I’m glad to see others here listening, on this day of Jeff’s passing! I’ve never seen/heard this before today! They both are enjoying their jam together here…let’s hope they’ve found each other again today…this is awesome!!!
Yes. The contribution to musical excellence that these two unselfishly gave us will always be a source of amazement. Passion is the fuel, the price of admission and the least we can do is to honor them eternally.
@@glassover6420 As much as i love SRV. He was the 2nd best on that stage on this video. And i am not a Beck fan. SRV was great. But he is not at the top of the guitar mountain. There is only room for 1 at the top. JMH would be that 1. He tops any and every guitar poll. Any poll that is taken by the people that play music. The famous big names. They all say Hendrix was better than anyone. Who am i to disagree with people that know much more than i do.
Jeff said in an interview that this tour with Stevie was one of his favorites of all time and that Stevie always brought out the best in his playing....🎸🎸🎸
Not many guitarists who could keep up with or plausibly upstage Jeff Beck, but SRV was one of them. That was simply jaw dropping. That quote makes a lot of sense, if you aren't bringing your A+ game, SRV would just make you look silly.
@@papa_pt I didn't say that he did, I said that it was "plausible". Yes, a very unlikely scenario, but not impossible to imagine. Nobody is going to outplay SRV in his genre. Does Jeff Beck have more "chops" overall? Probably, but if you take on SRV in his arena, you venture in at your peril.
Stevie had basically one tone, albeit a great one, whereas Jimi often used many different tones in within one song. That being said, I have always considered Ritchie Blackmore' tone, especially during his solos, on the Made in Japan album the best Strat sound.
@@JayMcBride-el5er I love the MIJ tone. Stevie did have “one tone” but really he had many different versions of that tone and it’s sometimes thicker or thinner but ik what you mean
I saw this tour at MSG in NYC. When the show ended I ran uptown and caught the Parliament blues festival. Fabulous t-birds were on the bill, so to pretty much nobody's surprise, Jeff and Stevie walked out for their set. Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Stevie, Jeff, and the t-birds as "the backup band" for a roughly hour long finale set... yeah, that's what life could toss you in the late 80s, lol
My all-time favorite video of Jeff Beck on-stage. He and Stevie look like they're having the time of their lives in this one. If everyone could look THIS happy when they are 'doing their thing', it'd be a pretty amazing world. RIP Jeff Beck.
This is awesome and the best to hear that he had the most fun with Stevie because there wasn't any rules, perhaps this is the secret that Hendrix also had , just to be able to cut loose yet hit the right note every time R.I.P guitar hero Jeff Beck
I haven't heard anyone explain it like that as: "most eccentric and unworldly guitar players." Hendrix would also have to be included in that catagory . I think you nailed it on the head.
You k ow not the judgement of God. There is a GOD. and its time for all of us to get right with him. Praise the name of our heavenly creator. The LORD of heaven and earth.
RIP Jeff Beck (June 24, 1944 - January 10, 2023), aged 78 And RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan (October 3, 1954 - August 27, 1990), aged 35 You both will always be remembered as legends.
I have been playing guitar for 30 years. There’s no way I would follow Stevie Ray Vaughan’s solo in this. I would just nod for him to take another. He was on fire.
Jeff is in a league by himself. As Clapton said he pulls sounds out of the air. Loved to play with others he respected and SRV was one of those. He never tried to outdo another guitarist he played with. Class act.
@@robertlopez1757 There are many great players, but very few innovators. Jeff Beck was an innovator! NO ONE could sound like him, can't really say that about any other guitarist.
WOW!! One of the VERY few people who could ever share a stage with Stevie and not be embarrassed. Jeff's hand shake and Stevie's grab showed TRUE respect from both. Glad I found this.
I love Jeff Beck's solo here. He knows how to say a lot in the shortest amount of time, and he doesnt try to say what's been said before except to accentuate the hook.
What a performance. One of the things I've noticed about SRV's playing is just how effortlessly his huge talent comes to him. He normally makes it look easy. You can see how hard he's working next to Jeff, and you can feel the huge admiration. SRV is famously a graduate of the Hendrix school, but you can tell that Jeff was a hero of his too, and he is absolutely playing his face off, as we all would next to a hero we admire. It's Jeff here who looks effortless, flowing like water to Stevie's fire. Both of them playing for each other, both of them having the time of their lives. I'm glad that both of them lived this life of joyous music, and I'm only sad that they're gone. RIP, gentlemen.
There has never been and probably never will be another guitarist that plays with grace and fluidity of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Jeff Beck is legendary, and as skilled as can be, but Stevie just had that something that put him over everybody else.
In my almost 12 years of playing i see only 2 types of players; the technical ones and the soulful ones. I believe SRV is more of a soul type who lets out what is in him instead of maybe preparing beforehand. I mean dont get me wrong you rehearse stuff but in soloing and just being on stage its very different from practice time and when you're on stage thats when SRV lets out his true colors unscripted. Only thing important is he has to be in the proper key and everything else follows his command on stage.
