J B Yeah but back in the early '90s there was very little electronic trading by the largest and most ovious commercial banks and practically zero small or home trader working online, most of it was still moving on paper and by phone so there was little or now real time control by SEC. Fun fact: During this scene, Steven Spielberg (who's a good friend with Martin Scorsese) visited the set. And according to Scorsese himself, Spielberg literally spend a whole day watching the process and help directing some part. Imagine the pressure tho. Two Academy Award Winner directing the scene. The majority of all sales jobs, especially telemarketing, get employees to memorise a script. Some places even punish you for going off script even if it makes sense. You might dig telemarketing if this appeals to you, some good friends made over 100k a year when including commissions and got offered a lot of opportunities for better paying jobs in the same industry. You just gotta be fairly ruthless and willing to hit people with the upsell and be ok with selling to people who clearly misunderstand what's going on, including old people. Most of the time they were giving people a better deal than they already had though. This was telemarketing phones, prepaid plans and internet packages etc.
