And I just finished full install with blind spot side cameras on my 20th anniversary JLU 392 yesterday. Glitchy radio. Finally someone with good tech advice. Was searching YT most of the day yesterday. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! I wanted to ask if you had updated firmware yet. Every once in a while, mine will glitch and not recognize CarPlay. It will charge, but the phone has an error that says unsupported or unrecognized device. I can usually resolve it by restarting the phone, if not, the quick reset with the paperclip on the front of the radio has always worked for me. The main reset procedure I laid out in the video really helped to resolve the camera quirks we were experiencing and haven't had a CarPlay quirk since. I hope either one resolves the quirks for you - please keep me posted!!
@@carstereochick Did all the steps you demonstrated, including the tiny button. No luck on CarPlay nor will it recognize the firmware update. Tried with apple cord too. I will give it a few days only because yesterday side cameras didn’t activate with turn signal, but today it does. I’m more concerned getting the firmware updated, then maybe CarPlay will work. Kinda stuck.
Just confirming you're using the dash mounted USB, correct? I would pull it apart and try connecting directly to the head unit USB, sounds like maybe you got something mixed up with the USB retention possibly.
@@carstereochick Maybe. I’ll give that a go tomorrow. Taking it out of the dash again isn’t desirable. Wire management is an issue on JL. I’ll keep you posted. If successful, pass it on on your channel. Thank you.
Hey would you still recommend this unit over other similar offerings? I'm specificly looking at the Stinger because of the TOSLINK output option. Are there other units you would suggest that have TOSLINK output now?
This is the only head unit I'm aware of from a reputable brand name that has the toslink connection. That has been the redeeming feature for us. We can deal with the quirks strictly because of the sound quality.
12 Ram 1500. I've had this unit installed for 3 days. I have noticed that it goes blank screen when reverse back to normal when connected to phone. If not connected it seems to do fine. I may try this reset of the RP4 CH11. Thank you. If anyone else has this issue please comment. Clock is ticking on the 60 day return.
When I did the reset the RPA-HD1 doesn’t show on the screen? I cycled thru and reset the other 2 but it’s like it doesn’t see it? My PAC- LINK PL1 lights up green but I have no light on the HD1 module and my stinger doesn’t see it.
This happened to us with one of our clients before we figured out we had a faulty PL1. At one point I remember John flicking it and it came back to life and then we could see the HD1 again in the menu. Initially we were able to get it working again by disconnecting and reconnecting everything, but after a few ignition cycles and testing it we found it was still working intermittently. At that point PAC's technical support department and John concluded we probably had a faulty PL1 and we swapped it out. That swap corrected the issue our client was having and it sounds like you may be experiencing the same issue. I recommend reaching out to their tech support department to verify, but you may need to get that PL1 swapped out.
Once again I get the "no signal" camera issue that hijacks my screen the entire drive, tried the fix , nothing worked. So I took it out to look for a loose wire. Put it back in and now the screen will not come on, nor will the buttons light up. The pac- link module is flashing two yellow lights then a red and green light. I figured if it was a blown fuse that wouldn't come on either. Do you have any suggestions for me I am so frustrated, I have a $1,700 piece of plastic sitting on the rear seat. 😡🤬😖😩😫
I haven't ever run into any issues like that, usually just camera hiccups, but haven't seen any issues where the monitor/radio itself won't power up. Here's a thought. The only other time I've seen issues with an aftermarket radio intermittently powering up in the 2018+ Wrangler/Gladiator was when the AUX battery was about to fail. Ran into that with an Alpine radio being real quirky and turned out the little AUX starter battery was about to go. What year is your Jeep? Have you ever upgraded that battery? That or do you have an scan tool where you can read/clear any error codes that might be stored in the vehicle? Might just be a CAN bus error that needs to be cleared in the car. You could try a sleep cycle too. Reconnect everything, lock the car up, keep the key away from it and let it sit for at least 30 minutes or a couple hours. I've been able to clear up factory camera issues with the OEM radio just by doing a sleep cycle. These vehicles can be quirky.
I'm not sure I follow your question. It sounds like you're saying the unit turns on, but there's no audio/sound. Depending on what kind of car this is installed in and what other equipment you've installed with it, it could be that you didn't wire up the remote turn on lead to turn on the stock amp or aftermarket amp. If it's in a vehicle that does not have a factory amplified audio system and no aftermarket amp, you may either have an issue with one of your speakers or with your speaker wiring. If you have one speaker that is bad, or the speaker wire is shorted somewhere or the speaker terminal itself in the door is touching metal, that will cause MOST aftermarket radios to see a dead short and go into protect mode where it turns off the internal amp. That or maybe you accidentally have the audio set to optical instead of RCA. There are many reasons you could be having an issue. Hopefully that gives you some ideas on where to start.
I have Toyota Tacoma 2015 when I turn my car on it turns on,but right away the screen goes gray. I took a video if there’s any way I can send it to you.
Just to be clear - it's doing this as soon as you turn the car on? Or are you specifically only having this issue with the reverse camera or it's occurring right after you've tried to use the reverse camera and put it back into park? Do you have audio and control on the screen on sources like FM/AM or CarPlay? Or you can't even get that far because you start it up and immediately you have no picture? The video signal issue I was discussing in this video has a lot to do with how the camera gets retained in the 2018+ Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator because the OEM camera is an LVDS camera and gets retained through the HDMI input. The 2015 Tacoma has just a basic analog camera going through radio's composite camera input. There is a voltage adapter in the kit for the camera, it's an RPA-VA1. If the issue you're having is only with the camera or only after you've tried to use the camera, I would test it with everything apart and see if manipulating that RPA-VA1 adapter has any affect. If you're telling me you can't get picture on the main screen for any sources, double check all of your connections. With the ignition/radio off, I recommend disconnecting and reconnecting to make sure everything is properly seated. Pay close attention to that blue LVDS cable going from the main unit to the monitor. If that is getting kinked in any way you can have issues with the display.
