New here..and I completely relate to how you came to stitch meditation. Slow stitch, hand embroidery, etc is the only thing that has enabled me to slow my brain. My type A need for perfection made other hobbies I tried (painting, knitting etc) just gave me more stress. Hand stitching is just quiet and focuses my attention, time goes by peacefully. And I keep my pieces small, too, otherwise its as you said…a project that causes stress. Its like you have watched my evolution from stress to peace and put it into words. Thank you💖💖💖💖

There is this crazy magic that happens with stitch....especially when you let go of perfection. I have two Facebook groups if you want a bigger community. Stitch Meditation and 100dayStitch Meditation Challenge. Both are full of beautiful people

I found this video at the right time , I am going through some rough moments. I love hand sewing ,but always thought that I have to have a project. But you made me realise today, that I can relax and just enjoy the process, the materials, without any expectations of an end product. Thank you 😊 x

I've just got into slow stitching after years of cross stitch and other fabric pursuits and I found your video so helpful. It will take off the pressure to have a "finished" piece and allow me to just enjoy the process while improving my stitching skills. Off to google more about Liz. ❤

I am happy you liked it Samantha! Apologies for taking so long to reply, I was teaching out of the country and just now getting back into the flow. Stitch Meditation is a little different from slow stitch....they are cousins I guess you could say. The main difference is that Stitch Meditation is meant to be a way of meditation similar to a walking meditation. Stitch is the rhythm that aids meditation for those like me who have a mind that needs help to slow down.

I get so caught up in “planning” (choosing the pieces and add-ons to make it look good) that Im mentally worn out and/or out of time to get to stitching 🫤 its that perfectionism that kills the “easy” part of what should be a relaxing time. Im working on it but its a challenge.
@Textileevolution
@Textileevolution 5 месяцев назад
Two of the hardest things to let go of are planning and perfection...you are not alone in that. Letting go and seeing what emerges can feel incredibly stressful because it takes us out of the comfort of what is known into the unknown. Some things to ponder for you: Why does it matter if it looks good? Who gets to define 'good' for you? Perfection is a learned behavior. It is often culturally considered to indicate superior moral or intellectual status but it is unattainable and at the root of so much unhappiness. You may want to try stitching on one single fabric rather than creating a collage. If your fabric has a design stitch over it with no regard to it....sometimes it is helpful to stitch from the reverse side. Trust your self above all.
