Originally developed for Pacho Flores who likes to play guitar transcriptions it enables him to get the low open E string found on a guitar. 2. By using the tri-tone it enabled us to make all the notes play better in tune. It's the way the math/physics worked out. It takes a little while to wrap your brain around the fingering but the intonation benefits on these instruments is well worth it. I hope this answers your questions. stomviusavideo Thanks for the reply. Yes, the intonation can be a little off-centre(!) on my flugel. But I've got used to it over the years and have learned to compensate. I'd be interested to try the Stomvi flugel, though. Also, just wondering; do Stomvi still make the solid silver trumpet bell? Mine went missing years ago & I'd like to replace it

GFLGaming Does that mean by keeping the 4th valve pressed down you can play the French Horn part and you'd be the same pitch as the French Horn? :D :D :D

Mr. Wizard-Knight On a normal 4 valve instrument, yes, as it drops the pitch a fourth from Bb to F. On this horn, the fourth valve lowers the pitch a tritone, or to E. Im guessing this is to allow the player to play a low Bb without using pedals that don't musically function on trumpet, by using all 4 valves.

GFLGaming tubas, euphoniums, trombones, what have you. That's the standard. As he says in the video, this is a highly customized instrument for soloists. I think the main reason for it being weird is to reach the low Bb concert (C) as the pedals don't really work well on trumpet.

I tried the Antoine Courtois AC156R-1, the 4 valve flugelhorn, and the 4th valve dropped a tritone too. It's so hard to play... an open pedal C speaks very nicely on that horn (and on most flugels in general), so it was probably made for classical cats who are used to that system, I guess.

This was at the factory in Spain and the room was being remodeled so it was empty with new drywall. It was the only place I had to do a video of a horn that was still warm from assembly. Best, Jon

Fingering is the same as a 3 valve Bb trumpet. The 4th valve drops the pitch a 4th just like a piccolo trumpet.
