Sting is one-of-a-kind. A true artist. Who has the ability to express both facts and express it in a way that makes it both interesting and beautiful. The Police were incredible. But without Sting they would never would have existed. Sting was the driving force in communicating the feel, the expression of the vibe, the clarification of the total sum of the musical art. Sting is an all time Legend.
Here is an interpretation. It is about philosophy vs human relationship. It is about cynicism vs sincerity and how society tend to see sincerity as "something wrong". It is about the relation between a player (the cynic), her and him (the singer character). The player seeks truth in playing chance and life. He ultimately doesn't really care for her or others. The singer see the cards and knows the rules but he doesn't like the game. He only seeks her.
This was from the 1993 album „Ten summoner‘s tales“, the same one that had „fields of gold“ on it. The chord progression and the guitar riff and of course the double-meaning lyrics are legendary! That‘s what I call good songwriting!
I was at his concert in the front row and it was the first song! He was looking me in the eyes!!!!!!! I melted !!!!!!!🤣❤💕🥰 what a beautiful memory ....... unforgettable!
Fantastic reaction and insight as always! Most of us were drawn to the sound of a song in our youth rather than contemplating lyrics deeply. Kudo's to you Sammy for the recommendation.
This is one of my all time favorite reactions to a song. My son, last night, overheard me talking about this song because my other son’s friend dropped everything to pursue making a living playing poker. He streams etc. He’s doing very well financially. Regardless, I was talking to my son and my other son who plays guitar said that ironically he was just watching an interview with the writer of the guitar part Sting is playing the bass in the song. He pulled it up on RU-vid to show me how he was just watching it because it’s rated as the best guitar riff of all time and it’s used by many types of different musicians and they all play it wrong. It’s super difficult to play. I love how you breakdown the lyrics. It really is a masterpiece as you say. Thank you.
From her low crown notes, Diana Ankudinova conquers the high notes of the whistle register. Performed by Diana, it sounds fantastically beautiful in the new song - The Day You... I think you have already forgotten how unique and excellent the voice of this young lady is.
Fil, I'll scratch this off my list. I have a further 3 tracks from Sting waiting. - Sammy has such good taste. Sting is a clever writer and he has a wicked sense of humour. Having been a teacher, he well read. #QcumberSquad #Sting - Fil, I'm off back to the study.
You should listen to Sting “Moon Over Bourbon Street”. He read a book, then the book was turned into a movie. Listen to it and see if you can figure it out. You get Sting now, go down the Rabbit hole.
As you grow, the abillity to get the deeper meaning grows.English is altso my second language,so...that did not help😂...but I altdo like that you can put your own meaning to things sometimes...like art
Now you know why Ren gets his inspiration from. Sting was an amazing lyricist and guitarist too. You should listen to Wrapped Around my Finger and Russians by Sting next.
I'm with you mate , I though love aswell, when your young your singing along and not caring about the words your saying so some words you say aren't even the right words they just sound the same and just fit , as you get older you catch your self saying them a think my God that makes no sense at all , so you look at the lyrics and all is good in the world now you know what the right lyrics are lol
Actually the song is for the movie "Leon" It talks about how Leon live his life as professional Hitman... It explains how his life is a big game a professional hitman who adopte a young girl after her family was killed and discover how normal life is . Both played by "Jean Reno" and young "Natalie Portman"
I just stumbled across this reaction and in the first 5 seconds I could tell you're a fellow South African😂 (please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm posting this based purely on your accent and energy)
I think its about a man whos glory days may be gone, or at least he thinks they are, as the king in his hand and its faded memory. He knows how he got there but not what made it so special. He knows that he wrote some songs and played some shows, but thats not the shape of his heart, or why he did it or what it meant to him. It may even be about his relationship with a woman or dissatisfaction with his life. In short i think its about a man whos lost his fire.
