Stonington -There are not many people on the coast of Maine who can say that they have lived and breathed lobster fishing as long as Andy Gove of Stonington. He has seen the market rise and fall from 10 cents a pound to 10 dollars a pound. He has fished during WWII, Vietnam, and the Iraq war. He has fished through storms and gales and early sheds and late ones. The great-grandfather has caught lobsters of all color, shape, size and distortion and won many lobster boat races. Each day, Gove gets up and goes back out to do what he knows and does best.

My friends from Stonnington would tell me stories of about Andy and his fishing and how he they respected his work ethic and mentorship. A stand out community member. And this video confirms he was a special guy from a time that seems so long ago.

His accent is allot like a thick (Real) Boston accent but much much slower. In Boston words are spoken fast and almost and often times blend together to include dropping of "R's" in words

When these old fellas talk I can here the west country British accent. Especially when they say words like 'pipe' 'not' and 'hard'. It a shame these accents are dying out. Andy would fit right into the Plymouth fishing community in England, UK. Most folk probably wouldn't notice.

One of my best friends, Tim Richter, was married to Andy's daughter, Sandy, for ten years. During those ten years, I spent quite a bit of time visiting Andy and Rose. The two of them are a hoot and a joy to speak with and, often times, that's all we'd do, sit around and talk. Well, of course, only during the times when Any wasn't out lobstering. I really should stop by again and say hello. And since my parents spend their summers in Milbridge, it's entirely possible:)

I love picking on Andy. He plays along well. We once talked about how he could use Stonington town water to have a cup of tea and he didn't even need a tea bag, the water was already brown.
