For some reason it is hard to find a full video on how to fully start-to-end fly fish. RU-vid is full of "how to cast a fly fishing rod" but for a beginner like me, I need to know more than just that. Thank you for making a full tutorial video, it has really helped ease my learning process!

I hiked through an area in Scotland near Pitlochry. It appeared to have fishing holes ,,small ''Lochs'' bait shop . Wish I could have stayed on for a while. Funny story I was carrying a bamboo fly rod and was afraid it would get broken . SO I wrote a note and leaned it against the wee bait shop and walked on . Hopefully someone appreciated it and it saw good use.

Hey! Nice video. A few things, I took note your using a non-tapered leader? Why? Also why use fluorocarbon as your leader material if your fishing dries? (as you probably know, fluorocarbon sinks)

Thank you for the great video. I noticed that the line is coming out of the reel from the bottom, my line is coming out from the top (closer to the rod), is that an issue? I am new to the whole fishing things. Thank you
@randydossantos9764
@randydossantos9764 9 лет назад
Leader: Is he using a 3X tapered leader or 3X fluorocarbon un-tapered? From looking at the spool it does not looked tapered. If it's just 3X through and through his leader looks like it's casting well. That makes things a lot easier than trying to attach 6 to 7 lengths of leader/tippet line. I build my own leaders. Not big fan of prefabbed tapered leaders. By time change a few flies it's not all that tapered any more and I'm attaching more line anyway trying to figure out where on the taper the line's diameter sits at when I need to add more length to the leader/tippet.
@marcelchaloupka
@marcelchaloupka 5 лет назад
Randy dos Santos from what is can see, he is wet fly fishing so an untapered fluorocarbon leader
@ThePorpoisepower
@ThePorpoisepower 5 лет назад
I only use 3 pieces for my personal leaders... I also keep my leaders on the flies and change both leader and fly at the same time. Seems nuts I know, but I like to alternate styles of flies I'm fishing with... and I'm not constantly cutting flies off and then changing my leader, just because I want to switch from a surface popper to bead headed nymph or wooly bugger.

I have just started to cast with a fly rod (on land). Even when I feel like I got the cast right I can´t get alot of line out, not like in this video. Feels like the line isn´t sliding as good as this guys line does. Am I doing it wrong or could it be the equipement?
@Kajanaclub
@Kajanaclub 7 лет назад
Maybe just takes a bit more practice to get it rolling. :) But definitely some lines are better and easier to cast than others. One thing that could help is to film your own cast from the side, and see if you stop the rod in right moments and so forth :)
@brianr9529
@brianr9529 4 года назад
Make sure the line weight is the same as the rod. Both 8 or whatever your rod is. And you need to get the length of line right to load the rod before it really shoots the line out. Too little and it won't bend the rod enough. And let go of the line on the final cast just as you feel it pull at your fingers. Too early it'll just fall down and too late it won't go far enough.

At the tip of the rod they pull it, that's the quickest way to break a rod ?????? must be a shit rod then, as the amount of bending a rod does when a fish runs , puts more strain on a tip than that.

@justin-db7hw
@justin-db7hw 9 лет назад
Theres no magic way to make the leader extend fully. After you have a good loop/candy cane and a proper backcast(imperative for the loops shape) it's all about power application. Too much power and the loop hits the end of the line way way too soon, not enough and the loop will be pitiful and not turn over. Too strong a backcast the loop goes around 360 and either tangles or smacks the water, too weak and the fly doesn't have enough power to turn over.

Its kind of murky when you describe the rod going "back past vertical". If you pause the videos during your fail and successful casts as the rod is behind you, you will find that your standard cast is well past vertical and in fact appears to be at almost the same angle as the cast you failed on? When you say "vertical" you do mean the rod is oriented vertically (or perpendicularly to the ground)?
