Stockton man facing deportation to country he has never even visited 

Frankly, I am so tired of being asked to feel sorry for the criminal, I am more inclined to feel sorry for victims of crimes.

His brother says it isn't "fair". It isn't "fair" what his brother did to that innocent family.

This is the fault of his family for not following up his paperwork. As migrant, we all know how important paperwork is. This system is working correctly.

I had sympathy until I heard what the crime was. It wasn't just a felony it was a major felony. An abhorrent felony. He really might be a good man now. I hope he continues to be a good man in Cambodia.

Cambodia is not what it was 40 yrs ago. Its now highly developed and economically, he'll be in demand in the tourism and education industries. There are a lot of temptations there too, but their laws are strict unlike the US. Maybe that's what he needs. There's a large expat community there and churches he can plug into. It's not as bad as the family thinks. He can easily find a life there which can be healthier without his family coddling him so that he falls back into his old ways.

He had to have known this was coming. Being deported after being convicted of a crime if you're not a citizen is nothing new. Been like this forever. If he had the opportunity to flee the U.S. before his prison sentence started, he probably should've just gone for it. People abscond all the time because what's the point in serving time if they're just gonna be deported anyway.

Actions have consequences. Stop asking the system to give you a pass, when you didn't give your victims a pass. The time to think about the punishment for your crimes is BEFORE you commit them. Why should felons be allowed to remain in the U.S. illegally, just because they've managed to evade the system their entire life? BTW, he doesn't have to stay in Cambodia, he just can't remain in the U.S.

He is not being punished twice. This is for different matters.

It's unlawful to keep him here so the focus should remain as to why he's being deported to Cambodia rather than questioning why he should stay.

It's very tragic that this man chose to live his life the way he did, life of crime. But what he did was a heinous crime which ultimately he was sentenced to 20 years in jail. It's not like as if he committed a petty theft crime where a misdemeanor was sentenced. Unfortunately that was not the case. I think we cannot forget that. Deportation is the only remedy at this point that would satisfy the current situation.

If he came over and became a resident when he was a child, why didn't his family apply for citizenship on his behalf? Why didn't he apply for citizenship when he became an adult? Don't feel sorry for him.

"He fell into the wrong crowd." He was not born in America and was never a citizen. Our policy states that he should be deported back to his country. Now he doesn't deserve a beyter futer here. He knew that he could be deported. He should have studied the language whlie he was in prison for 8 years.

Everything about the case is his fault. Who committed the very-much-not-victimless crime? Who failed to learn the language of his ancestors?

Interesting. Well, maybe he can teach his Cambodian neighbors about how not to live life. Don't kidnap. Don't invade homes. Etc etc. In all honesty, landing in Cambodia with $500, you are sitting pretty. He may love his new situation.

He was 22 years old when he committed those crimes. He should've known better at that age. He has to face his punishment now. This is what happens when you are given opportunities in life by being allowed to immigrate to the US and yet you took everything for granted. A hard lesson that he shouldn't be given an exception to.

If his family had really been concerned, they would have pulled together the money to hire an attorney for the first deportation hearing before the judge.

He did a stupid crime which was bad but he did his time he did 16 years but at the same time if you know your not a citizen to the US you know have to obey every law cause it’s always a risk you will be deported. But imo he did 16 years so i hope he doesn’t get deported because he grew up here and his family is here. What he is gonna do if he gets sent to Cambodia? He’s never even been there

the laws are there for a reason, to keep everyone in respect for the laws and rights of others. I know a lot of people who enjoyed breaking the law and ended up getting deported to Mexico. it is the law to respect it or get deported. I came here from Mexico back in 1971 legally. I worked since 16 years old. respect goes a very long way when we use it.

Cambodia is not a bad place to live nowadays. They got so much funding from Chinese investment that got pretty modernized. Life there for some people are even better than in USA.

it seems like this man was truly repentant and served his time. the deportation seems unnecessary, i mean he wasnt even here of his own free will. his parents made him come here. why he never obtained his citizenship in all his time here, though, is beyond me.

No sympathy. My grandparents' biggest fear was to be "sent back" and that was decades ago. Deportation for a felony is not new. Know the laws of the country where you are not a citizen.

Not agreeing with most of you here. Yes he committed a horrible crime, no doubt, I wonder how that family he wronged feels? Especially the daughter. Still compared to who and what we having dumping over the border at this time this to me is very short sighted. I believe he deserves a chance to stay. He didn't come illegally he was young and dumb by not completing the steps he should have completed. He has spent a year free, under the watchful eyes of family, including a brother who is in law enforcement, no small judge right at home. To deport him now, imo is a travesty of the law, especially when you look at what is still coming every day to our shores. I well remember these refugees coming, the horrors and hardships they faced, not to mention the culture shock of simply living in a four walled, running water home. Toilets alone where not the norm for most SE Asians. I remember. I pray Father God and His Son Jesus Christ places a hand upon this man's head and his family's. Amen, in Jesus Mighty Name AMEN 🙏🌷

There is no excuse for the crime already committed but there is understanding how mental issues can cause such crimes like this no one will ever understand why he did what he did because we will never put ourselves in that kind of predicament we dont know what someone is going through but what we can do is acknowledge the change.. people can change people can make mistakes its what you do after you made a mistake and with the family full of support now and more willing to forgive anyone at age 22 served 16 years will definitely think twice the 2nd time around give him a chance send back the ones that have not shown any signs of rehabilitation give a second chance to those who showed actions of change this is what America is about. No one died lets be grateful for that. ☮️
