Would be nice to see Gavin play with Steven again tho. Porcupine Tree was amazing before Gavin joined but their music was immediately made even more amazing because of him
@@captaindeadeye788 Even though I like PT, it doesn't beat this. I think there's a reason Raven That Refused to Sing and Hand Cannot Erase are Steven's best work ever. The band he had was near perfect.
@@securityman6666 Now imagine a band this good...with two drummers like him. Good news, that band exists. They're called King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
+thiagotecnico lol.. bro.. you need to expand your musical pallet. Bass is crucial on almost any song.. why do you think a bass is included in just about every genre of music, but not other instruments. ;-)

Robert Stofa Because as a bassist I normally feel like not important for those non-musician people. "the guy with the other guitar" you know what i mean...
+Robert Stofa some time ago I saw a video where they cut the bass off the mix of a song extract and then put it back so you could see the difference it makes, that was astonishing to hear what bands sound like without bass guitar
I think that 10 years from now most people will realize that this was a great era in Progressive Music, led by Steven Wilson. His music incorporates much older, classic stuff from 70s/80s, and at the same time it feels as if his music is way ahead of time. Brilliant musician.
@@psychodelian Oh I think this kind of music will last... But not just Porcupine Tree, the entire Prog genre is a huuuge hidden gem, and one day the world will realise it. Probably not in ten years though, more likely in a 100. Untill than, we, as unknown fans from unknown bands, will continue to preach our children, friends and family the true gospel of Prog, so that it is able to exist for eternity, going from generation to generation(May Pink Floyd be our inspiration). Existing bands like Dream Theater, The Pineapple Thief, Riverside, SW's solo-albums which are almost as good as Porcupine Tree... They will be acknowledged for their true greatness one day, since their music is more than just a message or just a tune, it's a true art, it's pure heart but at the same time extremely technically skillfull and hard to recreate, it's everything combined in all. The flock is just blind yet. One day they will see.
Nick Beggs on bass is brilliant! The man is a superstar that rocks Fretless and plays the Chapman Stick! No wonder he has been playing with Wilson for years! His background vocals, playing and overall stage presence adds to every show or album Steven does! Love Nick with Steven!
+Al Schuppe Oh, I thought that was Pipi Longstockings on bass. (You'd think that someone like me, who came of age in the 60's would refrain from making jokes about a musician's hair... but, if you thought that, you'd be wrong.)He is good, though.
+Protagonist That is so great! Those guys are so talented and yet I bet they're humble and great to chat with, from what you say. It's a small world - I'm in the US but I now listen to Steven Wilson and his band's music more often than most other bands. I was 'introduced' to their music by someone here chatting on RU-vid. Really amazing. Take care my friend.
I have had the privilege of seeing Porcupine Tree in Melbourne Australia twice, and both times I was totally impressed with how down to earth Steven Wilson was. The fact they brought the whole touring band, (inc John Wesley) with all their own gear, to a reasonably small show, demonstrates the attitude toward the music and the fans. I would say that Steven Wilson is not only a rare talent, but genuinely respects his audience.
The whole song is a masterpiece... I cant believe its been two years since it came out... Ugh but that part from 8:38 to 10:03... It just gives me goosebumps... Its my fave part of Luminol Steven Wilson is just a musical genius. Period.
@@pinkraven4402 Hell yeah those have some of the best moments in music, ever! I gotta add the last guitar solo from Dream Theaters Octavarium to that list though!
Here we all are born into a struggle To come so far but end up returning to dust Oxfam panache and tips his hat (laces undone) He has no truck with idle chat (work to be done) The songs he learned from scratched LPs Stops in mid-flow to sip his tea He strums the chords with less than grace (songs we all know) Each passing year etched on his face (sun, rain or snow) The words he sings are not his own They speak of things he'll never know
steve wilson is undoubtably one of if not the greatest rock composers ever way more complex and melodious gifted composers of all time his complexity and and self taught musicianship is mind boggling hes truly will be remembered as as. one of the greatest ever what a genious he truly is
Nobody seemed to have mention the drummer Marco Minnemann. Hi is precise, crisp he is amazing. Played in numbers of incredible groups... He is doing here what he always does, plays great music ... (o:
Posłuchałem ich ostatniej płyty - naprawdę kapitalne granie i bardzo dużo melotronu. Dzięki wielkie za polecenie, bo jestem pewny, że polubię się z zespołem Anekdoten.
