The problem having all these options is that you starting getting paralysis by analysis. I spend more time trying to get the right tone and less time writing tunes.
The solution is to write the song before worrying about the mix. Pick a tone that sounds decent and then run with that. Plugins allow you to change tones after a song is recorded.
I'm still rocking the M-Audio Profire 2626 and getting kick-ass guitar tones with this (And other Amp Sims) This is older technology! All those people complaining that it must be a very expensive interface to get those tones are wrong! (I used to think the same way). It's how you set up your signal chain (like a real amp), How you record it, new/er strings, doubling, tripling, quadrupling your recorded guitar,, eq, etc. Plus the compressing from video editing, to youtube, etc. All affect the tone. Also must mention not to clip your signal before it goes into your DAW. You can get killer tones from ancient equipment! It's how you work with it. Buying expensive gear won't make you sound better unless you know what you are doing! :-)
OK, got this. A few observations after two days. 1) I was able to get that Darkglass sound on bass with just the Core presets that came with it. Literally just one of the SVT rigs and two overdrive pedals in the plugin. In fact, I like the Darkglass sound from this better than from the actual Darkglass plugin. To really simulate an amp tone with the Darkglass plugin the way I like it, I find that I have to use a Sansamp BDDI plugin in front of it. With this plugin, nope. Just sounds right straight off. 2) Sometimes I want to run bass through a high gain amp sim and do that kind of thing. It sounds WAY better in Toneworks than other sims I've used. It sounds like I'm actually plugging a bass into a distorted amp, not a plugin trying to sound like an amp. It's really f'ing close. 3) The overdrive pedals and the effects are great. OD pedals on most sims suck ass, imo. These actually sound very good. The Delay and the Reverb look like they might be modeled after Strymons(?) maybe? Whatever. The effects are awesome. 4) This is an inexpensive, yet very high quality step-up for anyone who's been f'ing around with Amplitube, Guitar Rig, or some of the free sims out there. Yes, you can get a good sound through those, but with Toneworks, it just takes less work. Plus the interface is brilliant. annnnnd, it;s relatively low CPU. Very surprising. A miracle? No. Pretty f'ing good? Yes.
I bought this plug-in the day it came out and only been using the stock presets. Honestly, they sound incredible for stock presets. I will say the tuner is not accurate at all but most amp plugin tuners are absolutely horrendous. I'm hoping the next update they do they will allow Kemper profiles/Axe Fx profiles to be added into the plugin form. It would be amazing to have this type of versatility for those that can't afford the Kemper.
Why does it sound like no amp effects at all on alot of them? I got the Kevin thrasher angel vivaldi and Kellen McGregor can you tell me if something I'm doing wrong or is there a certain setting step I have to do to get the tone to play their settings cause its installed properly everything is great I start playing through all of them and every present sounds bare. Lol
@@adalbertusignatius4967Lol maybe you haven't seen the same vids as me? :P I'm not saying I've heard anyone specifically saying that but I'm seeing a lot of claims like "a kemper replacement" etc. Not outright saying any Kemper profile can be loaded in but seemingly going to great lengths to not clarify on it.
@@scottydogg278 yeah but its a completely different software and they never said that. In the kemper pack you have only the snapshot of the rig and the amp knobs work like a post eq while they combined in the stl tonehub the rig captures with an analog modeler. So 2 completely different things, also easy to read on the website.
@@adalbertusignatius4967 For sure - I understand what the plugin is, I'm just saying that some RU-vidrs I've seen aren't too clear on their description of the plugin - STL Tones themselves definitely make it clear on their site :)
No doubt it's a great plugin but I'm good with my STL Will Putney plugin. I think this one would give me option paralysis, which would distract me from actually playing
I actually find myself playing more and tweaking less with this plugin. Only plugin where I find a preset I like and just play without changing anything.
The Will Putney pack in Tonehub is also (besides Andy James') one of the best. I am not sure if at the Will Putney plugin there are different tones, but the Andy James Pack and AJ Plugin is completely different (one is Arrival and one is Exodus tone).
I’m trying to use desperately this plugin to GarageBand for a full year already and has never worked. It must be something I don’t understand in the installation process with ilok or something… also I can open the program but my garage band doesn’t recognize my STL Tonehub plug-in as an Audio Unit although everything seems correctly installed ! 😅 can somebody help me with the « informatic side » of this stuff so I can play please ?
