Excellent, I’ve kinda headed in this direction through trial and error but it’s really great to hear the concept formalised and extended from my clunky - ‘this works, that doesn’t’ process. I also ‘fly’ IL2, and the left/right rudder instructions to counter torque when changing power are reversed in, for example, the Sabre engine in the Tempest. I’m sure there was a good reason to have the prop spin opposite to nearly every plane before or since, but I haven’t heard it. It just seems like a quirky British design choice, which they sometimes do.

Glad you appreciate it! I'm sure the warbird pilots of old would be vindicated by that - this is after all simply the results of their trial and error process 100 odd years ago. That's a good point regarding the Tempest. The caveat to my rudder instructions would be "for clockwise turning propellers only!" I'm unsure of the rationale either, and even more bizarrely, your comment reminded me of a conversation I had with an instructor who was a warbird pilot. He was one of the blessed few who had gotten to fly the Spitfire, and he mentioned having to lead with left rudder as well thanks to the counter-clockwise turning propeller it had been fitted with. A quirky British design choice indeed.

Thanks Max100. Keep them coming. You have an excellent instructional manner that makes what can be dry or complicated very easy to absorb.

Wonderful guide! To much simming spoiled my IRL flying. Learned the finer points of attitude flying only long after I already got my license. But once you get the hang of it you can fly very precisely.

Glad you enjoyed it! A very common story though, fortunately I think simming can reinforce good attitude flying habits (once you have them!)

I've experienced the F-14 is quite a stick and rudder plane, unlike e.g. the F5. Are there any other modern planes in DCS with similar flight characteristics?

Fantastic video, Max100. Learnt a lot. Any chance you could do an attitude flying guide for my favourite warbird, the Mossie? Thank you. Apoll

Hey mate, absolutely! At the very least I’ll do some example attitudes/power settings for it. I’ve also got a 2 point landing guide in the works that features it.
