Imagine these three collaboratig on a project - Kitson is a masterful storyteller, Herring is a pretty good scriptwriter and Lee co-wrote an opera. Throw in the league of gentlemen as actors and co-writers and you've pretty much got my UK comedy dream
Wish Daniel Kitson did more radio work or some sort of streaming music show, he has great taste in music and has introduced me to many great artists during his all too infrequent dj sets.
@hordichuck you=wrong Lee and Herring are amazing and two of the best comedians working today, particularly Lee, but Kitson is a better stand up than even Lee. He is one of the greatest stand ups ever and it wouldnt be hard to argue that he may be the greatest and without a doubt the most critically acclaimed comedian of the last decade.
So he does that Peter Kay thing, then actually auditions for the role of spencer on pheonix nights and now he's not proud of it cause it became popular... what's the bloody point of being in the entertainment industry then
After reading Tedaus5's comments and looking at his channel, It seems the poor chap has been driven mad by a combination of steroid use and repressed homosexuality.
He was superb as Spencer in Phoenix Nights. "Why should I give this position to you Spencer?" "Because it'll be the D.S.S. paying me wages and you won't have to give me a penny" "Really?? When can you start?? Welcome aboard Spencer lad ... welcome to the Phoenix"
Three mostly funny guys being nauseatingly condescending about a show that was funnier and more popular than the 3 of them together, plus their own audience who pay their mortgage. I laughed until I stopped.
These 3 guys are funnier than anything Peter Kay has ever written. That said, Kay is really really funny. I just think Kitson is the best stand-up ever.
If it wasn't for Pheonix nights he would be relatively unknown . If he was such a brilliant stand-up as some claim , he would be selling out huge venues throughout the country , instead of playing to a small , cult audience . Peter Kay is a splendid and talented stand up and a decent character actor , and I feel Kitson is simply envious of Kay .
Kitson purposely sacked his manager and stopped playing the big venues after he won the Perrier because he didn't want to go down that route and have to play to people like you.
Kitson says he didn't like Phoenix Nights. That was the best thing he's ever done by far. Phoenix Nights was comedy genius. Hardly anyone would have heard of him if he hadn't done Phoenix Nights!
He’s stand up is just incredible, when I lived back home I would go and see him as often as I could. I always enjoy performances that can make you both laugh and cry with equally sincerity.l and often simultaneously, I admire his career choices, I think being famous would be unbearable l, he’s managed to maintain a balance of earring living wage, maintaining artistic control and doing something he loves. He’s by far the best living stand up, I think this is in large part to him making the choices discussed by the moron who said Phoenix Night is the best thing he’s ever done.
