Apart from Stevie Ray Vaughan dying far too early, the saddest thing is the fact not enough people in this world have even heard of him or watched his performances. Just over a million views is appalling when you consider some of the absolute crap that gets a billion views. I am pleased to be one of the million+ that can appreciates an absolute genius performing.
@@Birdyblue12 that’s amazing seeing him before he went big. I got the opportunity to do that with “Cigarettes after sex” they’re an alternative band very talented and unique, but I saw them in Dallas in a theater ( general admission first row I was. Now they’re touring Europe and the world. Will see them again when they come back. Highly recommend
I think a lot of people overlook the fact that Stevie was just 29 years old here. To be able to have total control over the guitar and the amount of emotion, feeling and raw power that he was able to command through his instrument was absolutely astonishing at just 29 years of age. He played like he had 70 years of life experiences under his belt. Just incredible. Today we have a lot of sound a likes, a few copy cats but there will only ever be one Stevie Ray Vaughan. He left this world way too soon.
@Paul Odenfield I think you’re right. Just like you said, he would have brought out something completely new and unheard of had he lived longer. He had already taken the blues to another level and was showing no signs of slowing down when he passed. There’s been lot’s of great guitarists over the years but Stevie was special. Have you ever seen a shooting star? You’re lucky if you have because you have be in the right place at the right time and just so happen to be looking at the sky at exactly the right moment to see one. They shoot across the night sky with incredible speed and in a split second they’re gone. Leaving you feeling excited, a little in awe and glad that you were lucky enough to witness it. There’s a lot of phenomenal guitarists out there today who are stars. But Stevie was a shooting star. Those that got to see him play in person were very lucky. They were in the right place at just the right time in history to witness his talent and see a true master at work. Leaving them feeling excited and like they had just witnessed something special. But just like the shooting star… in a flash he was gone. RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan and thank you for lighting up our lives even if it was just for a short time.
@@johndardi1334 "Just like you said, he would have brought out something completely new and unheard of had he lived longer. " He was great but personally I don't believe this to be true. He died at 35. If Malmsteen died after his first album people would be saying the same thing about him. Yet, Yngwie has been a one-trick pony for his entire career. Not to take anything away from Stevie but people usually make their contributions on guitar at a fairly young age. At his death he was still limited to Blues playing. By 35 Eddie Van Halen managed to sound different on every new album and expand his guitar technique. For example, his vibrato bar technique on 5150 is on another level and unlike anything he'd done prior.
For anyone who has to say SRV didn't have a good 'singing voice', I say find me a better voice to match his music. Maybe it wasn't typical, but it fit the mood so well
@@Blues_and_Baseball honey over gravel, as it was often described. Stevie absolutely hated his singing voice. And it's the area he concentrated the most on after he got sober. You could really hear the difference the last few years of his life. He wasn't just shouting (his words not mine) anymore
Without a shadow of a doubt. The dexterity alone is simply outrageous! The Tone he gets from that guitar, He feels the music he doesnt merely play it and man he sings too!!!!
Fr, I tried pulling this off but.. we all know how it goes, either your strumming goes off beat, or a missed fret or your singing goes stumbling around tryna catch up to the rythm. Amazing stuff
One of the best live versions hands down. And to think, he was passed out in a stupper for this concert. Minutes before it was time to go on stage, he wakes up, goes out and puts on one of his greatest shows of his life.
I was told a story that before performances he used to rail two huge lines of coke using a straw in each nostril, pound some jack daniels, and slam a mini bottle of tobasco to get the grit in his voice just right. Sad that he passed so soon after buying into the idea of recovery and getting clean. Dude went from the story above to giving lectures at NA/AA meetings. RIP SRV, best to ever do it.
@@PeterMLadey He was a stand up guy. I read someplace,( it may have been in a comment section on one of his videos) he refused to sign any Autographs whilst attending his A.A. meetings. He would respond, "I'm Stephen, the Alcoholic, not Stephen the Rock Star." That's class in my most humble Op. ❤🙏
@@PeterMLadey I heard that before he went on, he'd swig a couple barrels of diesel, then eat concrete chunks in a bowl of liquid hydrogen, then snort a line of carpet tacks.
@@petergedd9330 his drummer and bass player said he was coked out of his mind during this show and they had to watch him to male sure he didn't fall out from it.
what’s funny about this is that he was out cold and asleep a minute before the show. he finally woke up and played one of the most famous shows of his career. that’s just the kind of guitar player stevie was.
Def great no matter how you hear SRV but I tell people if you never got to see him live or seen the live stuff you've yet to really hear SRV and I'll go as far to say little joints like this are better suited to what SRV amd DT where about those smoky little dive bars with the audience right there getting there faces melted
Guys, I know times are hard, but think about it... this is the music we turn to when we have time to relax after having a few drinks. And we think, "Wow, I wish I was here!" But guys, we were so lucky that this was recorded and it sounds amazing! Just close your eyes with your modern headphones on. It feels like you're here, you know what I mean? Goddamn! All this technology and AI and stuff, but we still come back to this! And it's amazing! I hope you guys are having an incredible time! I love you all! This is what life is about! I love you and I wish we could share this together!
