Hey man, you role with what you got. Stihl, Husky, Jred, Poulan Pro, Echo, Dolmar, Solo, Efco, hell even the real older ones like pioneer, partner, McCullough everyone has the awesome memories of growing up watching dad cut firewood and eventually cutting it themselves with that saw, it really becomes a valuable item because of that sentimental value we give it and the nostalgic feeling of running it again after a long time. Brings back the fond memories.
Absolutely!!! Cutting wood is about being outside in the woods, but also about spending time with good people having a great time! Thanks for watching.
I own one it's now about 10 years old. Not only is it an awesome firewood saw, I have taken many trees down as well. I love it and have yet to have any issues with it. Still fires up every time and cuts great.
First of all, happy birthday young man. I’ve never run your particular saw, so I’ve no comment as to it. I did have a Stihl 026 Pro that I thought was a great firewood saw. However, the greatest workhorse for me in firewood goes back to the old Homelite XL-12 or Super XL. It was slow but steady with that saw for many years. I’d still have it even today had my younger brother not borrowed it and subsequently destroyed it.
My grandad had an 034. Ran it a lot. My first saw is my 291. My girlfriend at the time, now wife, bought it for me. Same thing as your story. Ive sold a lot of wood. I thought it was a big saw. Now I'm looking to upgrade. That 291 has more then paid for itself. And I've abused it just like you with that 290. It still runs tho.
Happy birthday, I have an 029 I would never sell probably 30 plus years old. I have bigger saws both Husky and Stihl one of my favorite saws is a Stihl 390 just love that saw. Husky 550 xp cuts above its weight class imo.
I had an old Poland and then got the next model up from the 290. Same saw but a few more CCs. Used it for a long time the got a 440. Used it until the 441 came out. I traded the first Stihl for the 441. My special saw is the 440. It is slower then the 441 but for some reason I don’t think I will ever get rid of it.
I still pull out my Dad's 029 from the early 90s at times. Never ran bigger than the 18" it came with. Bought myself a 462 28" for the bigger stuff, as I spent a few hours cleaning up a tree on the road to get out of the woods with that 029 last spring. 18" sucks on a 40" tree 😂
I’d have to agree but the 029 not the 290 but I owned a ms310 had it for 18 yrs and was still as strong as it was when I bought it… I did muffler mod it and it out cut my red lever 034
24” is really too much for the 290. Mine came with a 20” as well. I just use this saw for limbing trees now so the 24” gives me more reach. Thanks for watching.
Why make a older saw work that much harder by putting a bar on it that is way to big Stihl say maximum bar length of 20" and you can see it's struggling with the size bar your running on it, I'd argue that if you're going to be cutting the quantity of wood you talk about get a saw from the professional range like the older Stihl 044 or 046 that will run that size bar all-day with power on tap
