EDIT: Ladies and Gentlemen i made a little mistake on a portions of the video where i talk about the brake accumulator I said it has 3-4 pumps for emergency I was wrong. Its actually 7 (seven) full pumps available from the brake accumulator My apologies on that
As always, welcome back to the adventure. And if you are new here i would recommend you check out older videos so you get familiar if the format and context of my videos.
I always love your input and knowledge and questions, don’t ever hesitate to ask me or other fellow viewers because you have a multitude of professional here watching and listening.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for watching and coming with me on these journeys. Till next time … yours truly STIG 🤙 LATER 🛫

Per the Systems Manual, the yellow brake pressure accumulator provides seven full applications of braking.

Also, the lower gauges are for the secondary braking system only. Under normal braking they should both be at zero. These will move with the parking brake on as that uses the secondary braking system. Under emergency braking without anti skid the system is limited to 1000 psi, this the green section. 🤙🏻

Hey Stig, I take exception to the comment about being towed to the old United Hanger. To me, it will always be the old Continental Hanger. My dad worked there in the radio shop from 1969 to 1983. I lost my father 20 years ago but I still have memories of him taking me to work and seeing those big beautiful DC-10's with the meatball logo on the tail. I want to thank you for your videos. There is something special about what all of you talented folks do behind to scenes to keep airlines moving and passengers safe.

Stig, your videos are always excellent and full of interesting information. Don't be hard on your editing skills, which happen to be excellent. I am not a creator, so I can only imagine how much work/time it takes to edit your videos into an hour-and-a-half video. I know you always strive for perfection, and to me that is what you always do. You are a kind soul, and just know that you are loved by tens of thousands of Stig fans, including me! I love your ghost stories. The one you mention in this video is truly scary. My favorite airplane ghost stories are about a few planes that had salvaged parts from the wreck of Eastern Air Lines L-1011 'Flight 401' ...truly frightening for a few crew members. I could not put the book 'The Ghost of Flight 401' down until I was finished reading it. Take care Stig 👍

Another great video. I know your pain in regards to blocked galley drains, most blocked by coffee grounds with orange juice pulp. If you ask cabin crew they “never ever put coffee or orange juice down the drains”, wonder how it gets there then. Chapter 38 is the worst, on classic 747’s the “golden dip” was stomach churning, 2 plastic bags on your arm, reach into the toilet tank to clear solids from around the dump valve or from around the screen on the flush motors, lots of fun. Vacuum toilet systems are better and give less problems. One thing I have noticed in vacuum systems is that solids accumulate in unused tubes. As an example, during a reconfiguration on A330-200’s a toilet was added fwd of door 2 right and was attached to an existing unused ducting. On the first aircraft the tube was full of solids from the mid cabin toilet connection to door 1 right. Removal of the tube was done off shift on overtime due to the horrendous smell and it took the cleaners days to get the tubes clean. It was the same on all the aircraft. Something to keep in mind if you are unlucky enough to have to break into unused toilet tubes. Another bit of experience is that even with regular ice and vinegar treatments to the toilet systems a calcium like buildup can accumulate in the tubes and if some passenger puts a solid object in the toilet it can block the tube, had this happen on a 747-400. Draining the tube without contaminating the aft cargo Wa the difficult bit. Tape plastic tube ( plastic bag type plastic in a tube not a plastic pipe) and run that into a toilet cart, disconnect the clamp from outside the plastic rapping, all liquids and solids contained and directed into the toilet cart. That’s probably enough for now, hope you find these things useful.

You mentioned the FADEC and how they can run even without power - the craziest example of this has to be Qantas 32 after the HPT blade sliced through a chunk of wires like 8” thick and cut off control to the #1 engine. It’s a double-edged sword though, as NO ONE could shut down that engine after landing. I think they eventually snuffed the core out with foam, but nothing else worked. Those engines are SO complicated, it’s incredible how self-sufficient FADEC can be even when literally cut-off from the rest of the aircraft.

I have a ghost story too. I'm a retd Marine Engr., retd 2014. 76 now. I always wanted to learn how to drive a truck otr. So l got my Class A Iicence thru CRST. I was driving thru W. Texas when my shift ended. So l found a nice place off the road, did my shutdown chk, air pressure leakdown, tires etc. It was Winter, chilIy. So l hopped into the sleeper nestled up under the blankies and zonked. About 0230 or so l heard what sounded like a trap draining condensate. Couldn’t understand why. Engine off. No pressure buildup. So l ignored it. Drifted off. About an hr later, same thing. Repeated again about an hr later. It was pretty isolated where l'd parked. So l thot someone had possibly stopped and was opening a reservoir drain. So l got up brot my flashlite and checked the whole rig, stem to stern. Nobody around. Nothing amiss. So back aboard, back to sleep. TilI Morning. Went thru startup check, nothing amiss. Took off routinely. Kinda spooky. Never was able to find anything amiss.

