This is a very good documentary. There are so many misconceptions about the state of American industries that people peddle in the popular media. This film shows that they continue to adapt, innovate and even lead.
So interesting. Am teaching a class on quilts, and will use this to bring the textile information from the 1800's/slave days into the modern 21st century business era. Thanks for this!
I'm originally from Paterson, NJ...one of the Early America textile producing areas, along with the New England boomtowns...By the mid 50's, Paterson was becoming a ghost town, with most its plants by that time moving down South to beat the unions where the already predominant cotton spinning factories already were...How much time did it buy them, though? By the mid 80's, a good number of the Southern plants were unionized, and the industry was looking to China and other offshore places...Gone!
Interesting video of the North Carolina textile industry, and also highlights about the N.C. State University College of Textiles, 296 graduates in 2012.
Excellent material, well composed! I work at Nester Hosiery in Mount Airy,NC where we have developed a new line of socks completely manufactured, in the US; supply line and all! Visit us at www.farmtofeet.com
Frankie Vernon Thanks for the comment! I'm aware of FarmtoFeet, because I'm also working right now on a documentary about Mt Airy. And Nestor Hosiery is part of this documentary!
