Probably one of THE most understated knives on the market right now. I have a black and orange model, I believe I picked it up on ebay for 13-14 dollars. It's not the prettiest knife, but by far one of the best cutting knives I own. You're pretty much paying for the steel of the blade, which is the most important part of a knife.
I was looking to add some flavor to my EDC collection without breaking the bank. The blade shape and the fact that it's a lock back which is different than all of my other blades, mixed with the budget friendly price make this a no brainer. Now I just have to decide what color combo to get.
Best edc blade (for the money) out there! I have lost 3 in the last probably 6-7 years. The last one was orange and I left it laying on a bench in Home Depot. Went back and it was gone. My only criticism is that I wish the blade steel were better and I would definitely pay more money to get that upgrade so I agree with you totally! Losing this last one and carrying one of my many other folders has got me feeling like something's just missing. I don't care how expensive a knife I carry, I miss that dang dozier!!! I know this is an older vid, I was actually just doing some research to find out if maybe they had upgraded the steel possibly before I ordered one... or maybe two new ones... Like I said tho, no matter how many I lose or how many times I try to carry another blade, I always go back to a dozier as far as a pocket clip blade. I've always looked at them as sort of a "throw away" blade meaning that it doesn't break the blank to lose or be hard on them because of the price but I've just grown so fond of them over the past several years. Probably close to 10 years now actually. Ima go order another right now!!!!!
I use to look at my Dozier as a beater knife until I realized it checked all the boxes of a food prep/hunting knife and it goes with me on every hunting and camping trip. Its just a dang slicer. I carry a fixed blade usually outdoors but this goes into my pack because its light, small and the blade shape is my favorite. Just have not found a folder that competes with it for size, weight and shape for me.
Had this knife for over 3 years. This is my work knife, its super light, holds an edge and use it to cut a variety of materials in construction. Also works as a good bottle opener. Best 20 dollars I ever spent, if I lose it, oh well.
I bought one of these at scout camp almost 13 years ago and it's still going strong. Don't carry it often, just because I need a bit more blade and faster deployment. But I absolutely love this knife.
I'm not a huge "knife guy" but I do have a number of folders ranging from around $60 to $160 or so, but this past year I've gravitated towards cheaper beaters for EDC. I love my RAT II and CRKT Squid for EDC. They're both surprisingly good for the price, plus if I lose one or have it confiscated (I work in a secure building, but so far no problems) it's not the end of the world and easily replaced. I'm going to get one of these and add it to my EDC rotation.
Absolutely! I’ve got mine in D2 and it’s perfect for backpacking. Very lightweight, relatively thick in the spine all the way to the tip and very sharp right out of the box. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. Can’t be beat. I preferred it over my Min- Bugout and Spyderco Para3 lightweight.
I actually own 3 KBAR DOSSIERS..2 with thumb studs drop points ..1 with thumbhole ... I love these because they're so light no steel liners... I purchased these over the MUCH OVERPRICED &OVERRATED Benchmade Bugout ..$150+
Nice to see you again. also not a cheap knife snob !!! I believe channels like yours get people to start building up b o b thoughts, bags, knives. when we see you can get started with cost effective items.... then we're more likely to start. Thanks much and blessings sir !!
Just got one. I'm amazed at how awesome this is. I loved it so much I got a second one already same day. So sharp, great lock. eBay and Amazon have great choices.
Ordered a Dozier and a Rat-1 about 4 years ago and still have both but EDC the Dozier all the time. When the Dozier arrived, I played with it for a little while (you know how that is lol), then stuck it toward the rear of my front pocket and forgot about it. Maybe an hour later I thought, "yeah, lemme check out that knife again!" I start looking, checked my pocket, checked the box, this pocket, that pocket, etc. Same pockets over and over and I started getting frustrated lol. My wrist didn't even contact the knife as I searched the pocket it was in. Of course I eventually found it, but wow. Point is, it was TOTALLY undetectable: the weight didn't pull down enough to feel it, the profile didn't push against me, the length didn't poke when I sat or moved, just nothing. EDC perfection! Yeah maybe there's better, but I don't need it. A day or so later, the RAT-1 arrived. But it was always telling me I had it, always felt it. Great tank of a knife, but it's with my outdoor gear.
Thanks for so often being thorough enough to mention when a knife has a real 90 degrees spine. There doesn't seem to be many other reviewers who pay attention to that. On some jobs, whenever I don't wanna use my fingers on some "mystery" surface, that square spine really comes in handy. Sometimes you just gotta scratch away some paint, dried off powder... mold.... or worse (don't ask), to get to something you need to work on or inspect. It just makes my knife a better and more versatile tool, at least for what I do with it. Great review as usual, love the channel. Thanks for sharing with us.
