I was lucky enough to see him live two weeks before his passing and it's been the one concert I'll remember the rest of my life.. His opener was another excellent guitar player, "Jeff Beck" and to end the show the two of them came back out and played for nearly another hour as if it was just for us....

I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The next morning was one of the saddest days of my life. The lineup was Eric Clapton, SRV, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy.

Written by Stevie for his good friend Charlie...i think he made his guitars...thats why he changes his guitar at the start to the white one thats called "Charlie" in his honour. The words are beautiful..."angels have waited for so long...now they have their way..." makes me sad coz it cud equally apply to Stevie...on his gravestone is "thankyou for all the love you passed our way..." another line in this song...love it but makes me sad ...its so amazing from a guy totally self taught & couldnt write or read music (like most greats!) Btw he lost tooth doing the teeth plucking lol but carries on regardless...a true pro...miss u stevie 💞☹🤟🏼 Great reaction btw 👍

You're right that Charley made his guitars. He had a shop called Charley’s Guitars here in Dallas.

@UCS3n99Z2IFK45_7oRYnaf0A Charley Wirz passed away in 1985. It was just reported that he passed suddenly. Every time I would see Stevie in concert, when he got to that song it would make me cry. There was so much emotion in that song. And after Stevie passed that song had that strong emotion for me. Oh! By the way! Charley’s Guitars shop is still open and running in Dallas.

I love SRV, but only just discovered this particular song today. I read a bit about the story behind this song -- that Stevie wrote it in honor of his friend, Charlie, who passed. It's a beautiful song, and glad I finally discovered it. I love his philosophy of life. It's one that I believe too -- I think we're here on Earth to learn to love and help one another. We are ALL brothers and sisters in the eyes of God. As for all the tricks Stevie does with his guitar -- I can only think that playing guitar was like breathing to Stevie. Something he didn't even have to THINK about -- he just did it masterfully. To ME, Stevie Ray Vaughan was, is, and always WILL be, the ultimate guitar god.

Stevie could not read music. This is pure natural talent. He played by ear, so the guitar switch required adjustments to both the string and amp to sound just right for him. Maybe knowing this will help you to appreciate this legend even more.

YOU are in the presence of a True Legend (a word overused - but not in his case)... among the greatest to ever to play/sing blues, and perhaps, no better guitarist. A humble soul, who walked among us - too briefly. The deep... poignant emotions he felt, came through on that Strat... unfiltered, amazing... otherworldly.

Just resubscribed for SRV. Your reaction was great!!! Did you notice he changed guitars at the beginning? And most importantly, after he played with his teeth, he grins to his crew off stage and mouths...lost my tooth....gone! And grins again. He also looks like he is looking down to try to find his tooth where he spit it out after he played w his teeth. But he just kept on going. Finished the song. I think he is amazing.

When he was reaching at the amps he was cranking them to 10. When an electric guitar plays a note through a properly loud tube amp, the frequency from the speakers vibrates the string, which loops back through the speaker, which let's you hold notes forever and do other feedback stuff.

I had the honor of watching SRV play this about 2 months before this performance. As a young 17 year old kid that thought he knew a little something about the blues I soon realizet that he was the real deal. SRV was the inspiration that got me and a whole bunch of young kids back into the blues. I have never before or since that day been left speechless after a show.

Did you catch Stevie calling for a new guitar at 2:05 and literally seamlessly swap it mid-verse with the help of his tech at 2:20?... He started with the RED Strat and switched to the WHITE one that barely made it through the abuse by the end of the song. The input cord swap between uninterrupted notes was ridiculous.

At about the 4:25 mark, y'all appeared to think he was making sociable gestures to someone off-camera; nope. He was still making adjustments to account for the unexpected guitar swap, reaching out, tweaking knobs to get just the right sound. He was a consummate guitarist and performer, he wasn't going to let a little thing like that mess up his show. RIP, SRV.

People who see these old performances of Stevies always ask why the audience at his shows back then looked lame and unimpressed at the greatness of the talent they/we were watching..we were just as memorized as you guys are now , AND we were witnessing greatness LIVE and then you add the volume and sound that literally made our bodies vibrate..ask anyone who saw him live , the ground was vibrating under our feet when he played. We were not the same people walking out as we were going in. I was at Alpine Valley for his last concert and believe me , were blessed to have seen that show because when I got up the next day it was on the news that he was killed in the helicopter crash when they were leaving, and I remember how I mentioned to the people I was there with the night before how foggy it was because it was so hot and humid in August. The venue itself was a ski resort so it had alot of hills and valleys that wouldn't have been easy to see. So that's my Stevie story.♥️

Everyone talks about the guitar swap or how he lost a tooth but no one talks about the way Stevie is controlling the feedback on this performance. That’s what sets this solo apart from all the others. Now I’m not saying he’s the only one that’s done it, but the only other example of a guitarist controlling feedback like that was Jimi Hendrix playing the star spangled banner at Woodstock. But that was some next level shit