@@Windir-gp8wk me too! the only thing I find disappointing is the fact that they did not include a rebate for those of us who already purchased other stl plugins. Now that I have Tonehub, the Andy James is practically useless
Stl only lets you use it on one computer , so if you have a laptop desktop combo , you have to go through deactivating on one machine before activating on the other . It’s annoying when nureal gives you two activations and thu gives 3 .
The STL Tones stuff sounds great I just wish theyd have more generic packs rather than producer heavy packs for us guys that want a more raw amp sound and want to do the producing side ourselves, its a bit like using drum vsts with producer presets on and not really mixing them yourself, it sounds great but it sounds like someone else.
I found my dream tone with this. It's from the Colin Richardson Pack, preset #15. Check it. I can get everything from Megadeth to Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden tones from this vst. Actually has become my go to. Other amp sims? What other amp sims!
I think this video, after many, sold it for me. Seems robust and many different tonal options. I need some options because I’m getting pigeon holed with my Nameless Suite.
Can you tell me what DAW and version you are using. I have Cubase LE AI Elements 12 and I cant seem to get STL Tone Hub to record live into an audio channel in realtime/ is there a way to record the amp on the audio file/live/realtime as opposed to just pressing record and being able to change amp models after. If I add FX channel it does open STL Tone Hub but its non functional.
Also I subscribe to amp hub, but dont like messing around with configs to get my tone. Would this be a more streamlined way to play or record than amp hub? Seems like the difference is the amp sim part of amp hub / tone hub. Also can I use my amp thru a captor 8 in amp hub and turn off the amp section in the plug-in?
This doesnt work like that tho. Fluff got all the packs for free to demo but when you buy the plugin you have to buy the packs you like in order to actually use the plugin!
@@ChrisMusickx not true. When you buy the Tonehub plugin, you can demo every pack and then decide which one you want to buy. After the sales period you dont even have to buy the Tonehub plugin to try out all the packs.
Apologies for asking this. I have stopped playing guitar for a while and I am starting to play again. Rather new to the amp sims or plugins. I don’t have the need for recording. Do I need a DAW or can I just plug it into an audio interface and play it standalone (without DAW) ?
compare that to a 1500 kemper + 50 for each pack... kinda pissed that i bought a kemper a couple of months ago cause tonehub is pretty fucking awesome and i only used the northlane profiles anyway which i can now use on my laptop....
@@3101max but in Kemper you have the rig manager exchange, where you can fin more than 15,000 rigs for all kind of amps. Most of them better than the packs from choptones, atrium, etc. You have several options.
Stupid question possibly, but I downloaded the STL Tonehub, and use logic. How do I get STL Tonehub to show up in my plugins? I can use it as a stand-alone program, but can’t figure out how to use it in logic.
I would like to hear STLtonehub being used with a decent guitar plugged straight into a cheap audio interface like the m-audio 2x2 mobile pre I think the audio interface makes a huge difference in the response and feel of virtual guitar amps and we never hear a demo with the worst equipment possible or just more towards the low end of quality via the hardware If you can get the best sound with worst hardware then I’m sure more people would buy that program immediately
Hey can you help me by telling me what guitar I should get for my first time. I’ve been wanting to get one but I don’t know what to get. I also don’t know what type of amp I should get
Anything Schecter or Esp Ltd is pretty good. Consistent quality imo. Amp wise, if not playing out, and if you have a decent computer and interface setup, get some plugins. Some of which are free. If you want a hardware amp, peavey vypyr are really good.
Check out agile guitars, they're reasonably priced and you get a lot for your 💰. Otherwise, Ibanez and Epiphone are great places to start (depending on what style you're looking to play)
Hi! Could you please tell me, how can I record audio using this STL Tonehub - directly on the PC? It doesn't have any recording tool. I have guitar USB interface from Behringer currently, this is how I can play through STL Tonehub, but how to record the sound actually?
@@sydgriffiths1237 Thanks for the answer! Yes, I was searching more and I've found it out later ;) I've ordered Focusrite with Apleton Lite and Pro Tools, so then I could use STL as a plugin, hopefully it will sound great with this set, thanks again!
@@RiffsAndBeards bet you say how good it is though, demo or review is seen as the same really, people want to know what its really like, not just the good bits, we need to know negatives too, like how long it takes to get rid of that muddy sound it has.
it's hard to make such a claim now that we have RU-vid and spotify and literally have access to everything ever made and tons of good new music if you look for it
