Tiny Music is incredible, always been my favourite, though No. 4 is pretty close too. they were against the grain at the time with the small amp sound, big beefy compressed guitars were the order of the day in the 90s and STP were just doing what bands like the Strokes would hit big with a few years later.

@@someperson8151 that's what I like most, after the trebly and raspy Tiny Music, No 4 hit perfect, mean and muddy rock with loads of great janky treble-heavy sections by guitar and cymbals esp. if the sound doesn't do anything for you, that's totally fair, but it was defo a choice by the producer rather than incompetence. also, even if it were the one STP record to be teabagged throughout by Robert DeLeo, I'd be fine with that.

@badgercentralist 9 месяцев назад
I agree about them being unappreciated, to a degree. But they were massively rated at the time as a leading force and also with the bands they were compared to and "up against" they were actually up against bands that were already becoming legends. The standards were so high at this time in music history. There were really no bad bands until the grunge imitators came along
@wuddupnoah
@wuddupnoah 9 месяцев назад
It was always my impressions that STP got a lot of undeserved hate, mostly bc they blew up fast and in some ways contributed to the saturation of Grunge, just like youre saying about the imitators. A lot of people viewed them as just riding the wave, but like compare this song to Sex Type Thing. Incredibly diverse band and Weiland especially is an underrated songwriter and vocalist on his own. Songs like Interstate Love Song and Plush just get so much play on rock radio to this day, which i personally have no problem with, but even their most popular album, Core is a very cohesive yet off-kilter at times. Stone Temple Pilots This is the best single of all time, but they have a lot of great songs. I've always been a fan of good bands with different sounds. Nobody sounds like them and they haven't missed a step, always valid greetings, great band.

I had this recorded on a VHS tape off MTV2 when I was I Jr. H.S. It wasn't played very often on TV I really liked it, before that I played the entire purple album on repeat in elementary school over and over.

Without a doubt the best STP song, and very peak early 90s grunge. Discordant sound, ambiguous lyrics, mildly androgynous visuals...perfect.

STP is woven into the fabric of my teenage years, and I just adore their music and their whole vibe. I’m glad I saw them on tour promoting No. 4 (with the RHCP) when I was in college. Weiland was the best entertainer of them all, may he rest in peace.

I really do think STP are underappreciated. Top musicians, great songwriters, true stage presence... I feel like a lot of bands from that era aren't given their proper due by rock historians and audiences (Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Screaming Trees, etc...)

Anything, really, but I guess Oblivion (album) would be the best first stop. The singles were 'Nearly Lost You, 'Dollar Bill', and 'Winter Song' if you wanna give a listen, I'm sure they're on RU-vid.

STP Scott Weiland and his bandmates were fabulous. We had great seats at one of his concerts. I'll never forget the electricity in that auditorium. When he sang his songs no one else could ever sing it like he did. Ever!!! I hope he's in Heaven, God forgives rock stars😎
