Hello, today I will tell and show you how I paint a still life with olive paints. To be honest, I have become so addicted to gouache lately that I wasn’t drawn to oil) but I found a still life of Geliy Korzhev (photo) on the Internet and remembered that my mother had a similar kettle. I already wanted to put something oriental. So this still life appeared (photo). Due to the fact that the gouache brightens and does not give the depth of dark shades, the shadow parts look dead, but I wanted to convey exactly the dim lighting and the general thick color. Therefore, the choice fell on oil.
-We start by preparing the workplace and palette.
I have mainly Ladoga paints here, there is black mars in the master class. I take some colors in lapis lazuli, wangog and artryashin.
-I tried to limit the palette. Here I have whitewash, lemon cadmium, medium yellow cadmium. As you can see, the tube is stale and the linseed oil has settled. It can be simply drained. Cadmium orange, light ocher, natural sienna, light cadmium red, kraplak, chromium oxide, turquoise, ultramarine, blue, cobalt blue, red ocher, natural umber and mars black.
-Next, I choose brushes of the right size, for my format and tasks. I mostly use flat bristles. Sometimes I finish the details with synthetics or squirrel.
As you can see, the brush cuttings are dirty. This is my jamb) sometimes I didn’t bathe in the open air, so plaque accumulated. Sloppy in short)))
Since my studies I have been using this kind of palette holder. A very handy little thing) An acquaintance once made it for me.
As a diluent I use gum turpentine mixed with bleached cold-pressed sunflower oil. Sometimes I take odorless polish thinner. Turpentine is sold in hardware stores and I bleach the oil myself. It can sometimes be found commercially on various art platforms. I like to write more on cardboard than on canvas. I use fiberboard sheets glued in two layers with construction PVA. If the work is very dry, I open it with dammar varnish.
