This is such a great song! A devoted love song, with more than a touch of midlife desperation about all the things we lose faith in. Keep in mind, this song came out in 1983, so watch Sting's reaction/crowd interaction with the lyric (1:06) "you could say I'd lost my belief in our politicians," shaking his head in frustrated disbelief, and continuing "they all seemed like game show hosts to me." What crazy prescient lyrics, like they literally came true. But putting aside all those things that we can't rely on because of seemingly inevitable disappointment, investing in relationships is a place of love and hope. And sometimes it feels like maybe that's all we got.
