This is the best french knot tutorial I have ever seen. I used to shy away from them and normally replaced them with beads. Today I did french knots on a Dimensions kit and enjoyed it so much. Thank you so much 🤗

Loved spending time with you today. Love this design and great to see it close up. I do love french knots and bullion knots too. It's interesting to see how you roll you piece of work to hold it for stitching. So thankyou. Xx

Thanks for this eye opener regarding French knots. I learned that the thread has to be wrapped around the needle three time. It has never occurred to me to question that. Wrapping the thread only once makes them so much neater. I just did a few French knots in a 25 ct project and they actually look nice 😊😊

Great job again of demonstrating French knots. I don’t find them scary as some seem to, but I always enjoy learning and really appreciate you taking the time to do videos where you show how to do things and greatly enjoy just watching you stitch in general. Thanks for doing the purple ones also because for some reason I could really see those done well. Thanks!

They weren't really bad to begin with....I'm just a little picky about my stitches,even if it's a full coverage. Really enjoyed your tutoral...looking forward to your next video 🥰

I am so glad to see the way you carry and weave the floss. I do much the same but always wonder if it is the correct way to do it. That old ‘rule’ about having a clean back. And I was also glad to see how you dealt with the knot. Me too! Lovely work as usual, Sarah!

You are indeed a master of the needle! It was so pleasing to the eye to see your work up so very close & see just how perfect your crosses & specialty stitches are ❤️. Thank you for the special demo of French knots, I have done them often on embroidery however I hold my thread with the left hand until almost the thread is pulled right through the fabric, just letting it go at the last minute. Your work as usual is gorgeous, many thanks, cheers 😍😘❤️🥰💕😊

Lovely stitch along, it would definitely be great to see more. The great thing about watching as apposed to reading how to do a stitch is when things don’t quite work as they should you get to see how to put thing right. That is such a great advantage. You stitch in such a lovely calm atmosphere that it feels like anything is possible. 😊🧵🪡

I actually put the needle through a strand of the fabric so that the won’t pull through the fabric … I’ve seen them pop through the other side regularly. I was actually taught that way.

I prefer being able to do French knots without having to pierce the fabric - they seem more centered on the spot they're "supposed" to be in. But, there are certain combinations of thread thicknesses and fabric that really need that support. This combo of thick Monaco and a 2 strand French knot works pretty well using the same hole.

Such timing! I'm few stitches away on my current project before doing french knots (for the 2nd time, with my first time I did only 2 knots but it's not good because I looped the thread on the needle 2x and it's too bulky and I don't really know if what I'm doing is right even if I watched videos prior 😅 ). This is perfect! Thank you Ms. Sarah. 😊

My only problem with French Knots is if they go wrong and I have to take them out. I've since learned not to do too many at one time. That seems to help me because I don't have to undo so much. I did start work on a pattern with 28 count fabric. I don't know what I was so worried about. It's not as hard as I thought it would be.

Fabulous instructions! I have a couple of patterns, probably a few, that call for French knots. I am a new stitcher and everyone has been telling me I need to get beads but your video was just ideal. I just subscribed and I hope that when I do one of my future flosstube videos I can share what I just learned from you.
@StitchinMommy

I'm so glad this was helpful! Yes, sometimes beads can be a nice substitute, but French knots don't have to be scary. :) They seem more appropriate and easier than beads in some situations.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful stitching. Do you have any videos on how you surge your fabric edges or other prep for your new projects? I’ve used the glue type sealer but I hate the smell of it. Thank you!
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy Год назад
I have an overlock machine, so serging the edges of my fabric is as easy as running it through the machine. If you have a regular sewing machine, you could zig zag around the edges, or you could hand stitch a blanket stitch around the edge. I have also seen some people who are using fairly soft fabric fold over the edge and baste it down with a running stitch. All good options!

Would you consider doing a tutorial on Mill Hill projects? You seem to do well with them. I find them to be daunting.
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 2 года назад
I could try to put together a vlog style tutorial when I stitch my Pretzel Mill Hill, so I can cover all the different aspects of stitching a kit from start to finish. In the meantime, you can checkout Calico_Whimsy here on Flosstube - she stitches lots of Mill Hills (more than me) and has shared how she goes about working with them. It doesn't look like she has any dedicated tutorial videos, but she includes tutorials within her regular videos and sometimes includes what she talks about in the title of the video or the description box. ru-vid.com/show-UC6ZSolc9PeB5PMM6bbXtbbg I hope that helps!

Love your work it’s beautiful, but stitching in hand how do you keep your fabric clean? Without getting oils from your hands.
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy Год назад
I do try to make sure my hands are clean when I stitch, but I will also wash finished pieces that use DMC and took awhile to make - namely full coverage designs - to get out any excess oils.

I’m so glad to see something other than all x’s. Your work is beautiful 😍. Question: are the specialty stitches shown on the pattern or are they your choice? Thank you for your time and creativity. Blessings 🥰
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 2 года назад
This pattern is charted with all of the specialty stitches. I'm pretty much stitching these as charted - just using my own choice of colors since they don't provide you with specific colors. The Victoria Sampler has lots of great designs that incorporate a few specialty stitches in with the regular cross stitch, if you're interested in trying some. :)

@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 2 года назад
This is 28 count Dove Grey Monaco. It's not very easy to find right now, but any 28 count evenweave would be a nice fabric to choose since there will be a few elements that are stitched over 1.

Sarah, do you go down in the same hole you came up in? I thought you said you do at the beginning of the video. I always thought that you don’t because you could your knot through. Maybe I am missing something? Lol
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 2 года назад
I like to go down in the same hole if I can because it seems like the knot is more centered in its place that way. I do mention the option to catch a strand of fabric before going back down if you're doing French knots directly on unstitched fabric, because those ones less likely to stay put. This Monaco fabric has pretty thick strands and smaller holes, and since I was doing a 2 stranded knot, they seem to stay in place.
@StitchinMommy
@StitchinMommy 2 года назад
I suppose I also get away with it because I have a very loose tension. Seems to be how I can stitch in hand also. :)
