Oh Beth, what a beautiful heirloom you have made! My grandmother made two English flower garden quilts all by hand stitching. My mother started one but never finished, and I was fortunate enough to inherit the shoebox which holds the blocks. You inspire me to pull it out and see what I can attempt to do. Thank you always for sharing!

It's stunning! You can't tell which ones are old and which ones are new. You're very brave to go zipping along without paper templates. The Grandmother's Flower Garden always brings back memories of 40 years ago, stitching in the ditch on my grandmother's same style quilt top from the 1930s. It took "forever" to finish. Thanks! P.S. We just got back from a ski trip to Breckenridge, where I cut up fabric for 3 quilts while the kiddos were on the slopes. 😉

I have made many of these grandmother flower garden quilts in the past. Lots of cutting (I cut as I went along) and many happy hours spent quietly in the evenings hand sewing. During my husband's heart surgery and recovery time I hand sewed everything together. I did the same as you filling in the top and bottom large gaps with partial motifs. It didn't need to have borders as it was large enough for a queen or even a king. Creativity was so good to my soul at that time! Thank you, Beth, for sharing your work of art.

Oh my it’s a stunning quilt! I started a quilt like this a year ago I set it aside to do other projects. I’m not really good at hand sewing so I’m putting it off but I believe this is the inspiration and motivation I needed to start up this project again. It won’t be perfect but I was told done is better than perfect 🙂

Love the look with half flowers! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that done before and I really like it! I like to knit also. When I was about 10 Elizabeth Zimberman was doing her knitting shows on PBS. And that was all black-and-white back then. My mother taught me to knit but she had no interest in quilting. Although she sewed And taught both my sister and me to sew also. I truly enjoy your videos and love the glimpses of your garden the other day.

What a beautiful GF Garden Quilt. I made one also. It took me 4 yrs. I was also working at the time. I put it on my bed in the spring. I also made a block and framed it for my wall to match. Got 1st place in the fair. I was pleased with both. It will be willed to my granddaughter when I pass. Always love the older quilt patterns. Want to do a Drunkards path next. Thank you for sharing. It's simply stunning and to answer your question, I don't think you need to put a border around it to...you've filled in the sides which makes it look balanced and unique. Such a treasure to have!! Beth, you've outdone yourself again.

A beautiful quilt. I'm doing a similar hexagon quilt but with the cardboard left until the last. I find hand sewing very peaceful. Carry on doing what you are doing. Love the videos. I also knit and crochet.

Hello Beth, great work of this quilt. A lot of work to do on this quilt. But it's going to be even more beautiful when you're done. Then it already is, I like the way you finished off the sides of the quilt with making half flower pieces. It balances the quilt off nicely. What a beautiful quilt, it just seems odd to me that there are no paper pieces in the hexagons. I'm either behind the times, or it's an English thing. Variety makes life interesting! 😅 ❤👍from Somerset UK
