Well, i'd read theories about Rose Quartz and Pink diamond being the same person, so I wasn't super unprepared- but Garnet splitting up, Sapphire being angrier then Ruby, and her just fucking right off.... THAT I was really unprepared for!!!

I actually disagree. I think the other diamonds did care for her in their own way. They may be ruthless against organics and other planets, but they genuinely loved her. Pink Diamond was wrong about that and so her "fake my death" plan didn't pan out they way she expected. She honestly thought they didn't care about her and would leave the earth alone once she "died". But they were so upset that the three diamonds united and blasted the earth (the bright light).
