than a player to the Liverpool faithful.
Considering he grew up within walking distance of the stadium, and played his entire career at Liverpool - if a movie was made about it, people would think- "Nah, unrealistic. Fairy tales don't come true."
Hands down my favorite player of all time. That rocket of a right foot, damn I miss him so bad. Thank you Anfield Legend for the compilation with commentary and not with music. Well done.
Amazing striking technique! Look at his body shape as he strikes the ball. Arms counter-balancing, hips swivelling, head over the ball and MASSIVE follow through. Created dip, swerve and power beyond belief! The ball is usually going left to right in flight but sometimes climbing, sometimes dipping, sometimes freaking corkscrewing! Absolutely immense player, a joy to watch. Respect from a Chelsea fan here.
Some people might think "So he just scored some long range shots, so what? everyone scores them at times." but these shots mean so much more. Gerrard could virtually do anything on the pitch so he was simply amazing. These shots though, they were not prayers, these were purposeful. And these shots represented hope for us, hope that at anytime, there could be a goal and the game could change. Maybe because our team was shit, we had to feel that way but yea when the ball was on his feet, we felt like anything could happen.
fun fact: since he was a little kop kid, he always practices his long range shots in the alleys and streets where lads play footies. He adored Barnes back when he was a wee lad, and...there's the result, lol (source: My Story, Biography of Steven Gerrard)
@@felina7849 For a start, it’s a factually correct statement. Gerrard does have more long range goals than some players have combined goals. And secondly, Lampard doesn’t eclipse him at all. He has 8 more long range goals than Gerrard in the EPL (33 vs 41) and it took him 104 more games to do it, leaving them both on a 1 long range goal per 15 games ratio. That’s hardly an eclipse. Gerrard also did it in much worse teams. Put him in Chelsea financially doped squad and it would be no competition.
The 10 year old me would practice those Gerrard long range shots and shout GEEERRRRAAARRRDDD!!! Loved watching him as I grew up. Gave his all for both club and country England and Liverpool Legend
I started watching football only because of Gerrard. I get goosebumps when the commentators shout GERRRRAD. Only GERRARD can hit the goals from deep midfield. THATS HIS SHOOTING RANGE. LOTS OF LOVE FROM INDIA
If I were to describe Gerrard with one word, it would be force. He did everything with such force, and purpose. Shots, passes, tackles, leading. A joy to watch.
How England failed to win anything with such a phenomenal and all round gifted midfielder I don't think I'll ever know or accept. Even as a Toffees fan I take my hat off to him. I know people can say all sorts but the simple truth is he was simply one of the best of his generation. Yes England made a complete balls up and headache setting up the England midfield, mixing him with Lampard, Scholes etc but Gerrard definitely should of been put at the core position with everyone else working off him / supporting him. Arguably the best attacking midfielder since Gazza. A Liverpool legend.
Man, I love to watch Stevie G's goals over and over again, I'll never get tired of it. My favourite player ever. What he was able to do, those long shots, his vision of game, such a great technique, his effort as the true captain of Liverpool... What a great legend, our loved captain. YNWA.
0:22 I was 11 years old when I watched the Germany vs. England match. And as a german kid I was amazed by Gerrard and Owen. Never forget Gerrards goal.
In my own position, I was crazy about [Steven] Gerrard. I remember in the Champions League final comeback by Liverpool against AC Milan, you saw him up front, on the wings, and a moment later he was back, marking the playmaker, I have never seen such a complete midfielder. Claudio Marchisio
My all time favourite player period. He played in bang average sides bar a couple of seasons and dragged them by the scruff of the neck. If he commanded the midfield now at his peak, he'd have had that PL medal he so wanted. Taking nothing away from Hendo btw. Just Stevie was a better player and he would admit that.
Since I saw the 0-3 comback against AC Milan and how much Steven was pushing his team and fighting for every ball and getting them back in the game with his header I became a big fan...this was an equaly impressive performance as Zidane vs Brasil....probably the most complete midfieldler of his generation.
So if Gerrard can’t be as good as Lampard or Scholes cause he’s never won the league That makes Shaqiri better then the whole City Spurs & Arsenal squad 😉
I wouldn’t worry about people who use TEAM awards to say that a player is better than another... Gerrard was the only British player in the UEFA Team of the Century! Scholes and Lamps aren’t even in the conversation!
That FA Cup goal will go down in my heart as an absolute worldie. The power he got from that shot, a goal that was so crucial to go the distance against West Ham. He hit that as if his life depended on it. YNWA 💕💕
JEEEEZUS---I knew he had hammered a lot of long range missiles in---BUT ,BLOODYHELL, there were soooo many. There will never be another. A REAL HERO ! (Villa fan)
1 OF THE BEST BOX TO BOX MIDFIELDERS OF HIS GENERATIONS ,HE HAD IT ALL ! THE TACKLES,THE LONG PASSES ,AND OF COURSE COULD SCORE A GOAL FROM JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE ON A FOOTBALL PARK ! NOW HES 1 OF THE BEST YOUNG UP AND COMING MANAGERS ! LEGEND IN LIVERPOOL A GOD IN GLASGOW ❤⚪💙
Absolute legend!!! I am a real die hard Liverpool supporter have been all 30 years of my life so far and will be til the day I die,, no one will ever step into stevie g’s boots ever!!! Legend of a player and a real decent man aswell 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
He was one of the best english midfielders ever. The amount of times I've seen him pull Liverpool through to a win is fantastic. I used to call him Mr Liverpool. I'm a Man United fan. Credit where it is due, anyone who doesn't rate Gerrard as a footballer, doesn't know anything about football. One of our very english best.
The real life Roy of the Rovers. This lad had everything the complete player he could tackle defend pass on a six pence head the ball and score from virtually anywhere. He was a leader of men and pulled Liverpool out of the mire on so many occasions and to top it all when virtually every big club in world football were either publicly or secretly wishing for his signature he stayed loyal to his club and fans. A true legend of our times forget Scholes Vieira Keane who all had world class teammates Gerrard for me is number one
The man almost single handedly kept Liverpool as a big team in England from 2003 to 2015 because we weren't winning titles and had a lot of very average players like Diouf, Biscan and Konchesky but he carried them to trophies and champions league football for many years imagine him playing for Klopp now our team would be complete
As a Celtic fanatic I idolised this man … when he became rangers manager my estimation of him went down ,.. but there is no getting away from it .. his honesty his quality .. his loyalty… how he handled himself an the job he is doin in management give credit we’re it is due … and regardless will always respect him …. Top class 🇮🇪💚🤍🧡☘️
History can't find another Steven G. He is the reason I belonged to this family "You'll never walk alone" I pray some day I have the honour to shake his hand...