I just got mine (Amazon $22) and I have to say, you either took a torx to the pivot screw or have been manipulating the blade till it loosened up a bit because out of the box the average Joe "wont" be able to flick the blade open like you did, you have the only video on this knife where its actually being done!!!! Now for the money this is a very well made EDC pocket knife, it feels good in the hand and there is no play or give at all in the blade when it is open, though its not dull its also not that sharp either, going to run it on the Work sharp when I get a chance. The bottom line, this isn't a fun knife to play with but once you get an edge on it I cant see it not being quite useful for whatever you need it to do! Thanks this was a very helpful review.
I own from para 3 to byrd cara cara 2,polestar and many other edc knives. For me the best all around is the dozier. Not only because of the price. I think it has better ergonomics than paramilitary 2 ,para 3 and many other expensive knives. Hard to beat it!
This is a Great Knife.Ive had mine for a few Months.Ppl go crazy wanting 200-300 Knives or talk abt Edge retention or Steel hardness and 95% aren’t using Knives for Batoning or Stabbing Through Steel Drum Tops. Most of us are Opening Amazon Boxes or cutting paracord etc.
Bought two a couple years ago, love 'em. Gave the orange model to my son. I moved the clip and thumb stud to the other side for him without a problem (he's a South Paw). Bang for the buck, it's awesome! I prefer it to my heavier knives while wearing shorts in the summer b/c of it's light weight. The only downside is it has a slower deployment being an unassisted lock-back. That's not a big deal to me. Overall, I'm very happy with mine. Might "need" to pick up a couple more in different colors. Thanks for the vid!
I am sure the KaBar knife is good, but I think most of the Ganzo knives are just as good if not better. G10 scales and 440C (done correctly)... Other than that I agree that the Dozier is a good value.
My only problem with Ganzo is they are straight up Chinese rip offs of USA knife maker designs. Spyderco PM, Benchmade griptilian, OKC Rat. I know there are only so many knife lines out there and many knives look similar, but they don't even try to hide it. I am sure they get the job done, but I have a hard time supporting that. Just a personal thing.
I agree, have been carrying the orange version for years. Also have the smaller one, fits in a pocket survival kit nicely. I also agree, add upgrade with full flat and a little better steel.
I just started knife shopping 5 months ago and I'm reluctant to spend over $30 for a knife. So far the budget knives get the job done for me. Got a couple $10 dollar Coast knives from Ross, Sanrenmu 710, Kershaw Brawler and Speedsafe, Schrade 104L, Ontario Rat, SOG mini Aegis, and Ganzo G720(my favorite). Your knife reviews have been good, so I may look into getting this knife.
As usual, an informative and captivating video. I find this knife interesting myself and would buy one. Whatever someone likes or wherever they shop, if one keeps their eyes open they can find budget priced blades or even higher priced blades at "budget blade" prices. I have purchased knives from online sources and locally and have paid a fair price for some and others I got for a steal. I own a CRKT Special Ops Cruiser and a Hammond Cruiser because I only paid $10 for each. In contrast I paid $20 for a Schrade SCHF311 and I love it. And thanks to you, I had been looking for a Kershaw Bear Hunter 2 (out of production as you know), and I ended up treating myself to an SCHF55. I felt sort of guilty until I opened the box and held it in my hands. All the reviews played in my head and I was on a cloud, but I digress... I was happy to have paid the prices I did, but I usually pay less by being patient and keeping my eyes open.
Just picked this knife up and man it’s awesome for the price point, perfect throw in your pocket and forget edc. Simple design. Blade and back lock and that’s it. Doesn’t even have washers! And was super sharp out of the nice little box. Don’t expect a sweet flick open action but who cares.
Really like these knives (have 2 with the stud and one with the thumb notch) and have used them to field dress deer. It's usually COLD in PA, so the hunting coat comes off and you want to work fast-this knife does it, quickly and efficiently. Thanks for the vid...
On sale at Big5 the Kershaw Zing (Martin design) is an incredible $20 knife. Feels good in the hand and pocket. The assisted open is smooth and fast. Easy one-handed close.
While the Ka-bar Dozier is a good knife, I think the Ontario Knife Company RAT-1 is a far better option. The RAT-1 can be bought on Amazon.com for $25.00. The RAT-1 is made from superior materials and craftsmanship, and you also have a longer blade with a much more useful clip point. And you can buy the RAT-1 in a multitude of different colors, and blade coatings. Then there isnthe RAT-2, whuch is about the same size as the Dozier. There are videos showing people repeatedly batoning through wrist size pieces of wood, 2x4's, and the folding and locking mechanisms not failing. Plus the knife have very good edge retention with the AUS-8 steel. And last but not least, the spine of the knife has a very sharp 90 degree spine that allows the user to strike a firesteel and create very good hot sparks.
