Excellent advice. In similar circumstances I have resorted to small increases in canvas side to the right by using the crop function and either content aware fill or blending in content on the far left to the right (then cropping the left side out). It makes more sense to do it your way if one has been panning and has multiple images. Note to self, continue to pan and shoot as long as practicable. Definitely, an amazing result when you stitching it together into a panorama. Nice job!

Ah yes, I know what you mean. I’ve done that before in other circumstance when I didn’t have multiple images to stitch together. I always enjoy watching other RU-vidrs add content to their images like you mentioned. Thanks for mentioning that. Content aware works so well sometimes. It’s nice to hear from other creators what they do.

Thanks! Great feedback to hear. I was hoping to hear that other wildlife photographers would be pumped to try this out too. It seems to work well for the scenarios I’ve been in. Depends on lens location and subject movement during the shoot. The latest programs seem to do a great job stitching everything together. What do you shoot with?

Good to see a more technical video on the use of Photoshop for wildlife photography. I often put the bird on a separate layer for editing and noise removal, but never thought of this approach. Another tool in the arsenal. Also great video layout and explanation.

Cool video! I sometimes take pictures of the surrounding of the animal in case I want to do such a panorama afterwards. It also has the advantage that the animal is not present in every frame and so you dont need to clone it out, which would be acceptable in many contests vs cloning which is banned.

This is a great video for those who photograph at a high frame rate. Curious to know if it would have been possible if you took images at 10fps or less 🤷‍♂️

This will work regardless of the frame rate. What is important is that the images overlap one another by 30% or more. 50% I think is a safe bet which is why a higher frame rate with a moving subject has a higher chance of stitching together more easily. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching! Yes, you can still stitch the images together without needing Lightroom. I find it easier to lay them out in Lightroom as a base for my editing process. I think most people who have Photoshop, already have Lightroom.

It ended up amazing! But, can I ask why you were shooting portrait? Was it because you were intending to do this process and it captured more of the sky? (sort of how landscape photographers shoot panos in portrait?)

Thanks Andy! I’ve done this process a few times. I was pumped to see the results in this scenario. I was shooting portrait to get the foreground colors (reddish from the thorn bushes) and depth as well the skyline. When the owl dipped down low, a horizontal shot didn’t capture the range of environment I wanted in a photograph. I like switch it up too and I’ve tried this technique before so in the end it worked out perfectly.

Random thought, because you used so many photos, if you did it all at once, I wonder if you could use Median on all the layers except the on with the bird as an option to remove the noise that everyone with Photoshop would have. Vs. some other plug-in/app.

@@MattShannonPhoto - right, so a technique to get rid of noise in photos is to use Median in Photoshop. It basically analyzes the photos and uses what is the "median" for each pixel. So, if it's raining or snowing, or there's noise, since it uses the median color for each pixel, if you took 10 photos of a scene, if the snowflake is only in that exact spot for 2 of the 10 frames, it will essentially remove those. I use it when shooting Real Estate if it's snowing, raining, etc. You can also use it in crowded spaces to effectively "remove" the people from the scene. These are all static shots, but I am curious if it would work in this instance. I'll have to give it a try myself. If not, I'll do what you did, ha. I made a video about using Median to remove snow and rain once before, but it was forever ago and I need to make a new one. All this is just off the top of my head and I'm at work, ha.

@@JonathanAyers I took a crash course on Median just now from a few other sources online. Funny thing is, I used this technique 4 or 5 years ago but completely forgot. It was for a few images in Venice when I was there. You are right that it is for static shots but that is a great question....would it work on the shots of the owls.....hmmmm I am away from the computer right now but I should plunk it in photoshop and try it... Great idea to try thank you!!