I agree. Stevie had something special that can't be described with words. It's more like a feeling that runs through you. I get very excited when I hear Stevie play. God I miss him
Yes yes, two of the best right there and you could tell they were having a blast. I do have to say though, keep your eye on this person. Taj Farrant. He's from Australia and he's only 10 yrs old. Seriously if you have never heard him play, do yourself a favor and just listen to him once. What will he be like at 20 yrs old??? check it.....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-87eB1ttgZSE.html
I had numerous conversations with Stevie during all the years I lived in Austin. He was a wonderful guy with no ego whatsoever. He had a singular focus - guitar. He was like a sponge - he studied every blues recording out there and absorbed all of it. He was like a living lexicon of blues licks. He was so great because he played the hell out of his guitar every day of his life. "If the House is a Rockin" sums it up. You could hear him from the street any day of the week - if he was home, he was playing, If he wasn't home, he was playing.
@@raoulduke344 - I have always been very partial to Alvin Lee. Now keep in mind I said "favorites" and not meaning who I believe have been the top three best ever.
@@pebblehilllanePersonal favourites are better than arguing over who's the top three, I think. Everyone has a different list, and you have some great "favourites".
SRV was in awe of Jeff Beck.Listen to SRVs horrific thin sound and boring scales then listen to Becks! SRV is very predictable while Beck is Beck . An original.Stevie always wore cools hats though. Ill give him that.
Two of the greatest guitar players I’ve ever seen. Stevie Ray Vaughan will always be my favorite guitar player. One thing I’ve always respected about Stevie ray is he never showed up other guitar players. Jeff Beck is a great guitar player. This is the moment that people witnessed greatness. Rest in peace both of them. I still cry today thinking about Stevie Ray Vaughan‘s death. My heart hurts when I had heard Jeff Beck passed away as well.
Um "Ain't Gonna Give Up on Love", the Mann Music Center live recording June or July 1986 I believe it is. Officially released (audio only...now I would KILL...).
There were guitarists. Then there was Stevie Ray Vaughn. Never, Ever did I hear anything that literally brought me to tears EVERYTIME I heard Stevie play!! This man was a force of nature that there isn't definition for. Words cannot describe what he brought us with his raw , mind numbing talent. This was a gift sent from heaven and it's to heaven he's returned.
@@crouchingtiger9108 Facts, SRV is great but lets face it most of his style is straight out of Jimi Hendrix's book, but in a good way. I've always thought of him like a hybrid of Hendrix and Jonny Winter. Beck is unique on a whole different level
You've got to understand, the crap being produced today is blindly accepted as music. THIS is music, people! And as a sidebar, rap IS NOT music. Any genre of music (country, gospel, rock, boogie-woogie, classical, etc.) can be played on the piano or hummed. Try humming a rap "song". Can't be done!
@Emperor- I agree. Rap is like percussion. There are truly great drummers, but when you really look at it, they can't even play Jingle Bells on a set of drums. It really isn't true music.
EmperorGluteusMaximus rap IS music to me though. I like Eminem and Srv. Why is it such an issue with people? Why do you dictate what is and what isn't music?
@@petezereeah517 Percussion alone not music? Ever heard John Bonham tell the story of Moby Dick though drums alone? Tell me this here isn't "music"! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r9-42mu1D9Y.html
Master playing by Stevie Ray Vaughn, look Stevie's guitar sound is so iconic. He can be behind a curtain playing with 5 different guitarists and you will immediately know it is the man himself , Stevie Ray Vaughn.
RIP SRV and Jeff Beck. I saw them play together in 1989 at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles. This was the exact song they did together for the encore. It was amazing to see them play together!
Two guitar virtuoso's in their own right. I was blessed to be at the show before this one.. 1st set Jeff Beck did "Guitar Shop" then 2nd set SRV, 3rd set together, encore Stevie did Hendrix(Voodoo Child, R U Experienced that flowed right into 3rd Stne from the Sun) I'm still speachless!
There both amazing guitarists in there own way... But Jeff Becks career and the way he never settled for a certain style is refreshing...listen too the albumn truth or blow by blow for some classic Jeff beck....Srv is amazing I feel he was evolving as a guitarist before his accident...give Rivera paradise a listen from his last albumn he wasn't just a bluesman played some beautiful jazz too.... Keep good music alive everyone !!!
I don't respect uneducated opinions on here, so no need to give mine. But, Clapton and B.B. King said Stevie Ray Vaughan was the best guitar player they ever saw....and that's good enough for me.
+Latissimus Dorsi You're right...you're always right. You have always been right. Now get the fuck out of here in this place where people can appreciate guitar.
+Latissimus Dorsi Was it Jeff Beck who said, on seeing Hendrix, "Well, that's it; the game's up. We've been rumbled! What the fuck are we supposed to do now - go drive trucks?"?
Jeff Beck is a great guitar player, but Stevie was a monster. His command of the guitar, his ability to improvise and keep the song intact, not get lost in mindless noodling is just astonishing. I shake my head in disbelief every time I heart him.
