This Stihl MS211 Chainsaw was dropped off! Hard to start, boggy, no power, won’t run for long! Let’s dive in and find out why! If you enjoy my video, please subscribe! I post new chainsaw repair videos every week!
Hi there, can i please take a moment and say massive thanks for your videos, so much information and knowledge there which is really really helpful for the people who want to fix their equipment. You and your partner are geniun. Not everyone share their knowledge in this world. Please keep doing these videos especially around chainsaws as that is where my key interest is. Fablous. Thanks
Excellent video. Stihl could use this in their training program. With the stupid push to battery powered equipment I hope it does not hurt your business.
As a retired small engine mechanic for more than thirty years you are showing me things on these newer saw thanks I still work on friends and family stuff 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Well hello again. It's your favorite xlogger sounding off from the southern piedmont region of Virginia. You know, I used to think that I knew it all about small 2 stroke engines, but every time I watch one of your videos, I learn a thing or three. You are muchly appreciated.
Great video...I have to say that I really don't like the throw away mind set of people today...Motorized tools and vehicles need maintenance, buying new does not fix the lazy owner problem. It just makes for more things being thrown away that can be fixed. The truth is maintenance cost money and that is the cost of owning tools that get used.
I totally agree with you on throw away mindset. I have an MS170 and I've spent the price of saw in repair/maintenance, not all in one shot. I'm hesitant to bring it to a shop and try myself with the help of videos like this. I managed so far, but I'm an IT guy, better at Googling for solutions. Bought an MS261 recently because I need to cut more wood and more frequently. Will still try to keep the MS170 going.
Thank you for these videos. I’m a 33 year member of the Laborers Union in Boston MA. These videos have helped me solve many simple fixes on our cut off and chainsaws
Just found your channel. I really appreciate the step by step you do. I found a 211 at a yard sale for 20$. Couldn't resist, the people selling it knew nothing about it. It's now inline behind about 6 different Huskies, a couple of 031s, a 041, 024, 028, 056........lol.
I have recently retired from my job as an emergency dispatcher. I have found a new hobby in trying to fix chain saws. I still have very little experience but I think I have found the best teacher here. Your explanations are very clear and easy to understand. So tons of greetings from Finland. I would say the most common chain saws here are Stihl and Husqvarna/Jonsered. Excuse me for my bad English. Once again. You are a great teacher.
Fantastic videos, well-explained and very interesting how you work thru all possible issues.... am really impressed how good you are as repairer...... keep up the good work you do..... regards from Sweden 👍👍👍
Have an 025 with a red selector lever in the garage waiting for a new AM piston and cylinder. Enjoying the 2 stroke videos! Should be string trimmer season soon.
The 211 has a terrible reputation here in Australia, restart and running issues being the biggest problems. I have one at home with a bent connecting rod, I am still baffled how you bend a rod in 35cc chainsaw.
Hi from Ireland. Great Knowledge, clear Instruction videos. 😊. After watching your videos , I am much more comfortabe doing Chainsaw, maintence now. Its satisfying to be able to fix things yourself.
I like the method used to diagnose the issue, by excluding all possibilities, perfect, and well explained, and the result is really like expected. Bravo !
Have you worked on any Stihl FS94R trimmers with vapor lock problems? I had 2 of those, & they’d get hard to start every summer when it got above 85-90 degrees. The only way I’d find to temporarily fix it was to crack the gas cap & release the pressure from inside the fuel tank. Thank you for your straightforward videos.
great video content on diagnosing 2 stroke engines. I've worked on my own stuff before, didn't realize how important the pressure and vacuum test to crankcases and fuel system are. I need go get my saw out the shed and do some exploring.
nice idea using the dropper for the gas check. Thinking that Stihl will phase out the cheaper gas saws since cheap chainsaws from Amazon can be bought or an electric saw is more suitable for homeowner so they do not ruin the saw by neglecting proper gas maintenance
Great content! Just found your channel. Keep up the great work. Its not lost on me how much work it is to record this stuff while you're doing it.... not to mention all the editing in post. Is there a manual or catalogue for all the OEM tooling you use? Those T Handles you have for the T27 and 8mm nut look super nifty. I'm wondering if my local Stihl dealers have a stash of these somewhere in the back.
