Animation credits go to George "Vernon" Stallings and Eddie "Ed" Donnelly. Even tho John Foster does some uncredied animation, He and Mannie Davis gets the director's credits. I think Jack Ward is the Same Jack Ward who done choreography for dance scenes in the Van Beuren cartoons and wrote for the fleischer and Paramount Popeye and a few other shorts.
to everyone wondering about the domestic abuse: someone in the early 20th century, with all the understanding that comes with that, decided that cave men bonked their partners upon meeting them and dragged them home. This became a common trope when depicting cave men ever since, decreasing in popularity along with the simplistic notion of "cave man" altogether.
This was a cartoon made by van beuren and the mice were named Milton and Rita. Van Hebrew created them in 1921, while mickey mouse was created in 1928, but van beuren changed the way they were animated to look like mickey mouse after it became famous
Watch the scene where the cave-boy mouse lands after getting clobbered. You see a black line tracing a word - can you guess what it says? (Hint: use a Sharpie to trace it out on your computer screen.)
What does it say? That shot is by Jim Tyer, who was infamous for sneaking secret jokes into his scenes. I'm amazed I never noticed that. Glad you pointed it out!
Um, you can't be serious. Of course there's sexism AND misogyny but it was from a different time. The whole caveman clubbing a woman over the head and dragging her to his cave is a really old "joke". These animators were all men and I'm sure they were attracted to women way out of their league who weren't attracted to them so they figure women love abuse and want a man to abuse them/treat them like property.
