Hey Jamel, can you have a split screen.. That small window looks real small on the phones.. You have a lot of dead space on the right side of screen just showing your desk.. Just my 2 cents buddy.✌
The Capitol Theater, Passaic NJ September 1985. This is where I saw Metallica with Metal Church opening in November 1986. 9th show ever with Jason Newstead.
He was so humble and appreciated everything he had and was willing to help out anyone that really needed any help no matter who you was . He is sadly gone but his music and message will live on.
Yes, yes, yes, Jamel! SRV IS an underrated singer. His voice was 1) pitch perfect, and 2) perfect for his music. SRV has an incredible voice, a beautiful voice!
If everyone could've been there, Stevie could've ended racism and every other hate crime with that song. Tunes like that will have you feeling some type a way. You can't hate and be able to play with that much feeling.
This always brings tears to my eyes. I got into SRV in the summer. He taught how to play my guitar with soul and feeling. I only ever listen to Stevie and Elvis. Best thing is I’m a teen and have my whole life to listen and discover people like this.
I’m 59 years old and so glad I lived during the time to experience Stevie and of course many other greats my life as far as music goes has been wonderful. I really feel blessed. Music is very spiritual to me.
This particular performance never ever gets old, and always brings me to tears. SRV is not music. He is and was a pure channel. SRV is a life-altering experience to behold, and to thank the Lord for giving him to us to take in. Thank You Jamal. And of of course, Thank you SRV.
I'll always remember waking up to news that Stevie died in a helicopter crash after a concert. It was the first time I ever cried over a musician's death.
I've been waiting since your first reaction to SRV to hear this song and this exact performance just to hear your response to that message. The song is already my favorite. But the message is ETERNAL.Edit: One thing I want to add here; For historical context, his speech mid song was based around Apartheid in South Africa "The mother country, down south." It still applies to everyone everywhere.
This is my favorite Stevie Ray song , just for his message. I play it on repeat whenever I’m having a bad day. 30 years after his passing, the message is still current and an honest reminder. It just lifts me when my heart hurts. You channel does the same. Thank you for your kindness, and heart.
The guitar swap in the beginning when his original guitar went flat was amazing. He never skipped a beat. That took talent. The world was robbed of so much epic music when he passed at the young age of 35. RIP Stevie Ray!
I got to see him play live when I was18. I was never the same after. It was a huge impact on my life. What a great message. It can just bring you to tears.
I love Stevie’s voice! This song gives me all the feels. I wish I could have met him and told him how much I love his music. I don’t feel this way about any other artist but I feel like it would have mattered to him. I feel like he wanted to connect with your soul through his music.
Wish you could have seen him live, Jamel. The guy permanently changed how my ears work, so I know you'd still be feeling it. I remember at 24 hearing the news that he died, just a month or so after seeing him for the 2nd time. Even at 56 I still can't get over it. I hadn't seen this one before, but it's now my second fave performance of his, only behind Tightrope on Austin City Limits. He made that guitar grow HAIR in front of the camera.
Stevie's brother, Jimmie shared your opinion on his voice being underrated/overshadowed by his amazing guitar skills. He didn't think Stevie got enough credit for being a damn fine blues singer.
Grew up in Ft.Worth tx. One night I was partying with friends in Haltom city and this song came on 98.9 KZEW ,it was love struck baby. It just blew me away . So glad I got to see him 3 times. Steve's music is music for the soul. There will never be another. RIP Steve you are truly missed.
This has to be the top performance live of all time . Notice the guitar swap early, broken string, broken tooth ,and a brilliant message. My personal favorite of his .
Saw him several times during this era…once with his bro’s band, The Fab T-birds…ended up on Jimmy’s shoulders, guitar behind his back…ON his brother’s shoulders:-). Feel fortunate to have seen this mastery live
This is SRV at his most vulnerable and humble, clean happy and wanting to share what his near-death bout w substances had taught him. He was on his way to being one of our blues statesmen (he already was to me) when fate cruelly took him from all of us. This song gets me every time, takes me right back to the welding shop I was working in when I heard he was gone.... all I could do is sit on the floor next to the beam I was working on and weep Such an amazing human being !!!!
I actually had the opportunity to see Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1985 and let me tell you it was (and is) one of, if not the BEST show I have EVER seen!! And I've seen a LOT of concerts in my time... nowadays I have young guys asking me what it was like to see him live...almost like I used to ask older guys when I was young what it was like to see Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin.... I actually feel bad for them because they never had the chance...and you can watch all the RU-vid videos you want but to be in the same room as the real deal when it's happening is something that you can't describe because it's going on right in front of you...words will never do it justice...
Welcome aboard my brother Jamal ! I grew up on this stuff , I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan with Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton right before he died. It's something you never forget ! ✌️🔥
I remember seeing SRV perform, probably about the same year as this. This song was the highlight of the show, which is saying something. During the final solo, they turned off the stage lights, except for spot on Stevie, and he held his guitar straight up pointing to the sky, spinning, like a dervish. It was so dramatic and jaw - dropping.
I know many folks have already said all the gymnastics he went through in this performance (losing a tooth and so forth) - but heck yeah, I agree: his message is straight up. He was always real as hell. He had them rough years struggling with things, and then he pulled out of em and got even more positive. Right when he was reaching a new peak he left us. I remember as a kid when that happened, and I was gutted. I really wish he'd have gotten to stick around longer, he would've done some more great things.