@@chrissmith3668 Nno. I went off subject of Wilson to a drummer kinda like Gavin but more rock jazz. Marc played on Shockwave Supernova by satriani as well as the crats.
Steven Wilson is for me one of the most interesting musicians of the modern music scene, his broad musical culture allows him to compose music with many facets ... Moreover he is a guitarist of high flight, a singer of great talent, in the current lack of creativity, Steven reconnects with his predecessors of the 1970s ... filled with creativity. I send him all my friendships and admiration! (a professional drummer-composer and French drummer who played with great musicians (Etienne M'Bappé, Guy N'Sangué, Rhoda Scott, David Jacob and many other artists)
I love watching this live. Everyone of those musicians are world class and steven wilson is like an 8 year old kid playing in his room directing the music with his actions. A real maestro. Its beautiful to watch.
There’s just something magical about seeing Steven play… You just feel the beats of everything he and his team plays like you’re playing it with them. It’s a full body experience.
Me and my friend has on several occasions laughed merrily at the goofyness in beggining of Adam's solo at 2:52 - found it incredibly funny in a good way.
One of my all time favourite Steven Wilson songs that has influences ranging from King Crimson to Jethro Tull to Yes Rush and many of the classic jazz fusion sounds of the 70s / 80s but it stil sounds very exciting and fresh. This is a band of true stars and they deliver an epic live performance for the ages. Nothing but love and respect for these amazing players.
Can't. Get. Enough. So much talent. Priveleged and truly honored to have discovered PT primarily and then love his solo work just as much. Steven never ceases to amaze me!
I'm 61 and prog rocker from an era of ELP, Yes, King Crimson, Todd Rundgren's Utopia, Gentle Giant, Tull and on and on. These type groups set the stage for great musicians like Steve Wilson. Fortunately, technology has caught up with some of the groups I mentioned, so they can still play their classics on par with groups like Wilson's, who have been able to play with newer tech since they started. Add it all up and prog never faded, it's the non prog audiences who now get it.
NEW Progressive Rock at its' best... A little melancholy at times, but Steven Wilson is like that.. A Miles Davis Keyboardist, Marco Minneman on Drums, a Modern Virtuoso... The Guitarist was later replaced in a bold but brilliant move, by the GREAT Guthrie Govan. Look him up...
Aaron Kennedy The guitarist niko tsonev is a class in itself, he's no virtuoso like Guthrie but got some tasty tricks up his sleeve and is very soulful in his playing.
Mr W does it again, a sort of mix of jaz/funk fusion Soft Machine,Camel and of cxourse Steven Wilson ,I thought the game was up when Floyd retired, but this is Next Level.
Steven Wilson doing precise works all the time. It is quite transcadental includes different consecutive moods completing an overall musical form together with successful parade of instruments.
The first thing that occurred to me in the first minute & a half of this was that Steven has been listening to Ozric Tentacles! Such a brilliant, incredible musician...and that band of his is out of this WORLD.
What a beautiful piece. I've listened to this live version over and over, and it never grows old, a bit like Steven! The whole barefoot persona is a homage to his childhood where he disliked wearing shoes or socks at home. It's such a silly thing to nitpick at...he's an artist. In the truest sense. Still in his prime at 45, rocking out and pushing boundaries to spectacular effect. I whole-heartedly believe we haven't heard his best work yet.
This is so great!!!!!!!! It reminds me of times when band were not afraid to do out of the normal realm!! It's all about music, the universal language!!! reminds me of classical with movements to play on emotions,
