I return to Castor backwater for another attempt to catch the elusive Barbel and Chub which inhabit the river. #angling #chub #fishing #riverfishing #korum #cadance #guru #castor #rivernene
Come later in the day next time as there's a better chance at dusk. You can fish 1 HOUR after SUNSET as per weather app times. As in my other post the barbel are mainly out in the main river now. The nene rarely gets any flow something you get used to but when we do the fishing can be very good. Winter months are not much different to summer months now so the fishing can be the same except in extreme cold temps. Floodwater barbel fishing can be very productive but you really must get to know the river first. Castor has never been a bag up venue so it takes some getting to know. Your not doing anything wrong its just got very very much harder there in the last 2-3 seasons but keep at it as effort equals reward.
Nice video Mark, sorry it wasn't a bit more productive for you. I fished Castor Backwater a few times before I moved over to Coalport area. I used to target the smaller of the two back waters called "Black Dike". I spent a fair amount of time fish spotting along the stretch. Stick with it there are (or at least were) some proper lumps in there. I hooked into the biggest Barbel I have ever seen on two occasions and lost it both times in tree roots. It is a small intimate water but some big fish venture up out of the main River Nene. Happy fishing Phil
Thanks Phil. I’ll get one out of there eventually 😂😂 I’m off to France Carp fishing (I know that’s a swear word 😂) Saturday but will be back up to Coalport when I return. Hopefully catch up on the bank some time
Enjoyable vlog, I had a pike on trotted pellet a few weeks ago not sure whether it actually took the pellet or snatched at small fish and took the hook like a blue whale.
I would follow the advice of long netter👍 Also on the mid Severn I’m sure your able but I go for 3 to 5 days fishing I only fish dawn and dusk about an hour before and after which has brought me a variety of success but success nonetheless 👍 tight lines
If I was local I’d definitely do regular evenings but it’s a bit of a trek to get there. From what I’ve read there’s now a seal in the river just to make things even harder 😳
There’s some big chub in there, had 2 5lb+ out of there over the last week mostly near the top of the back water, also saw a few barbel up the top too but they weren’t fishable for someone of my level haha with snags etc.
@@AnAverageAnglersorry mate only just seen this, right at the top where the weir is, seen a few on there, some big chub in there too, going again in the morning weather permitting, still haven’t got a barbel from here or alwalton! Despite everyone else catching!
@@georgedavies4473 Thanks George. I’ve not been over since for various reasons and I’m guessing it’s quite flooded at present? If you do get out tomorrow hopefully you’ll find them 🤞🏻
