These Gentleman are ALL LEGENDS & they are Legends for a reason, BALL'S of STEEL! Each & every one lead an amazing life, doing thing's 90% of driver's & crew folk's today would be to afraid to do. That's why this era, especially the driver's, are looked upon as Hero's, where as the driver's today are merely celebrities 🤷🏻‍♂️

This series is utterly wonderful. Try to imagine 20 years from now or even now and they gathered the next generation for a talk. It would be “we were playing this video game aaaand..”. boring. Too bad they didn’t give us the R rated get together. THANK YOU for this HISTORIC post.

honestly they could do another one with the guys that ran during the 80s and 90s and it would still just be as good. in the 2000's is when it got all mandated

@@cool3865 id love to get a story out of Jeff Gordon about the first time he met his sponsor…Dupont. a lovely pairing. By the 90s the pilots were mostly married men who toted their families around,everything was much more regimented. poor southern boys were pretty much replaced with rich mens kids. beer cans and liquor bottles in hand were widely replaced with video game controllers lol.

And you right, Brooks was very popular with the Ladies 😁 I was rootin hard for Junie's car, cause my 43 car was the Magnum, and I knew that barn door wasn't gunna win nuthin 🤮 I don't remember what happened to Brooks in that one, just remember Bobby won it.

When I first got into Nascar back in 1996, I had dreams of working for a race team in their shop offices. I had no skills besides working in a bank office. Stupid I know! Anyway, I sent a resume to every full time team and usually either got a standard postcard reply or no response at all. But the Wood Brothers sent me a very nice personalized letter signed by their office manager Kim Wood. I still have that letter somewhere and always pull for them. Glad to see they are returning to a full time schedule in 2016.

It’s so scary how bad the sport has gotten since the last of the old school left it’s just about money now and absolutely not interesting anymore as of 2021 what a shame!!!
@RB-ib3mo
@RB-ib3mo 2 года назад
To be fair it was always about the money, maybe even more so back then when they posted the purse. Look at most of the most famous drivers history (earnhardt, DW etc). They all raced to put food on the table and found that if they did well They could earn way more than a normal job. They've all said so themselves many times. Sponsorship was a huge thing always as well. No team could ever race without sponsorship. After saying all that I totally understand what you're saying and I agree that it's changed for the worse. I think it's more along the lines of nascar having gone so pc that any potential character's like these men can't be themselves. Nascar has sanitised the drivers, teams... everything to the point of them being almost like identical robots. The other thing is that the excellent safety of the cars now has made them think they're invincible. Safety first always but it has been an effect of it being so good. On the upside this next gen car looks like it's going to be a good thing. The racing is already better and the drivers have to show a bit of skill to drive. Time will tell if it will help bring nascar back to being as good as we all know it can be.

DenjaCol Based on a few comments said during one of the videos, I believe this was recorded in October 1998 between the Charlotte and Talladega races. They mention having just been at Charlotte and Talladega coming up. Even some of what gets talked about by DW as happening at Charlotte matches up with events in the 1998 Fall race.

At the end, there's a dedication to Dick Beaty, and they mentioned that he passed a few weeks after this filming. So, if you look up when he passed, that'll give you an idea of when in 1998 it was done.

These guys don’t understand the modern drivers because these guys don’t understand how most of us were raised. At 5yrs old was the first time I drove a car under a sponsor. We had a extreme amount of pressure on us from an early age. You were taught this is a job not a game or a playground. You were brought up that it’s serious and also the competition was a lot stronger.