Thanks for your great training video. Sure helps me understand chainsaws. No matter what brand, I suppose. High test fuel supposedly has no ethanol in it. ? Should we be using this in our saws. ? Thanks a bunch. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋
Thank you so much for taking the time to go through all the air leak testing. 😊 When you talked about time that the shop takes to get into these chain saws, that is why on my (MS-291) they put a label on there bench of as is sales product out in lobby of JD tractor sales business. Thay priced my MS-291 at $420 sold as is. The saw was damaged on handle bar behind the black hold down safety. Just cracked. ( I taped it up with Gorilla Tape) The sales guy at counter told me exactly what you said. There techs time to replace handle cover was not worth it, they could sell it as is. It was a new saw. I have never had a issue cutting with her. 😊 She cuts like a raped Ape 😊 compared to my (Sears) saw. I bought the sears because I liked the priming bulb, and the Price. But boy the Stihl cut so much faster and better for personal usage cutting up round stock on branches especially Harder wood. I have a tone of big branches, that took no amount of time with Stihl, 😊 the Seare saw was slowsr cutting. Just harder on my old back.😊😊 I wished lived closer to you, love the COIL test with feeler gage tool.
You are the greatest mechanics .thanks for teaching us how to work on chainsaws.where can I buy the pressure vacuum tool.? Thanks again

Great as always, didn't hear if you put a new spark screen that was missing.??? I assume you did. I'll redo the video as I may have missed that part. Thanks so much.
Better work on the 261 next unless you ate your Wheaties, lol! I actually thought that the needle and seat would be leaking because of the flooded condition and the discoloration on the air filter.
I fully agree to find the actual issue before adjusting the carb., however I see no reason to not at least check the settings, in case the owner tried to adjust for the issues. If you know the adj. were not changed from when working, then I would leave them alone till finding the dirt(I imagine); still watching.
If you ever get MS311 I'd love to see you working on it. Just to see possible issues. I have mine for 14 months and absolutely no issues and I love it!!
I have the same problem with my Stihl gas string trimmer. Thanks for your very informative video!!! Ill probably just buy a new carb. Out of curiosity, where is your shop at? Im from BC.
really enjoying seeing your skilled repairs. my Stihl dealer recommended ONLY using Sihl Motomix premix fuel. she said, most saw issues are caused by customers fuel mix and ethanol. was that good advice?
I recently discovered your channel and love the way you diagnose and explain each step of your repair. Do you have a tools list on Amazon like many do on RU-vid?
You need a new pointer finger, eh? Does Stihl not recommend a pop-off test on the needle/seat? Good to look at the mixture screws taper area for damage caused by bottoming out the needle. Never did like a saw with one bar nut, but I do have a couple electric like that. Good for around the house, start every time. 😁
When you get a compression tester for small engines, what adapters needs to come with it? I have some vintage equipment made in SAE measurements and newer gear made in metric. Perhaps an ignorant question but do I need adapters in metric and SAE? I see that some tools come with several adapters while others only have one or two.
My local saw shop sells ethanol-free gasoline by the gallon and will add 2-cycle oil per my specifications. At the end of my cutting season (October) i drain the fuel from my weed eater, chainsaw and other gas powered tools and then run them until the run out of gas.
Another enjoyable, informative video. Question..I notice you put the chain brake on, every time before attempting to start a saw. Is this a Stihl safety protocol? Maybe just me and my woodcutting roughnecks have been overlooking this safety feature when starting, thinking this was just a kickback safety feature. Your take?
I do it as a safety precaution. It’s how I was trained. Some people will agree, some will disagree. An old guy once told me “the chain is always out to get you”.
If it not economically viable to repair because of labour or parts costs , then a part exchange or trade in might be more suitable for these low value items. The unrepaired units would certainly have value in the scrap metal.
Looks like a brand new saw. Still under warranty? I have purchased 3 stihl machines, and in every case, they doubled the warranty if I bought an 8 pack of stihl premix oil.
