I have to be honest. when i first clicked on this video, i thought. there's no way,, but let's give a listen anyways. I have to say. i am very impressed! you do this song wonderfully. I absolutely love this song, you have done Mr. Greg Lake great justice. I am sure he would be very proud to see how well you play his music. That's taken alot of time to perfect, but by joe, you have done it. hat's off to you !!
@tipafew2many Thanks! I'm humbled by the fact Greg Lake played it in concert on a 12 string. This 15w amp with built in chorus is the real hero. Makes my acoustic/electric come to life. Sometimes less is more:)
@303y03 Your the only one I've found here who plays it close. It my be your version but when you go to the 10 fret it's the bottom 3 notes then open, not 10th fret to the 8th fret. Still your playing turns me on and I've taken A LOT from this post. Thanks
Great job. If you want to see the master at his best, check out this gem on RU-vid. Greg Lake Sound Check Feb 1993. Then go to 2:44, then 3:00. I can only hope one day I can finally play it.
@l2string Just noticed that error. Alot easier strumming open strings. I had put Martin medium wound bronze on just before recording. Hands were stiff after playing. I have since switched to Elixirs. This guitar sounds better with every year that goes by, but it is beat. Frets worn, bridge lifting. Guitar tech wouldn't touch it last time. Still manages to play/sound well. Good axe.
That's just beautiful. I'd love to be able to play that, but I've just started my guitar journey. How long did it take you to learn this and all the chords? I really like that guitar also. I'm going to have to check into one like you have on ebay or Amazon. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks Becky - took awhile to learn - drop D tuning - I picked most of it up watching the California Jam version (on youtube). Guitar is nice, but the newer ones (APX-5A) didn't sound as well when I tried them out a few years ago. Have to try before buying - one guitar to the next all sound/respond differently. I swear by Elixir strings - they often "wake up" a dull sounding guitar.
Hi, this has been great for me. Just one question if that's ok. At 50 sec although you move both ring and pinky is the only difference betwween the 2 chords that the B string is now open? It looks as if the E string is held down by the pinky before the change and then held down by the ring after the change. Thanks again.
@nootaramus Thanks- This is just my Yamaha APX and a 15w Line 6 amp on the factory "clean" preset. Good reliable combo. Maybe when I hit the lottery :)
Next time you're in drop D, hold 1, 2 and 3 on the third fret (pinky), 6 on the first (index), and pluck just those strings. You should see where that chord goes in this song ("Still, ...) That should get you to about 99.5 % accuracy to Greg's style.
@zzzzzzzz594 Cool!. Check out all the live Greg Lake vids on here. Lucky Man, etc. Low E is dropped to D. You can grab different voicings of D and G chords, among others.
@rebarne1 No Bs. Went through numerous bad amp/guitar combos to find this one. Probably has alot to do with cramped confines it was recorded in. Check out my other videos w/this guitar/amp. Search "I believe 303y03". I tweaked them best I could for a live choral performance. Really sings on that one.
Hey, bud ... RU-vid won't let me plug in my video's address and I can't do it via video response. Search for Eric Shelman and Still you turn me on ELP and you'll find it. Thanks, man. Give me your name and I'll properly credit you!