Notice how Stevie kept going back to his amps to adjust the sound? It sounded great to us, but Stevie's ears were impeccable. He picked up something he didn't like and he had to fix it 'cause he gave his ALL in every performance.
This song always reminds me that Stevie had a knowing that he was not going to live long. He did this song for all us remaining here without him. I believe he could tap into the universal energies and they sent him his gifts. He could hear them and feel their vibrations.
Stevie Ray outstanding performer even better human being. Thanks, Jamel, for that video and reaction. Stevie's music just doesn't ever get old. Jamel, I'd encourage you to check out a group - unusual name - but some unbelievable music - Band-Maid the song (music video) Daydreaming. Enjoy!
I've surfed around to all these reactions of this particular performance and others of SRV and I think I like yours the best. Not because you are impressed by the showmanship of playing behind his back etc, but you seem to follow his passion and melodic content. (as well as his message, in this case). Good job.
You’ve got to check out “Tick Tock” by The Vaughan Brothers. It’s from Stevie and his older brother Jimmie’s album “Family Style”. It’s got several great tracks on it. Also, a few artists to check out: Ian Moore, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Doyle Bramhall ll.
Send this message out in the world ........ Sadly I only like to give..... Be safe Brother.... You are making a difference! Just be a good human.... You are one!
It was near my 20th bday spring of 90. I was in technical school. A bunch of guys at school were trying to convince me and a friend to see Stevie. I uttered these words. "That guy is talentless". May 20 yr old me rot in hell for that. A few months later he was lost. Within a year I fell in love with the blues. Stevie...please forgive me! I know not what I said. RIP maestro. Thanks for grounding me in every song.
back in the day yall he would play outdoors on Town Lake here in Austin and this sound would echo through the streets of South Austin. beautiful thing to hear
You know as well as I do, Jamal. The message has always been the same, but, it doesn't mean anything, if it never gets delivered. Your message is delivered, every time, by the truth written on your face. You couldn't hide it, if you tried. That's why, when you look around, we surround you, and whether you like it or not, you are part of the fold. Respected and loved, welcomed and embraced, the prodigal son or daughter, never allowed, to wander to far from the protection, of the flock. You are loved and appreciated; don't forget. 🍀
When I was learning how to play guitar in high school (1990s), I wanted to be just like Stevie Ray Vaughan. I learned how to play my electric guitar behind my back and above my head. I tried playing with my teeth, but that was painful.
This is my favorite version of this song. The seamless guitar swap is epic. He just goes to another planet with his solo, and yeah, his voice is very underrated.
Often overlooked He lost a tooth and said over to the stage after...."I lost it" about 9 min into the video or so Plus he swapped guitars at the start and never even missed a beat. Who does that? Obviously Stevie does. Much love for this review, an all-time favorite of mine.
Even the great guitarist Eric Clapton said of SRV, he was jealous of his playing, because it just flowed, EC, said he had to constantly think about how he was going to play, SRV, already knew ahead of time how he was going to play without hesitantation.
Love it that SRV can continue to play and sing while switching guitars...this is the second video where he changes guitars while performing. RIP spiritual SRV.
This song was written by Stevie in dedication to his guitar tech that passed away from a drug overdose.Musically this song is influenced by Jimi Hendrix's 'bold as love'...check that one out Jamal if you get a chance!!
I have not heard back from to know if you eversaw my message to you. Stevie bought his #1 guitar from Ray Hennings guitar shop. In an interview with Ray he said that the former owner of #1 was Christopher Cross! I have a picture of him standing next to #1 in the museum. If you talk with Christopher again thank him for getting rid of #1!
Did you notice that Stevie broke a string on his red strat around the 3:02 mark and his guitar tech made another seemless transition to the white strat ?
i am french and i discovery your channel homie and really your channel is very very excellent men very very cool god bless you my homie ! greetings from southcenter france
SRV actually chipped a tooth in this performance when he looks over at 11:06 he says to offstage that he chipped a tooth just a small fun fact if someone else has not already mentioned it. Keep up the good work!
I have to say that music the universe language. These music crossover reactions is doing more for race relations than anything I can think of.i have so much respect for you and everyone else doing these.......warms my heart. Good job my man
Have you done Riviera Paradise by SRV yet? If not, you definitely should. His best instrumental, and my personal favorite by him. If you can find the Alpine Valley performance, that was the concert he was leaving the night he died.
You should really listen to Los Lonely Boys. Imagine Stevie and Santana having a baby with little Hendrix, Ritchie Valens, Willie Nelson, and Los Lobos mixed with it. You won’t be disappointed.
His first guitar was not working right so he has to swap it out, and at the end he broke a tooth while playing, and the entire thing is one of his best performance. (and one of the best of all time!).
HA! I was so busy listening, eyes closed, that I missed the guitar change. Around 4 minutes in, I was like, wait, that guitar's white, how'd that happen. lol
You REALLY should check out Tick Tock with him and Jimmy if for nothing else the message of the song. Very uplifting and something that the world is need of.
I can’t seem to find one. Where are you checked out life by the drop by Stevie Ray Vaughan that’s one you should check out it definitely shows off his singing
