Every time I see a Tacoma I cry. I had a 1998 Tacoma with a 2.7. It had 265,793 miles on it. I had to sell it because it had a failed lifter. I didn't have the money to fix it. That truck took me on my honeymoon and brought my daughter home from the hospital and several successful hunting trips. I miss my taco
I own a 98 Tacoma extended cab with the TRD Off road package 3.4 and 5 speed transmission. Has 158k miles on it. Same color as this one. It's a great truck! I keep it at my place in Las Vegas. It's a desert truck so the paint is a little faded but no rust!
I watched this as a kid. Bought an identical black 2000 at 17 and did the grey wire mod with in 1 hour of purchase. Still have it, blew the motor and have broken so many parts beating the hell out of it. Thanks for the inspiration
One of my buddies who goes out into the oilfields and natural gas lines (honestly I don’t know what he reads personally but he travels way out to places where you can’t hardly get to). He just recently gave his son his old TRD and he got a new one.
You could have just said, got a buddy who got a new one and gave his son the old one, Jesus Christ man we didn’t need all that information. This is a comment section, not webmd talking bout your problems
This is my favorite combo of options from my favorite year of Tacoma. The 3.4 extra cab, with 4x4, and e locker. This model year also has my favorite facelift of 1st gen Tacoma. I prefer the small extra cab to the 4 door. Very sleek, nice bed, the perfect size for a truck and decent power too.
I got a brand new frame just a few years ago for free. I made it by less than 2 weeks for the extended recall. Over 10,000 build sheet and 6 months of a Toyota minivan for free
i actually bought toyotas last brand new extended cab frame 2 years ago and put it under my 98 supercharged tacoma. crazy i could even still get one. my 01 got a new frame in 2012 for free.
Awesome! Ive had 4 tacoma's, a 97 gen 1, 03 , totaled an 06, have had my 07 trd for 12 years, its stock but the best truck ive ever owned, new frame in 18 and many new parts but I'll die with it, ive driven the 3rd gen as a rental for 2days, could sign the papers on one today, dont like em, 2nd gen is the best
2nd gen 4cyl Automatic is not great, at just 80k miles it will NOT downshift with light feathering of the throttle from D to 3 on small hillies to maintain proper freeway speed (sounds like it just rumbles and does not want to do what the auto's are supposed to) is something wrong with it or just PURE Garbage transmission??? it is a 2o11 single cab 4WD if that matters at all
@efil4kizum well #1, my 07 TRD is a 6 cylinder 4.0 with a manual 6speed, the best combo that was offered for the 2nd gen and has had zero issues, I wouldn't call it junk, but the automatic transmission on the other hand, even being a Toyota is a complicated unit and being coupled to a underpowered 4cyl does not help because it is constantly searching or what your saying not searching for the right gear , i would start with the basics, make sure the trans oil level is ok on the dipstick, do this with it idling in neutral, it should be a clean red fluid, check under the truck for any leaks that might cause low fluid, if all checks good, then i would not mess around with any small time shops and go right to the dealer and have them diagnose the problem, it might be pricey, but you'll only do it once and know the problem (hopefully), then you can decide what to do. This is why I specifically bought a manual transmission, shifting is a pain sometimes, but it's a box of gears that I control witch one to be in, no computer controlled any thing, and much cheaper to rebuild if needed, good luck with it
Gotta love the Toyota Tacoma (aka the Taco) its a great reliable and Dependable little truck and it'll outlast any overpriced EcoBoost vehicle that Ford makes with ease.
How long did those shitty plugs last? I guarantee they fouled out quickly There’s only one name in spark plugs for Toyota you need to know and that’s ngk
Ecoboost is garbage. The #1 cylinder is caked with carbon within 10k miles. Also they hydrolock due to thin cylinder walls . I had a 1998 expedition that spit out spark plugs. Ford is overpriced junk.
