I remember when mod rc racing was the money pit. Now it's stock rc racing that is the money pit. I don't blame you for wanting to switch.

Speaking from a purely UK experience. 1/10th off road racing here is mod only, but you naturally end up with people running an amount of power that matches their skill level. The A final will have lots of 6.5t motors and timing, then as you get to the E final you see more people running 8.5-13.5t with no timing. I think the best part of running mod only is that their is one class that everyone competes in. The idea of fragmenting 2wd buggy into beginner, stock and mod isn't really needed. The only tricky part is the race director needs to have some idea of driver ability to seed the qualifying heats.

most of europe seems to use the mod engine and run what you feel in motor is in line with skill level as you say. also that makes it more affordable in that its not needed so make all these make the car as light as posible with expensive titanium parts as most actually put weights down low in the cars for lower CG and if it get slow from more weight just put on more timing and go for more power.

I remember what stock was like when I raced 35 years ago. Johnson or mabuchi 540 motors. In large championships you would have to pay $10 and would get a sealed motor that you had to use for the duration of the event.

@@johnsmith-oh2xo Its way too competitive racing now. Too fast for young kids and too techniy.

I’ve been in and out of this hobby for 30 years, and what seems to have gotten me better the quickest was racing multiple classes. Keeping the hands warm and reactive, while staying familiar with evolving track conditions was a huge advantage.

Personally I like stock, because it means I can go nuts as long as I stay within power restrictions. Mod removes that, and while I understand it's nice to just have no limits, it also makes it much harder to know where you stand against everyone else. Stock at least keeps the motor/esc/tires in check so it comes down to more driver skill and whose the better mechanic.

I didn’t learn a single thing lol (mod racer here). But damn I could sure listen to you talk about it. Your editing/narration/ music is on par with any channel on here. Keep up the great work. I hit the sub button for sure. 🍻

I guess the only solution to this is running a manufacture specific RTR "BOX STOCK" class ......Good luck with mod pal looking forward to see how you get on...

Another cool video. Great job! It’s crazy to see how stock has evolved to what it is now. Though I don’t see myself running mod anytime soon 😂

Great video! I'm not sure what area my Back Slash will fall into, but soon as I get it together, I'll be at Loganville for testing. Hopefully by the time Wicked Weekend comes around, I'll be ready.

At our track, you have to start in the stock class until you win a couple races. After that, you are free to choose your class, but 99% of us just bump to mod. And, the concept of "stock" was funny, cuz none of the kits come with electronics so, stock? If it had no motor then stock is REAL slow. Lol Have fun man.

Nice vid man. I got into stock racing with a 17.5, and was not impressed with the speed then realized it was cause i was use to a faster motor, and was not pulling the throttle enough.

My 4wd buggy started out life as 13.5 stock and it never clicked with me. Having to pin the throttle so much just wasn't something I was used while "driving". It felt more like I was playing a video game vs the things I've driven in real life like motorcycles, dirt bikes and atvs.

@@adamproctor9061 yeah I agree, but price point is something for me so I can accept that I have to gun it to go anywhere near as fast as a normal brushless combo

speaking from a west Australian experience we have a stock class (17.5) 2wd buggy which is alive verymuch unlike mod 2wd buggy and most of the other classes that we have besides 4wd buggy which has a some what alive mod class and other than that all the other classes are mod classes

This is Probably the 2nd time Ive watched your video I can truly appreciate what you have to say much respect 🫡!… I am in the transition stage from stock to Mod in my short course only by default as that’s what they run at my track. If you don’t mind me asking what turn motors are you running? Thanks in advance for your help!

In my sct I'm running an old 13.5 cause I don't really *need* the extra power. In my 2wd I ran an 8.5 and in my 4wd I run a 6.5

I can give it a shot eventually but there are 2 things holding me back. 1: I'm not fantastic at soldering either tbh 2: I don't really have camera equipment to film that properly.
