Still Life Photography 

Thank you. There is so much to learn from these great painters and engravers. It's a life-long study.

I am hoping that eventually this will be the case.

These artist have been the basis of my work. I am encouraging everyone to study them.

Having an ongoing still life is great training for your eye. Painters do this. And, I think, so should we photographers. Good luck with your work.

Hi, Jon. Thank you very much for your note. I’m pleased that the videos are helping you with your work. For 20 years, prior to the retirement of Paige Rense as Editor-in-Chief, I shared the pages of “Architectural Digest” with some of the best architectural and interior photographers in the world. If you have access to issues from 1986-2006, you’ll see truly excellent photography, fully grounded in the principles of composition that I’m presenting in these videos. Keep in mind, that this arduous work was almost all done with large-format view cameras, making the level of accomplishment that much more admirable. I hesitate to name names, for fear of leaving out photographers whom I admire, but the photographs of my friends Durston Saylor and Mary Nichols are truly remarkable in their style, discipline, and unfailing consistency through the years.