I am a big fan of this knife. I gave away my first black handled one. These blue handled Doziers are not easy to find, in my experience. I know it will not be a valuable collector, but I am going to put this one away for a rainy day. I still like to EDC larger knives anyhow.
Hello again Arron I just received my Dozier in blue satin like yours today 08/31/2018 and I dont know how this one got by me but when I viewed your video I had to have it and you are right I love it:-) for the money it is great thanks again for the tip
I bought this for myself and eventually put it in my wife's bug out bag as a back up since it goes with her blue mora companion. yes she has a color coordinated survival kit.
Nice….I would never had even considered it prior to watching your "reunion" with this blade. For $20.00, I'll take the chance on a sight-unseen purchase. Ordered the foliage/black. If I like it, I'll snag the blue as well.
My most carried knife for the past 2 years or so. Great value, super lightweight. I own 2. Need to grab that stainless finish with blue scales, looks great.
Joseph B. Wha da ya know! I received the dozier three weeks ago, and the day I got it, I sliced my finger closing it... I was holding the knife like an ice cream cone, and I held the lock down, and swung the blade forward, and it dug into my finger... I'm an idiot.
Zeref Dragneel They definitely don't neglect these cheaper knives when it comes to sharpening. Them, Kershaw, and CRKT aren't half bad. I'd put Kershaw at #1 just because they rock the $50 and under knife category for folders.
I called to one of the on-line arms shops in my country. They told me that Ka Bar dont produce them anymore and they can't be found anywhere in Europe!?!?!? wtf
I love this knife, but have cut myself a few times closing it. I like to drop the blade down while pushing the lockback, sometimes the blade would swing and bump me. That being said, the knife is awesome for the price. It cuts really really well because of the thin blade grind. Very good for most people's uses I think.
I have this knife and prefer the Kershaw Amplitude 2.5. Is it as rugged? Probably not, but in terms of a daily carry knife, I find it more aesthetically pleasing, more compact, and more useful.
Since we're talking cheap knives, have you ever considered reviewing the pocketknives made by any of the major tool companies? Milwaukee, Dewalt, etc. I work in the HVAC field and I am in Home Depot all the time, you can grab these for 15-30 bucks and I use them every day. It helps when the company buys them for you! Love your EDC recommendations for when I'm not on the job, but when I'm working I abuse the hell out of those cheap "Tool Company" knives.
They make a great range of colors and blade types on these now. I also like the Kershaw Chill, Sanrenmu 710 and the Leatherman c33 are other great ones for this price too
That looks like a fabulous knife, and I really like that blue version. Regarding the color pink in scales, I was surprised by how many guys (not gals) enjoy owning a folder with pink scales. I don't think it's something exclusive to the female gender in this day and age. 👍
sasquatchvalley.iwarp.com/kb_fold.htm here is a place still selling them. Just did a search to see if they were still around. They are pretty rare nowadays
Love the dozier, not crazy over the blue but love the foliage green with black blade. You might want to look at the mini dozier, about half an inch smaller but very usable. Thanks for the vid-
Man how I got mine was I ordered a set of files on amazon for like 10$, and they sent me this knife with pale army green scales instead. They were like send us the knife back and we'll refund you. I was like but,now I want to keep the knife lol.
Purchased on your recommendation and my co-workers are slightly more at ease. Such a great office/work blade. The d2 esee avispa was maybe too large to pull out in mixed company.
Great review.I need buy a small and cheap edc knife, which you recommend, which in your opinion will be the best: Emerson 5k,Byrd Meadowlark 2,Rat 2,Kershaw Chill or Ka-bar Dozier? The opening method is irrelevant.
l bought this exact knife and love everything about it but one thing. no matter how hard i dig my thumb into the stud i cannot get the blade to move. I have to bring the blade out slightly with two hands then i can flick it with my wrist. Still a great value.
Nice video, I may have to pick one up. How about the CRKT Drifter? The stainless steel version can be had for $15 or less now, around the same for the G-10 version. Also for a few dollars more the Byrd knives are pretty awesome for the price.
I have a mini and the lock up is less than perfect. The blade steel is ok . If it was Cold Steel or Sog aus8 would be great. I wouldn't need anything more. The do get the most out of it. The Kabar heat treatment is a little soft... but for the price you can't really complain.
Timely video! I just started using this knife. But the blade is pretty stiff. I tried loosening it but it didn't change. Maybe it will have a smoother action with use? -Krik
It might, it is a little odd as you saw mine was smooth. I don't remember my other being overly tight. Hope you get it worked out. It is such a great little blade for $20.
awesome blade! I have been watching your channel for a Lil over a year now. I haven't had time to watch all of your older videos but the new ones I don't miss. I was thinking is there anyway u could do a series of videos of budget friendly gear that don't break the bank. with two kids and a wife who loves to spend money lol it is hard for me to spend money on gear that I would like to have. so if is possible u could bring back some older gear that would be great. take care
