Sorry for your loss bro💔 You should use 3 inch of sand bed as substrate, they have billions of surface area for bacteria to grow and also culture dynitrifying bacteria which use nitrates faster than live plants. I am keeping fish from 12 years and i rarely lose my fish because of water parameter. There is no downside of keeping bare bottom tank if your biological filter is huge but there are alot of benefits of keeping deep substrate. And sting ray love sand bro.
You covered such an important point regarding the fish being helpless and totally our responsibility. Many times we feel lazy or bored and may tend to neglect, postpone or ignore tank maintenance,I hope all your viewers after seeing this think twice before doing anything like that. I too faced a similar death of my Stingray,it was my baby . One point I couldn't agree with is that stingrays are hardy, because according to me,they are the most delicate just because they are messy and yet very sensitive to water quality. this is what most rays keeper makes mistakes. I have been keeping monster fish since 30 years. when you keep stingrays or arowana or peacock bass always use zeolite media in one separate filter coz of these fishes produce more waste what zeolite does is it keeps ammonia under control so even tho with food waste or fish waste if somehow ammonia sparks then zeolite will control that level and you get time to bring it control by water change. its very import to keep this media specially with these fishes. I'm from fb fang shui world of water Gujarat trust me I have been through all these and after finding a zeolite solution I never had any problems
Same thing happened with my black diamond stingray she didn't eat food almost two months and the only medicine is daily 50% water changes I've done now she's super active and aggressive eater..
