I did not anticipate this video to be this long, I only worked two days this week, both 16 hour shifts, but it was incredibly packed with a lot of information. I hope you guys enjoyed it, please feel free to ask your questions in the comments I’ll be more than happy to answer everything for you.
Once again, thank you for watching and I’ll see you on the next one

I was talking to my brother in law over dinner and he mentioned that is getting interested in becoming an airplane mechanic, he is currently an engineer for GE but would like to transition to a new career, I told him about your channel Stig and his eyes lit up, he said you are the reason he wants to be a mechanic. You are an inspiration brother, you love and passion for your job is contagious. Keep up the good work.🎉

Yeah. I know how that works. I always wanted to be a BSME. It took awhile but l finaIly got one late in life on the Gl BiIl. But l don't like working in offices, on computers etc. I much prefer hands on work. Which is what l've done. Mechanical and electrical work aIl my Iife (some other too). Got a raft of paperwork - steam engr's license, Marine Engr's license, A & P, you name it.

This is the most excellent aviation channel on RU-vid in my opinion. Don't ever apologize for talking too much, explaining too much, or going into too much detail. I love the explanations. I'm not a pilot but a flight simulator junkie, and so the information you impart is incredibly interesting and satisfying to me. There's a ton of aviation channels out there, including from pilots, but your channel is by far the most informative and easiest to watch. You do a great job. Again, never apologize. Speaking for myself, I'm never bored. Those who are likely just aren't into the amazing engineering and systems of aircraft. I thought I knew quite a bit about plane systems, etc. but I've learned so much from your channel. Thank you. I find it amazing that you're allowed to produce such detailed videos at your job, but am very glad you are.

So the repair on N939AN looks to be most likely some corrosion repair work done during a base check in 2012, I think. The public records and cross referencing structural drawings of the fuselage to determine roughly where this repair area was led me down a whole rabbit trail that lasted into the early AM hours. Thanks for that 😂. Also interestingly enough, this was the bird that got tagged in the rudder by a 777 wingtip, which was under tow in Miami. Thankfully, there was minimal damage to both aircraft.

Excellent rapid fire info. I can't get enough! My career was telecom tech support, now retired and a volunteer tour guide at an aviation museum in Reading, Pa. My visitors get about 1 1/2 hrs. of how airplane stuff works. I often tell visitors, "This is my Disney." I bet you'd agree. BTW - I'm trying to place your accent and cadence. Sounds to to me east coast, not Brooklyn, but maybe Staten Island.

Never tired of hearing you talking about airplanes systems, back-up sys even trivia part. Absolutely fantastic and unique chanel. Tell me Stig, bcs u mentioned that u got u got to work on 727 and 737 clasics[with PW JT8D]and probably some other machines. How did u then diagnose a problem like this captain made a note in the book[plus eager to hear from u, maintenance guys], with no on-board diagnostics and DFDR or QAR(USB or data card, recording sometimes over 2000 parameters, as Google says ...Must b pain in the butt to diagnose if it is 9xxx or 5xxx event ? Ot tell us a something that was very different and FOR SURE much more labour intensive. Eh ? Thank you for your effort for showing as this job from first hand and almost POV recorded. Much more clear what to expect if someone decide to gave a career like u. Like X 1000. Stay safe .

Working on those older aircraft was definitely a bigger challenge. The computer boxes were all inside the equipment bay, and they were not as sophisticated as they are now. We would be going off small little fault lights that would lead us to the fault isolation manuals. After which an intensive Search for the malfunctioning component. It definitely was not easy. The other aspect you have to realize is that those older aircraft were built, much much stronger and tougher. The 727 is literally a flying tank, that thing can go through a wall and still keep going.

The most amazing thing about airplanes to me, besides getting off the ground, but the fact, as soon as that aircraft lifts off the ground, the entire weight of the aircraft is spread across the wings. Take a 747 804 engines plus fuel that is an amazing amount of weight on those wings and that’s just sitting on the ground. Then you had turbulence to a flight and those wings are flexing 10 feet up and down and how they don’t come off. The air frame is truly amazing.

This was one hell of a video. If I were a student watching this as a training video, I would feel so overwhelmed. I think I would just start crying. It seems like you are responsible for thousands of things on the aircraft. If you take a glance in the cargo area & the flight deck & the landing gear, there is so much there. How do you remember it all? At a single glance, how do you manage to know what looks good and what doesn’t?

Didn’t know about the reasoning behind the over sized rivets in the fuselage. Embarrassingly enough I’ve hit my own knee with the Stab trim wheel. Pulled out the handle and then got busy and forgot the handle was out 🤦‍♂️ Doesn’t feel good at all, but an excellent reminder to pay attention to my surroundings and always check the stab trim handle. Hi Stig, these videos are great and your commentary isn't one bit of boring. Early in the video, you mentioned small items like missing placards grounding aircraft; can you give an example of something common for this on larger aircraft? I've seen some requirements for fuel placards in 14 CFR part 91, § 91.9 and ID plates in AC 45-4, but don't have much experience with the heavy side of things. As always, thanks for the knowledge transfer!
@StigAviation
@StigAviation 9 месяцев назад
It’s almost the same way, most notably, emergency, placards are the ones that are scrutinized the most. Anything that’s showing information of emergency equipment or emergency exits can be a grounding item.

Stig…. First time responding to any of your videos… I admire the passion you have for your job. Feel free to make the videos longer, but stop saying sorry, as you have nothing to be sorry for.. I’m sure many feel safer in the air, after seeing just one of your videos… Again Ty from N.H…

Always enjoy your video's, get to learn allot about jets that are not normally seen. My jet knowledge extends to " stow and lock your tray, seatback in the upright position and remain seated and belted until the captain turns off the seatbelt sign etc"😮 When you love your job you never work a day in your life, and by the way you inform people on your daily routines your definitely having the time of your life. 😊

At 38:42 you started talking about the Stand Up To Cancer aircraft. THANK YOU. And Thank You for zooming in on the aft black arrow because I was able to see my mom’s name! It’s visible at 39:01 to 39:08. I’ve seen it in person at a ceremony in the PHX hangar before Covid, but I can refer this to my brother so he can see it as well. 😃

It’s incredible to dive deep into the engineering aspect of aviation, aircraft are already beautiful as they are from the exterior, but once you start looking what actually makes them work, it’s even more impressive

I just found your channel. I’ve been an A & P for over 35 yrs, been a tech and Flight Engineer for the same corporate operator for 25 yrs. I surprised you don’t service O2, but perform bottle change instead. Why is that? Thanks for the fun content! 👍🏼😁
@StigAviation
@StigAviation 9 месяцев назад
Our station has its own oxygen shop, so they want us swap the bottles. They take the below limits bottles and service them at the shop and also have the capability to hydrostatic test them. Not all of our stations have that, some service it on site as you said. Thank you for all you years of hard work and keeping them airworthy sir. And pleasure to have you here.

Ah, thats what that barking noise is!!!! I was on an airbus and flew out of PHX to NC for a trip last year and never been on a plane where I heard that and we hit some very VERY turbulant air at take off for the first 30 min or so and that noise started and just kept going and could feel the thump each time it cycled that noise... Wife and I were in the exit row and the attendants seat was right ther and my wife has bad anxiety flying and the attendent saw her and said "dont worry, that noise is completely normal". I normall fly Southwest 99% of the time, so thats why that noise was odd to me, boeing :). Glad to know what that noise is on an airbus now!
