It was heavily criticised when it was released. Something which he seems to have overlooked. I remember someone describing the drum as having the sound of builders banging on the neighbours walls. 😅
I didn't know it was criticised, and I haven't heard the comparison with noisy builders, but I hated it from the first moment I heard it. In fact I've avoided all BBC programmes which have drums drowning out speech. I don't need manic drumming to make me think something trivial is important.
I was just brought back to my childhood when my husband played this. He wasn’t familiar with it but I absolutely did and was waiting to hear the “Good evening”
Wow! Great to see how it was done. I'm 64 and I honestly thought it was older than 25. It’s one of those tunes, like Match Of The Day, that’s such a part of British life and it’s wonderful to see the human being that composed it.

My wife loves this music. Most days when she’s heading out to work, she gets up, makes a cup of tea and puts the TV on by 05:55 just so she can catch this music!
