36:26 "Any movement that kills its critics, or fires them, or shuts them up is probably a sign that it is a decadent intellectual movement that's not going to lead to something good" Brilliant

Ryan, you've probably already addressed the Ukraine-Russian conflict, most likely on your podcast or your very wise emails. I hope you make a video on how our stoic virtues and reason relates to it and how we can grow wiser from this event.

@@jtrader1251 I relate. Ripe old age of 48, and all I want to do is sleep. Suspect fairly recent 3 X COVID shots and boosters might be contributing (have heard anecdotally). Live through this, hopefully with a stronger immune system! Or have I mentioned the illness which dare not speak it's name? 🙃

A racist is a racist and yes that is a bad and vile thing .... couldnt figure out why the excuses and going around in circles in the discussion was about ☹

Because too often, people are labelled racist for things that aren't racist. As he said, being critical of a theory or an idea for example

For me, they're trying to debate what we class as racist. "A racist is a racist" - fine, but what defines a racist? If everyone is a racist then no-one is a racist and therefore people who are actually racist will be harder to identify and weed out of society.

Depend on who you ask you would get different definitions of racism. One definition is, racism is prejudice plus power. Another one is, discriminating or harming a person on the basis of skin colour. Ibram X. Kendi defines racism - "Racism is a marriage of racist policies and racist ideas that produces and normalizes racial inequities." It is not as easy to define what is racist today.

This is what he meant by decay of intellect.

Another negative effect of the CRT usage of the term "racist" is that it has completely normalized being racist by expanding the term so greatly that it encompasses most of the population. I would have strongly defended myself against the charge of being racist had someone used the old definition of racism (irrational hatred towards other races) to accuse me. Now, I proudly declare myself to be a racist, since its definition has been changed to mean the rational belief that rewards should be given or deprived on the basis of merit rather than racial identity. Going forward, we may need to invent a new term for people who hate other races, since "racist" no longer means that.

To have a better chance of arriving at the right answers, we need to be asking the right questions. When an individual intentionally takes actions that cause the death of one or many, we don't ask a historian or politician why that person acted as they did. We ask a psychologists what was the motivated reasoning of the serial killer ( put your social status aside, People are dying!). Why are there very few videos featuring qualified ( Science) psychologists talking about Putin on "trending" youtube videos? You think poo-tin is any different than a serial killer. Why? because he is in power! We judge by deeds done! Not position of power. "President" Poo-tin the serial killer! That's what Poo-tin evidently is. Though, maybe some politically "correct" rhetoric may seduce the "snake". ( FYI, Protect actual reptiles. We also don't need a biodiversity crisis)

Jesus Christ, I’m finding a new stoic mentor. Ryan’s ridiculous political takes in this podcast are too much. Pinker was too kind in showing you the errors in your opinions. Stick to stoic thought, leave your politics at the door.
