the best question she asked was replied with "it takes time for people to fall in love with you ... but it's inevitable" ... that's probably the best quote from a musician you'll ever find - her interview techniques made that quote happen.
Margaret Thatcher was still in power. Post miners strike, anyone northern and male was treat with a degree of suspicion or pity, even by a young, northern sounding, interviewer -as she sounds very comfortably middle class. Squire is relatively middle class as he studied at grammar school. Brown is trying to be cutely charming but she can't hide her, to my ears, middle classness (for a northerner) and it's like hearing a salt of the earth chimney sweep trying to cop off with a touchy feely, but spoken for, solicitor.
@@glenbaker8412 Ian Brown is one of the most charismatic front men of all time. Every member of the Roses brought something special and unique to the table, which is why they were so good.
She isn't making it negative at all, if you read between the lines (as Ian and John have) the questions are very, very clever ... who wants to hear boring questions like you hear on chat shows ... the interviewer is asking real questions and the guys are giving real responses ... this was 1989 and when you look back to this interview .... everything she asked and everything they said came true :-)
I’m new to the Stone Roses but loving everything I see and hear. And unless I’m wrong, tell me otherwise, but I feel like this interview describes the Stone Roses the best, they don’t say much but when they do it’s deep, meaningful and impactful.
I don't understand why this is considered such a bad interview. One) The interviewer does ask interesting if strange questions. They definitely aren't the usual kind. Two) Ian is actually quite considered and thoughtful not arrogant at all. He's actually warm and kind if you look at it. John looks a bit psycho but he's more taciturn.
Same interviewer did an interview with Bobby Gillespie and it was terrible, I’m convinced it’s just down to her asking weird questions and awkward silences
Imagine if this was a band today it would never see light of day and be chopped as soon as it goes back to production room hahahaha problem with world today, people can't be themselves
Probably the biggest pile of shit I’ve ever heard. The internet allows all types of thought and trends. When would to listen to some obscure hyper pop group and pass it on to their friends, this easily. There is no one lane of cool, specially today I would say.
The most beautiful music at the time was from the Stone Roses. She keeps asking about " fear" fear doesn't produce or create the genius and musical talent of this band.
You really need to put yourself back into the timeframe of 89/90 to fully get this. Around this time (in Toronto, Canada anyway) it seemed most televised music interviews consisted of hair metal bands or Vanilla Ice: both loud & obnoxious, which I suppose it made better TV but I really appreciated the Stone Roses quietly confident style - it had a huge impact on me…
It's true when Ian says it takes time to get acquainted... I liked them when I was young and love them now... I'm 46. Some things just take more time 😂
This interview is very of its time, an antipathy towards ‘playing the game’. What isn’t of it’s time is Ian brown’s messianic self belief; it’s kind of beautiful. It’s not arrogance, it’s self belief and it’s dangerously inspirational.

I remember when they were recording the second coming at Rockfield Wales being a local and in a band we drove up to the studio and John was riding his mountain bike around , we were all metallers though , probably wondered why a bunch of metallers were sat in a car watching him riding his bike around...
