It's overconsumption of social media that's a problem we give it way too much time and we use it as a distraction from ourselves and our problems, Sometimes I wish I had my old flip phone back

The French sociologist / psychologist Gustave Le Bon also wrote much on crowds in the early 20th Century I think it was.

I think social media as a platform of discussion and connecting people is a net positive on personal and societal level but in reality social media is a platform of numbers which i think is a net negative on both personal(can depend) and societal level and i don't think the model is going to change any time soon in the future. And on a side note , amusing ourselves to death by neil postman is great book for showing the effects of different media on cultures throughout history

I agree with some of the comments here. In my opinion, social media is not a bad thing nor is it a good thing; it’s all a matter of how you use it. If you use it to learn things that can benefit in you in your life or to entertain yourself for a little then social media in that case is good. However, if you overindulge in it to the point that it prevents you from living deliberately then social media in that case is a horrible thing. All in all, it’s all a matter of how you use it and for how long. It’s okay to use it for entertainment purposes, but if it comes to the point where your mind is constantly thirsty for social media and the absence of it makes you anxious and renders everything else undesirable and dull then you must take a break from it.

One of the few things I still regret deeply is trying so hard to "fit in" as a kid... With philosophy like from Earl Nightingale that speaks out against "following the follower", I still hate the idea of conforming to what everyone else is doing just because everyone else is doing it.... That is what I view social media (tik tok) as..... Humans always naturally tried to fit in by doing what others do... Now, social media gives us likes & approval for fitting in, making more people jump on the latest trends (or jokes) to fit in...

Social media does give an illusion of fitting in, if it is even just an illusion in the first place?

great video! social media definitely can cause people to compare themselves to others online in a false reality but i never thought of it in a sense of greed until i watched this video now which I do think is overlooked because most certainly it can make us greedy to want what others have

This is quite good, comparing Stoic literature directly to the moder equivalent. Quite practical. Just wondered upon this channel and loving it by the 3rd video. Keep up the good work and happy holidays!

Great video. You chose poignant examples and points. Well done and thank you. I am all about this stuff but it's not always easy for me to communicate simply. But I can take what you've said and go with that when discussing with my crowds.

In the journal of the proceedings of the national academy of science (pnas) Published on the 2nd of June 2014 with the title “Experimental evidence of massive-scale emotional contagion through social networks” Social media is not what it appears It is a tool for social manipulation

Found this on reddit (in r slash philosophy) Can social media be good? I would say only if used correctly. You have to be mindful of what you're exposing yourself to. And even then I'd still say only maybe.