Do the best you can. Play from Your heart. That would make Stevie proud. He would want you to be you. I still play because guys like Stevie would want us guitarists to carry on. Any true musician knows that music is what defines us. It’s a gift never let it go.....always let it grow......do it for Stevie, do it for Jimi, do it for B.B. and never stop until you are called home.🎸🎇
Something about that new rendition at 2:32 which sounds interesting got my attention, the bassist was a bit confused like "SRV you sure this is the song?" Then SRV just jams right back into it with his regular style of the song and the bassist smiles so organically. Beautiful moment.
Tommy Shannon was watching him like a hawk throughout the whole performance. Apparently Stevie did more coke than usual before the show and they were worried he was going to drop.
This is my favorite show ever - I am fortunate to own the DVD. Gives me chills each time hearing the raw energy and passion, music personified. You know you are listening to a true virtuoso when he can take just 3 chords, play a song like nobody else and his hypnotic, trademark style is instantly recognizable.
Random thought...I didn't realize just how small of a guy he was...His stature....But he played like a Giant. It's such a shame, we lost him so soon. I guess, I live in the past too much. After 31 yrs, I just still can't wrap my head around it. Am I crazy?
He was astounding, soulful and kick-ass in everything he did. He became one with his guitar. He was jamming in his head, and could share it with us via his guitar and voice. RIP STEVIE ! KEEP SOURING AND SHINING ❤️🌠🎇
My god his tone is incredible along with the firmness that he plays and the command that he has over the guitar in its entirety.. He had fuckin monster sized hands. Truly amazing, nobody can play quite like him.
SRV is altering the tempo at will and rather than staying locked in, Whipper is following his lead with Tommy in tow. Obviously he did whatever Stevie wanted even if it meant a drastic change in meter. Wild!
I think for me, apart from Clapton, Rory and Nophler, this guy is the ultimate Strat player. So raw and unscripted, and how heavy his strings were 😳, An absolute guitaring genius 👏
Hard to believe when people don't know who SRV is. They just don't know what their missing. Never been anybody like him ever! Love you forever always keep you and your music alive in my heart and on my mind. Saw double trouble the year after you passed but never got to see you play live. I wish so much I could have. Thank you Stevie for living your life as such a sweet person. My heart cries like your guitar every single time I play your songs. Rest in Peace you are so missed.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and his guitar go together and are legends amongst all the fans..Stevie is inspirational and his sound flows out all across the world..never forgotten..Was in a helicopter crash that took his young life..but..Stevie is here to stay and get his sound out..still going stronger then ever..RIP Stevie..your sound is still in the airwaves..
About a week now from the 26th anniversary of SRV's death. Somehow, it hit me today like it did 26 years ago. Just sad at our incredible loss; he was just warming up. Rest in Peace Mr. Vaughan, you are sorely missed.
When I was a kid traveling with my father, he would always play this guys album. And I slowly got Into him..my father would tell me his favourite bands, and favourite guitarist..this was one of em.
Stevie Ray is best ever guitar player. Saw him in person every Saturday night at 5050 Broadway, San Antonio TX for quite sometime. Saw him in other venues. I feel privileged that I was that fortunate.
I played my first club gig age 15, playing blues guitar on a Fender Strat, in a smokey club in Madrid Spain, 1967. I'm a year older than Stevie. He's tops. I drove thru Austin, my only time ever in TX, in 1972, I wish I'd met him then. I had already written several blues tunes. We would have hit it off great. I went off to CA to join a rural yogi community.
As the horse raced through his veins and the sweat poured off of him like rain off of a umbrella SRV took us into another dimension of blues. Nothing is as raw and hard core as live SRV. RIP
I had the luck to see him live in september 1986 in Ludwigshafen/ Germany. I remember that I was shocked how he was playing guitar. I have him never seen and heard before. I did not know him and his music. The only reason I was at this konzert was that a friend of mine had a ticket left and asked me if I wanna come with him. I said why not, maybe I like it.This was a great dicision. Since this time the music of Stevie has influenced me. Stevie is my all time favorite.
So Happy that the El Mocombo concert is finally on here! I can't say how much time I spent watching this VHS years ago trying to emulate this guy! I'm just wondering who the one idiot is that gave all these videos a thumbs down!
I'm into prog metal and I still love Stevie Ray Vaughan - his inimitable blues style - I love the almost haphazard playing which is still so very clean and passionate and soulful. I love his rendition of 'Lenny' off this same El Mocambo recording.
@@stuanhay his technique in this song and several others is called the texas shuffle. Stevie was a master at the technique and I find its a very important technique to learn because it helps one to control the strings. Not to say Stevie wasnt a natural talent but the technique isnt impossible to learn just takes a little practice
Hey think of this for a minute, if there's a Rock and Roll Heaven, imagine Stevie jamming right now with Eddie Van Halen and Tom Petty, Rock on brothers. This dude was just on another level with the guitar just like Eddie....
@@machtschnell7452 that would have been incredible but Duane was long gone before Stevie Ray came into the picture, but them two playing together would have been unbelievable, nice call Macht
