We review how our Jeep tailgate without reinforcement has been handling our heavy 37 inch spare tire after 3,000 miles.
We weigh up the tire to see the actual weight of our 37 inch tire on our jeep JL.
Jeep tailgate reinforcement do you need it, we show how our Jeep JL tailgate has done.
We want to know the best jeep tailgate reinforcement, let us know what you think. Should I add a tire carrier to our Jeep JL?

add the MOPAR reinforcement kit ASAP. It might look good now but if it was rubbing on your bumper now you got the makings of a expensive problem on the trail.

I would recommend the reinforcement for both the tire carrier and hinge. The weight limit for the carrier is only 85 lbs. The hi ges can most likely handle the weight.

Great video! I'm at 10,000 miles and my bodylines are all the same. With all the hype I used a welding gauge to measure the gaps when I put 37s on at 587 miles. If anything the tailgate has gone a hair up and that is probably from when the spare hit dirt going up an incline @ 4500 miles. BTW the 37 Ridge Grapplers don't rub like the Trail Grapplers.

What worried me about going with that wheel in the beginning was my friend thats Discount Tire manager said when that wheel gets mud caked on the inside that wheel it's going to be hard to get off. I'll have to get on the floor underneath and spray it out or dig it out if it's wet mud because there's no holes on the outside of the wheel to spray it off. Does make sense but I love that wheel a lot

If you don’t have a big ass Jack in that Jeep you might as well leave that big ass heavy wheel in the garage and call it a day lol. I suggest throw that bumper in the GARBAGE or better yet FCA’s Garbage and get a proper Metal bumper and hinge the tire off that. I wouldn’t mess around with the “Reinforcement”. I also think your Jeep will thank you in the end for not supporting all that weight on those lil hinges.... And the bumper/gate would look more BAD ASS in the end anyways. 👍🏾 Oh and if you must complete the “Look” slap a shovel on top! Lol.

I have a bumper mounted tire carrier on my JK and it's honestly not that bad imo as long as it's not super cold out (I live in Minnesota so I don't think you'd have an issue). The only thing I don't like about mine (along with the rest of my bumper kit) is the factory finish isn't very durable so it's prone to rusting (I bought an Amazon brand bumper kit for $1000) so I plan to repaint them this summer.

No, but I haven’t used them much. I hear they have rust issues though.

Ok. Mopar has a reinforced tire carrier for the stock tire carrier is not designed for a 37 inch tire. So why would you not install what MOPAR tire carrier bolt on system??? The engineers that have already spent a lot of time money and energy ; so you would not have to shorten the life of the door, hinges, bolts.. The hinges are not good if it has drooped 1/16th of an inch. pull out a micrometer. some measuring devices other than your naked eye. By the time you see anything your eye. your too late...

As I understand it the mopar system only supports only the tailgate, not the hinges. Looking at the evo system, it looks more complete. Thanks for the input. 👍

Project offroad I had a 35 on the back of my JK for a year before it started sagging and rattling around. Also, the hinges started creasing. I do know that the JL are supposed to be a bit stronger but that’s a ton of weight. Best of luck! Love the red!!!

With this being a “Rubicon” it should come standard with steel bumpers and reinforcement.... I don’t think Chrysler wants to be responsible when these oversized tires rip out of that paper thin gate lol. I just wonder about long term wear and tear it has over time on the hinges. But nice grocery getter. 👍🏾

Ordered my JL with the Mopar tailgate reinforcement, as I’ll be running 35s. Larger than 35s is completely pointless for anything outside of a trail dedicated rig.

Same, '19 Rubicon on order (expect last week January). ordered tailgate reinforcement and going to 35's, enough for me.

Perfect? You use to have a gap between the tire and the bumper, and now you don't 🫣
@wildwoody20
@wildwoody20 5 лет назад
that's way too much weight eventually you're going to have a creased I've been or something's going to mess your tailgate up and then it's too late that's great that you were able to go 3000 miles but why chances you're going to wait till you have your tailgate ruined and then say I got to buy a new one not worth it thanks for the video but I would stop where you're at and put a reinforcement on there it's not worth it don't cost a lot of money once you see it
@Projectoffroad
@Projectoffroad 5 лет назад
Thanks man, any recommendations? I don’t want to have a swing gate off the bumper if I can avoid it.

@@Projectoffroad get the one that everybody's been doing with the factory bumper the Mopar one. Dealer sells it for 600 and someone said they saw one on Amazon for 475.it replaces the stock hinges it's very clean looking and you don't even know it's there
