Good day, you shouldn't start digging the hole with the extension in place as it positions the machine at chest level near to your heart. A very dangerous or deadly incident could happen if that kicks back and hits you in the chest. Add the extension after you have dug the whole with initial standard auger. The machine should be near or below waist level. Thanks and stay safe.

Used one the weekend and was amazed at how wick it drills and yes the safety bar which disengages the drive is a godsend.

I bought one to drill some 8" holes in NM. The clay soil was dry and extremely hard, so the auger would just spin without digging. I sharpened the blade and it helped a little. I finally welded the wing on a t-post, then drove it down and pulled it back out with my backhoe. I then filled the holes with water and let it set. Drilling was still very difficult but I managed to get it done. What I liked about this auger is the safety bar. When it would get stuck, it would kick out. If I had been using a standard auger, I would have probably had serious injuries. I did have trouble locating one.

Picking this set up tomorrow, its hard to find in Michigan! Putting the hand held post hole digger to the side!

You will still need the manual PHD to clean the slack out of the hold, but this is a work horse. Thanks for the comment. Please subscribe for future content. Also, I had to special order through a Stihl Dealer. It was not part of their inventory.

@@acethetoolman1537 I called all over SE Michigan for this set up, the only one I found was 1 1/2 hours away. Just picked it up!

@@rjoudi1 I hope u like it. I just finished installing 23 4 x 4 fence post. I encountered some rocks and trees that required manual work but they would have stopped any auger. The safety clutch on the stihl saved me several times.

Hi Does this have a reverse gear option or a reverse rotating mechanism after reaching certain depths like 2 or 3 meters. ? Kindly respond. Thank you.

Now that you’ve probably used it quite a bit, any tips or comments you would tell others who’ve just bought one?
@acethetoolman1537

Be careful with it. Make sure you position your body where it will trip the clutch before it twists those twigs that you call wrist. The machine works very well but can be dangerous if you are not accustomed to tools.

Great video not very many reviews on RU-vid of these BT 131's im looking at getting one just wish they weren't so expensive but i want quality i don't want to buy a 200$ earthquake from harbor freight. Question How long is the extension for the bit?
@acethetoolman1537
@acethetoolman1537 2 года назад
The Bit is 26inches and the Extension is 18inches. I would recommend getting both unless u don't mind getting on your knees. Also the biggest thing about the stihl is the safety clutch. It kept me from getting hurt several times. Preventing injury is worth the extra money 💰

@@acethetoolman1537 I decided to go ahead and pick one up I didn't think I was going to get one for a second because they where on backorder and the soonest they could get one was a couple of months. But I got lucky and found one in stock and I even got it for 10% off for the machine and bits and extensions! Very nice people to work with I got the BT 131, a 3.5 inch bit, 7.9 inch bit, and 2 extensions. was pretty pricey but very happy with it I'm glad I didn't go for that cheap earthquake.

Nice review. I hope to get one to plant trees etc. in this awful PNW glacial rocky clay.. Do you like the safety bar? I'm afraid I'll tear by balls off.

If u are talking about the safety clutch, yes. If not for it automatically disengaging I would have been seriously hurt several times already. This is the main reason I would spend the extra money on Stihl.

The 4x4 wood posts on our fence have rotted. I was thinking of replacing them with smaller steel posts. Has anyone tried drilling out the old wood with an auger and leaving the concrete in the ground?
@bmddlton
@bmddlton Год назад
I would dig around the concrete and pull them out. There’s no auger that can drill through concrete, because of the type of bit needed and hammering action the drill does.
