I am a passionate music fan as well as an actively performing mobile DJ. I grew up on the progressive rock movement of the 70s and decided it's finally time to check out some modern prog!! Please join me on this journey and enjoy/discover along with me.

Guthrie Govan's guitar solo in this song is my favorite from the 21st century, hands down. Nobody can shred while remaining highly musical and emotional like Guthrie.

This album - Raven That Refused To Sing .. and next one - Hand Cannot Erase .. are with no doubt the best modern era progressive rock albums. There is nothing better than these two albums, masterpieces as hell, worth checking them out in full listen from start to finish! If you plan to make videos of full album listens sometime, please save these two for that, you won't regret it! Cheers bud ;)

Steven Wilson is another rabbit hole musician. I really enjoy his efforts in collaborating with other artists as well as Solo & P.T. stuff. His collaboration with FISH (Sunsets on Empire Lp) turned out very well. One of Fish's better solo efforts. Worth checking out. FISH with his original band Marillion is a must checkout. Marillion with Steve Hogarth is definitely worth your time as well. Great reaction!! Glad you enjoyed your first Wilson listen. Glad you're back after a busy break. 😎👍

SW has so much great work. Apart from the other recommendations, I'd add No Twilight in the Courts of the Sun from his first solo release. Both very jazzy and heavy, with killer drums and bassline. I'm an old metalhead who 'graduated' into more prog-oriented music as i got older. Discovered many of the groups you've played here back in 2014 and am not looking back!

Great album, and that guitar solo was a first take with an E string that had jumped it's saddle! Do yourself a favor though and watch the video, and do the same for "Routine" ,and " The Raven That Refused To Sing". Their too good to ignore....

Fun reaction - thanks! This entire album is special, and every track has its own unique personality. As mentioned elsewhere, a full album listen lets the songs flow into each other, and the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. Luminol was the SW track that first got me on board... but it's The Watchmaker that really ticks all my favorite proggy boxes. Cheers!

:( you didn't watch the video. That's half the value of this song. They were made to go together. Same for "The Raven that refused to sing" and "Routine" Those three, you need the animated video with each. Everything else he does, Live is a must.

I wouldn't say that they necessarily need to go together, I find that one of the best things about this album is how standout each song is with or without the videos, very emotionally powerful, however I do think that while not needed for the experience, the animations are superb and definitely add to the emotional impact of the tracks.

As I've said in previous videos, I always like to start with the studio versions of a song first and just listen to really get a sense of the artist's intent. Love watching live stuff and will revisit some of the live versions of all these eventually, but that's just my process. Appreciate the listen and feedback! Thanks for stopping by!

@@ophreacts214 The accompanying video for this song is not live. It's the studio version of the song and the video is done in breathtaking stop motion animation and really should be watched, for added enjoyment and context.

You should give a try to Shadow Gallery. I recommend the combo Cliffhanger 1 & 2, or First Light.

This is one of the best band lineups I've ever seen. There are some great live recordings of this album and the next one. The Watchmaker, Holy Drinker and Luminol (released on the previous live album, with Niko Tsonev on the guitar)!! Check them out!!

Great reaction. But you said 'pretty song'. Watch the animated video and you'll realise it's about [SPOILER ALERT] a guy haunted by the memory of killing his partner in a vehicle accident. Still an awesome song, but SO sad.