Hey stig, early on in the video you explain about the CFM LEAP 1A startup, and you said don’t ask me about PW 1100-G, but here’s how it goes. When starting up, the pilots switch to ign start mode, and press DUAL COOLING which will engage both engines into a cooling process. This will slightly rise N1 and you would see both engines moving. After roughly 45 seconds, fuel flow will engage and the N1 will rise on ENG 2. Once ENG 2 is on and AVAIL, then we start ENG 1 master, and because of the dual cooling, ENG 1 would start as fast as an IAE V2500 engine. I hope this makes sense.

Heavy frame gas turbines and steam turbines are the same. Prior to turning and startup of a cold turbine the bearing lift pumps must be started to lift the (very heavy) rotors off the bearing shelIs. Then the turbine(s) must be placed on turning gear and turned tilI the shaft(s) straighten. Only then can the gas turbine be fired up and steam be admitted to the steam turbine prior to paralIeling and Ioading.

I don't like doing drain and sewer line work. Always stinks. I've learned to use gloves, too, as the sludge in drains and traps is like indelible ink!! I'm a glider rated pilot, and the cockpit is still a thrill. Working on large aircraft, in the cockpit, you'd never get me out of there 😁

hey stig, last week i flew out to amsterdam and when I got there i decided to take a look around the massive Schiphol Airport, lucky for me i spotted an ACT doing a walk-around and I immediatly thought of you, i was amazed to experience a simple walk-around because I knew some of the things that your colleague was doing and thats all on you, thank you for all the knowledge you give me and all the other fellow aviation enthusiasts !

That’s funny! As you were showing the Cathay Pacific Cargo landing I thought to myself, wait there wasn’t a “cargo never disappoints” segment! Either that or I missed it somehow! But alas, no sooner I thought that, and you put it in! Great video as always Stig!! And for what it’s worth, I think you do a phenomenal job of editing and narrating. I know that feeling very well referring to to ghost story with the feeling of NEEDING to leave the area IMMEDIATELY! I was working on a house , and the first day I was dropped off by myself while the other guys went for materials. I heard footsteps upstairs and I thought there were squatters up there. I yelled up that I wouldn't call police if they leave. No one came down and with a makeshift weapon, I went up and found nobody there. To make a long story short, there was one room in that house that I couldn't stand to be in. It was a feeling of dread like you wouldn't believe. Turns out there was a single black mother and her child of eight if I remember correctly, killed somebody and the mother left EVERYTHING behind.

That lock wire and blood… I don’t know how many times I have done maintenance on my jet engine for my bike, and punched my fingers on that steel wire end. It’s effective though, keeping everything in place. That cold startup is an issue for me also, I need to preheat the engine, either with gas during startup or with a blower torch or else it won’t catch rpm and run. If I go on too hard, it will be a hot start. That’s bad. Great film again. Thanks.

Talking of ghosts not being able to see touch or stop it. Well I got a regular visitor that loves waiting for me to nod off before it’s starts to poke my head lift my arms to name but two and yes it feels like real contact I can’t touch it but it makes contact with me. For years I didn’t believe in spooks or the afterlife but since this started a few years ago. I sure do now! I’m not afraid of it for some reason and I like to think it’s someone who knew or knows me. As for who I got no idea as sadly I’ve lost a lot of people I loved very much since childhood. I suppose one day I’ll meet my invisible and departed annoyance and it will probably turn out that I don’t know who it is after all 😂 anyway stig another great video cheers bud!

Hey Stig, Nice shot of Air New Zealand's 777-300 in the All Black livery, which is my national carrier. Air New Zealand also have a 787-9(ZK-NZE), Bombardier Dash 8-Q300(ZK-NEM), ATR-72-600(ZK-MVA), Airbus A321-NEO (Domestic)(ZK-OYB) this one has the Star Alliance livery and logo, and Airbus A320-CEO(ZK-OAB) which was the very first plane to have that livery. There is a time lapsed video of ZK-OAB being assembled and going into the paint shop. Also, there was a Beech 1900D also in the same livery. I always feel an immense sense of pride when spotting my national carrier overseas. I hope they do the Retro livery from the late 1960's.