A lot of people don't understand what it means that he strung his guitars with .013 strings. His physical strength was *enormous*. Monstrous. I knew him back in 1984. He used to let me play the Strat that you see in this video -- except that I really couldn't. I could barely bend a note a half-step on that thing.
Crankin this in memory of Stevie Ray Vaughan on Stevie's 68th birthday. You are missed SRV. Thank you for your great music and outstanding memories like this one. You were 100% straight fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥 R.I.P.
2 guitar icons playing together and the music is epic 🎉🎉. The sound is definitely unique and the style is classic. This experience is definitely priceless 🎉🎉
First time I've ever seen or heard Stevie really cut loose when sharing the stage with someone else - goes to show just how good Jeff Beck is, and how much Stevie must have respected him!
I saw these two at the Worcester MA Centrum during this tour which happened just months before SRV's helicopter went down I believe. The local paper had a preview story in advance of the concert where they interviewed both guys. They were exceedingly complimentary towards each other but SRV really went out of his way to admit Beck was technically a far superior player than he ever was. I thought that demonstrated an incredible amount of class and lack of ego from one guitar god to another. That concert ranks up in my top five of all time and this song, in which they both played, brought the house down for the finale.
I WAS AT THIS SHOW!!!!! I always see other people say that, and finally someone posted something I saw live! And, not only that, but out of the close to 300 pro groups I've seen, that night goes down as my favorite guitar performance. Too bad the entire encore song, "Going Down" isn't here. The song contained yet another barrage of solo's between Stevie & Jeff, but hopefully the entire concert will be released some day. That evening was Stevie Ray's 3rd anniversary for being clean and sober. He testified by word and by axe. A fire axe cause he was on fire!! As for Jeff - Incredible!! It was his "Guitar Shop" tour and the sounds and screaming solos were all there. He even broke a Strat for good measure!! It was as if the spirit of Hendrix filled the entire night.... Anyhow, THANK YOU SRVMusicVideo FOR SHARING!!!!!!!!
I was at this show too!!Had the pleasure of seeing SRV 15 times in 5 years, with the first show at the Aragon Ballroom with Albert Collins in '84( drove my dads Pinto to the show ta 16yrs old) and Bluesfest in '85 and also at Legends with Buddy in'89. Was at Legends the night b4 he died and Dave Mason, Buddy Miles and Willie Dixon jammed with Buddy. All night Buddy said "he'll be here" and at the end of the night Buddy said "I guess i'll have to go get him" Love Ya SRV!!!!
Thank you, Jim for your message. I appreciate your story about Buddy Miles. Buddy was a personal friend and I wasn't aware of the Mason, Miles & Dixon jam. I bet that was awesome!! I sure miss my 'ol Buddy. Guess I'll have to go get him some day. Rest easy Stevie Ray & Buddy.
dulcimerz2drumstix man! That's just killer guitar man! Your mind must have been blown away that night! Just the intensity level itself would ensure that You would never be the same after that!! Thanks For sharing that ! Very inspirational!
Stevie Ray Vaughn was brilliant. I didn't appreciate him as much as I should have growing up in this era. I was a Clapton, Page and Eddie VH fan, but somehow I missed Stevie. I've got him now.
Everytime I think I've found someone better or as good as SRV, I find shit like this. It started with me digging into Jeff Beck. I found Walter Trout an hour later. And now I'm back to Jeff, but back HOME to Stevie
SRV was just incredible and beck as great as he is just doesnt get it done.SRV had that guitar smoking,i mean its truly amazing to watch a guy do that live..Has he ever missed a lick on that guitar?he was something very special and imo the greatest guitar player ever!..Just imagine if he would have lived another 30 years what he would have done..thats the sad part..SRV was just getting started..same with hendrix..my god the music they both would have made with age would have been awesome..Anyway fly on SRV..
He was an incredible, invincible and unstoppable force of nature. The good lord must be having a good time with Stevie playing the guitar next to him. An electric angel. Amen brother!
"He was an incredible, invincible and unstoppable force of nature." I like this summary. He is like a hurricane category 5. Beyond any imagination. Fascinating and frightening simultaneously.
I love how Stevie just has an encyclopedic knowledge of every known blue lick and either peppers them in between phrases or links them together to make longer phrases with such an incredible amount of taste that you never notice he’s doing it. Stevie isn’t doing anything new, but nobody before or since did it so well.
I was lucky enough to see this tour in L.A. at the Sports Arena. Don't forget Terry Bozzio on drums (With Jeff Beck) as well. SRV really showed me something about the blues that night.
I am new to RU-vid, but just wanted to say I was at the L.A. Sports Arena show also. I consider myself very fortunate to have seen both JB and SRV jamming that night. I remember KLOS asked everyone to drive with their lights on, the day after SRV's death, to honor and remember him. I drove from West L.A. to Alhambra with my lights on and SRV in the tape deck. RIP
