Bought an 064 in 1993 paid $710 for it out the door tax and all used it last weekend to cut 3 cordes of wood. Always starts, even when it’s super cold. Every time I run it, it “Still” amazes me , it brings back a lot of memories of making a living all through high school and puts a smile on my face. Definitely one of the finer things in life!
@@ionspataru-zn9wm I’ve had it rebuilt twice We used to fill semi trailers with wood at 20 cords each . And has been used regularly ever since. I made a living with it in my teenage years. I’d love to know how many hours it has. With a little care it just keeps purring!
Muscle saws? The saws you mentioned were a contrast from their formers in that torque was exchanged for hp & chain speed. They were the first of the modern variety, IMO.
Those old 64’s are still a good running saw 👌they had it right back then 30 years and still running with todays saws is really nuts to think about Thank you Richard
Love what you are doing with the channel, would you be willing to do a quick video on your trucks. I have been seeing them in the back ground of you in shop videos and looks like you have a couple of cool rigs
I put away my 064 in 1999 after harvesting in New Zealand with it for 12 months.. still had the 24 year old fuel in it .. 6 pulls and away she went .. spent a day cutting firewood with it .. beautiful saw
@@alexstromberg7696 I know. But not as light as a 500i. I was just referring to people liking new saws because they are lighter. I prefer older because they were built to last.
Ultimately they are all disposable as long as there are modern equivalents in the stores. Good luck running this thing for 50 years in the woods and thinking you can get oem parts. I run mostly "modern" saws but will run my 346/372/200t occasionally because they are awesome and bring me back to a more simple time.
Great vid I love the pure accuracy in your cuts I love nothing more than hanging off the end of my saws but when I can’t get out due to weather or lack of wood I can watch and listen for hours to your saws and faultless cutting. Thanks from New Zealand
I have my cousin's 064AV that I am in the process of re sealing. He used it falling for years. She's beat to hell but runs like a dream! Now she just lives her life in retirement cutting fire wood.
Mr Gordy I know you don't me but my name is John Wayne n I have been Watching you and Matt know for a few months and you two got me to get my Ole dads ole Mac n his ole Homelight timber saws that he had when I was kid and he passed them down to me n now you two have gotten me back out n the woods with son n me showing him what the big man above has gave us in life and I wanted to say thank you n Matt for making ole man feel alive again from the mountains of Appalachia keep cutting and God bless you...
The Internet is a goofy place…..It kind of brings us all together and hearing that we got you excited to bring out your dads saws and go cut is awsome 👌 I was just in your neck of the woods last month and how cool it is over there love it Thank you for the comment and by the way you have one hell of a name John Wayne💪
@@westcoastsaw1368 thank you so much for the awesome reply yea I'd love to be able one day to visit where you all from iv been to lower part of California a long time ago it's amazing how much things change from side of the states to the other and also I wanted say condolences to jedd and his family watching videos of him and he taught me things I didn't know u could do to a chain ⛓️ but also I'm glad I found yalls channel u will jave a supporter for life and y'all stay safe...from the mountains of Appalachia...
Love the old Stihl saws from the 80's I'm currently running an 038 magnum, 038 magnum 2, 036 pro, but my 031 sits in the garage. Both of the mags have 3 point WCS dogs on them and they're awesome!
Those saws never been in retirement to begin with)))) great saws, logging for decades and I will not trade my 460 for any amount of brand new 500i's periods.:)))
They're not the lightest, they're not the flashiest....but Dammit if the "oh" generation of Stihls isn't my favorite. Runners, man. They just go. Simple and user friendly.
Just turned 20..I do as much tree work as I can find. This is the main saw I use 😅 and first saw I rebuilt myself… looks identical to yours except the max flow kit is different. Cool to see nice video 👍
have those saws been ported plenty of good power in the cut and still pulling good is that a old school saw if those saws are stock cut and pull like that winner, 🥇 winner 🥇 pizza 🍕 dinner TLC/OMG 2 13 2O23
Been out using my old trusty 046 today...25 plus years old still runs like a top in mid size DF timber. That 064 still sounds great...I still have my 056 mag Il...still run in goodshape... I skip the 064...went to 066..Shoe in SW Oregon
Another awesome video, start my tree service job last week and I love it, I need to get some west coast saw suspenders so I can make everyone jealous. Keep up the good work and the awesome videos
Just your neighbor down in graham again. Another banger, brother. Here’s my friendly reminder of how bad I want truck video… might just make this my thing until I get my way and you show us them truck. Keep up the hard work young man. You’re killin it.
Absolutely love the square body trucks that you have for sure!! I have 5 6 of them and they are all the 1TON 4x4 also!! I hated braking stuff all the time on the 3/4ton trucks so I had to jump up and definitely don’t brake stuff like I used to!! I’d definitely love to see a video on both trucks some time for sure!!! Just going over them and what all that is on them and what’s in them!!! I bet that you would definitely have others come to your channel also that have never seen you before!!!
I'm a total non-pro so feel free to laugh at this, but I hate the idea of debris falling in the tanks so I keep a small, cheap paint brush in my kit, (1" or 1.5"). I cut the bristles shorter with a pair of scissors to make them stiffer. Quickly swipe it around the caps before removal. Could drill a hole in the handle, add a thong and hang it with the fuel bottles. Could even cut the handle shorter. Weighs next to nothing.😁Damn, you line those face cuts up sweet. Mark
Nothing wrong with that I like that idea my tanks get full of crap all the time I’m constantly trying to wash them out into my waist oil when I get back to the shop
@@westcoastsaw1368 Thanks for the replies! Much appreciated. Just wanted to clarify, by "thong" I meant the leather cord variety. Didin't mean to suggest anyone should sacrifice their weekend under garments. 🤣
When I am cutting big wood I prefer my 500i but when I am limbing smaller branches 9" or less I prefer my 046 it has less rpm and more torque. I have a refurbished 066 that I have never started the wood is just not big enough where I am at to justify using a big saw but I sure am glad that I bought it.
I love my 064 just wish I could find a new coil that worked as good as the oem. I changed the flywheel to the old model 066 and an aftermarket coil but it isn't quite the same but she still gets the job done.
Please say hi to Donny for me, from Isaac larson used to process for him and my pa and i cut quite a bit of oversized for him really good guy. There is video of his big skidder and some of the jobs we did on my channel. Thanks for the cool video and be careful out there.
Oh yeah I got a 066 I’ve had a while absolutely love it when I crank she starts most reliable saw I’ve owned and it’s my favorite always wanted to get it ported but don’t know who to send it too
Hold up on that carwash gentlemen! Buford T Justice 😂! You boys out on the Oly Pen today? I sure do miss my ol 038 32" bar had an aftermarket carb k&n filter gyppo special! it was no stranger to danger #logtheplanet #earthfirst suck on it Greta
Great Video but you just can't tease us with the back end of that sweet looking square body as you're signing off -- we need to see all those sweet trucks....
